Crickets chirped in their ears as the world settled around what was only between the two of them.
Wars, death, happiness, birth… It was funny how so many things could be going on around the planet. But for the couple who sat together, soaking up each other’s presence like it was everlasting… what seemed to be the most important was right there.
Huddled close together as if it wasn’t hot and humid out beyond belief, the fact that their skin stuck together didn’t seem to bother either parties. Breathing in the freshest air they’d breathed in what felt like years, it seemed so strange to see the stars above them. So used to the skyscrapers and glow that took up the sky back in Tokyo.
What a time to be alive.
To be with each other, without any distractions, without a cause and effect…
They were just sitting on a blanket in an open field full of overgrown crops. Farmland long forgotten about by its owner, and a perfect place to overlook a beautiful beach. The sunlight dipping beyond the horizon, and the clouds parting to paint a beautiful array of colors before them.
If there was one thing Ryuji was certain of, it was how undeniably in love he was with his boyfriend.
It was a spontaneous trip to a small vacation spot a few hours away from Tokyo. Booking it all days ago, and deciding to get away from the city that never stopped moving.
It happened so fast.
And now here they were.
Like they hadn’t had a hell of a journey in life to find themselves where they currently were… it felt as if everything else leading up to the moment they shared now, was small in comparison.
“The fireworks will be starting soon,” Akira said, momentarily interrupting their shared silence.
Nodding, and adjusting his head to lay more comfortably on his lover, Ryuji wondered if this is what peace truly felt like, “Mmm, I can’t wait. I love fireworks.”
The best part about watching them now, is that he could kiss the man he wanted to spend the rest of his life with while they went off. Wondering just how nice the colors would look on his pale skin, and hoping it lived up to his expectations.
“We’ve got the best seat in the house.” Akira commented, fiddling with his own hair like he had since the very moment Ryuji met him.
“Maybe we should make this a tradition,” Ryuji smiled, watching what looked like little specks of people walking along the shore. Going about their lives without a single clue that a couple was up in the hills, “I really like this place.”
Agreeing, and lowering his hand from his hair to grab Ryuji’s hand, it was impossible to not sense the infatuation shared between the two, “Whatever you want, I’ll do.”
There was a beat of silence before the other turned to look at the blond.
“I would do anything for you if you asked.” He grinned, leaning in for a kiss.
How absolutely was it to be this deeply in love with someone?
Letting their lips meet in the middle, and savoring every last bit of connection they had… somehow it never failed to make Ryuji feel light inside. Like all his energy was focused to their mouths, it was so easy to get lost.
Especially when the guy you love has such wonderful hair you can intertwine your fingers into. Missing every single thing happening outside their little bubble, and letting the power of affection take over like it was nothing.
Breaking away just in time for a burst of light to go off in front of them, it seemed like the fireworks were started by an act of intimacy.
“I love you a lot, Akira.” He thought to say, loud enough to be heard over the sounds of fireworks.
As green flashed on his face, and the bombs sizzled into other colors beyond them… Ryuji’s hopes and dreams were realized.
He looked magnificent in the hues of all the fireworks.
Holding Ryuji tight with a squeeze, they both faced the show. Akira taking a moment in between two bursts to whisper something into his boyfriend's ear, “I love you more than anything, Ryuji.”
Feeling his heart warm at that sentence, all the mushy gushy stuff had been pushed aside to immerse their attention in the pretty colors displayed in the sky. Appreciating the company, and letting every single vibe blend together to create harmony in his mind.
After all the danger they’d gone through together, hand in hand as they risked themselves and others… nothing could have ever felt more right than what was happening right here and now.
They lived through everything in life.
To get to this moment.
