"What’s the special occasion?" Miles tilts his head.
"Do I need a special occasion to want to treat you nicely and take you out on a date?" Phoenix teases, grabbing at Miles’ hand across the table. The restaurant is bustling with activity, but at their table, it feels like the world’s muted like it’s just the two of them.
"I guess not, but…" Miles clicks his tongue. "It just feels like there is."
Phoenix moves his head side to side, amused. "Well, I guess there is one."
Miles raises an eyebrow.
"It’s an anniversary."
"It is not."
"It is!" Phoenix raises his voice, then quiets down. "It really is."
"The anniversary of our dating is in a few months, Phoenix."
Phoenix shakes his head. "Anniversaries aren’t just for dating, silly."
"Then what’s it for?"
"It’s for the day I met you back in third grade!" Phoenix says with a smile on his face, absolutely serious.
"You remember that?"
"Of course!" Phoenix shoots him a wide grin. "It's the most important day of my life!"
Miles' face turns red all of a sudden, without warning. He hides his face in his hands. It's almost embarrassing, but there's nothing he can do about it now, the way his face feels warm.
"Come on, don't hide your face," Phoenix teases. "You're cute when you're embarrassed."
Miles groans. "You're the worst, sometimes."
"I love you, too."
Even though Phoenix is sitting across from him and clearly finding enjoyment in his suffering... well...
"I love you as well." Miles looks away. "Even though you're like this."
