He woke up in the way one normally does; slowly and then all at once. He was therefore not immediately aware of how this morning was different than usual. That difference being the lump of warmth at his back, the gentle breathing that fluttered against his cheek, and the strong arm that wrapped around his waist and snaked up under his shirt to rest gently against his heart. It was upon realising these things that Sirius Black did finally fully wake up and it was one of those rare times that he was happier for it, as the events of the previous night came surging forward. Remus’ hands on him, his lips, hungry yet tender. More than anything, however, it was the eyes that got him. Beautiful hazel eyes that constantly danced with mischief, Sirius wondered how he had been oblivious to his feelings for so long. He smiled to himself, perfectly content to stay how he was, comfortable in bed with Remus wrapped around him, for the rest of eternity. In any case, it wasn’t to last.
“What are you grinning about?” Remus murmured in his ear, voice thick with sleep and Sirius’ heart skipped several beats.
“Didn’t know you were awake.”
“Mmm, that’s not an answer.” Sirius could practically hear the smirk in his voice. He sighed, rolling over to face him.
“If you must know, I was thinking off all the mind-blowing sex we had last night.” Unexpectedly, Remus’ smile did not falter for even a second. If anything, it stretched wider.
“What a coincidence. So was I.” and with that he pulled Sirius in for a kiss, which the latter regrettably attempted to dodge.
“Ugh, no don’t, I have morning breath” he said, attempting to squirm away, despite Remus’ superior strength.
“Don’t care” was the response, still attempting to capture Sirius’ lips with his own. By some miracle, Sirius managed to escape, which came with the realisation that he was still completely naked and, understandably, half hard. However, Sirius being Sirius had no qualms about standing nude in front of the other boy, relishing in the way Remus’ eyes raked down his body, finally seeming to be affected by something. With a cocky grin, he pulled on his underwear and started walking towards the bathroom.
“Brushing my teeth first, I will be right back.”
As he ducked down to the sink to spit out the toothpaste, he heard the door behind him open and close. When he looked up in the mirror Remus was behind him placing his chin on his shoulder and snaking his arms around his waist once more. They smiled at each other in the mirror and Sirius took the time to admire his gorgeously tousled bedhead. The peace was quickly shattered as Remus bent down grabbing Sirius behind the knees and picked him up bridal style, ignoring his loud protests.
“Come on, back to bed. I’m sick of waiting” and Sirius couldn’t help bursting into laughter as he was tossed back against the pillows, Remus climbing in behind him, resuming their position from earlier. “Much better” he stated, with a sigh of contentment. “Let’s just stay like this today”.
There could not have been a valid enough reason in the world to give Sirius cause to disagree. And so, they did stay like that, sometimes talking, sometimes kissing and sometimes dozing off to sleep. Sirius could not remember a time he had been so perfectly content.
He realised he was falling in love the way one normally does; slowly and then all at once.
