“Open your mouth.”
Rex blinked at Saw’s grinning face then to the yellow fruit between his index finger and thumb, the golden liquid running over his thumb. Rex wanted to lick the liquid off his thumb, wondering what it tasted like against his soft, scarred skin. Wondered if Saw would let him lick the golden goo off his long fingers, smirking at him as he did. He was blushing hard, he noted with fear.
They weren’t in the safety of his or Saw’s tent, they were in the main camp, near the shooting range and the stand in for a mess hall.
“Don’t worry,” Saw reassured with that easy grin, bringing the fruit closer to his lips. “It’s good and I think you’ll like ‘em.”
He opened his mouth with a raised eyebrow, sticking out his tongue a bit as Saw placed a small, green fruit on his tongue. He brought the fruit into his mouth, chewing on the soft, sweet fruit. He felt himself melt at the delectable fruit’s flavor, a soft moan leaving his lips. “Good right, Rexy?”
“Mhm, what is it?” He asked, leaning closer and looking at the cloth that was in his right hand, green, yellow, and purple fruits cut into tiny slices.
“Uh, just some fruits from trees we found 7 months ago,” Saw explained, clearly not the entire truth, as placed another fruit in his waiting mouth, smiling at his clear joy. “They’re not poisonous and we’ve been eatin’ them ever since.”
“I like how you draw your words out, Saw, it’s different from anything I’ve heard.” Rex admitted as Saw wiped some of the yellow fruit juice off his chin, giving him the eyebrow now.
“So my drawl is hot, huh? So you like when I’m talkin’ like this?” He teased, placing a fruit from the cloth bag and placing into his own mouth, a tart purple fruit with a lot of seeds, chewing it with a smirk. “You have an accent too, ya’know?”
“I know, Saw’ika,” He huffed, plucking another green fruit from the cloth. “I’ve just heard my voice and accent my whole life so hearing yours is an... experience.”
Saw’s teasing expression dimmed, his face tightening as he pressed another sweet yellow fruit to his lips. “Rex, I-”
“Boys!” Steela greeted with a wide grin, her eyes gleaming with fondness. “Enjoying my older brother’s marriage proposal, Rex?”
Saw face went dark with blush, turning his blue gaze to his sister’s own.
They were just eating together . He thought in confusion, looking at Saw’s flushed face then Steela’s teasing expression. Nothing like that.
“I just got him some fruit, Steela, that’s it .” Saw hissed, and handed him another fruit to his mouth. He took the fruit quickly, chewing the soft, purple fruit.
“Oh, yeah? Then why did you make Marriage Fruits? And hand fed him? Hm ?” She prodded, turning her teasing gaze to him. What the kriff was “Marriage Fruits”? And why had she picked up on his lover hand-feeding him? Some kind of cultural difference, most likely.
“Shut it, Steela.” He growled, handing him the cloth bag to just eat from. He took it with a confused noise as Saw returned his stare to his little sister.
“Should I call Rex now “Rex Gerrera ” or “Captain Gerrera”? Can I come to the wedding?” She continued to tease. Saw just clenched his fists on his thighs, clearly ready to run her off from their mid day meal break.
“Uh, if I may ask, what is a karking ‘Marriage Fruit’ and why is it a big deal?” He asked, closing up the cloth and placing next to him and Saw on their rock. The two onderonians in front of him finally realized he didn’t understand what they were even talking about.
“Marriage Fruits are part of a onderonian proposal and weddings. The newlyweds usually fed each other honey covered fruit, and they’re expected to share their love with the guests.” Steela explained, her grin widening.
“And?” He asked with a tilt of his head.
“And usually end up with lots of kinky sex between the partners.” Saw said flatly, rubbing his clean hand over his face with a groan.
“I thought onderonian culture didn’t revolve around sex.” Rex noted.
“It usually doesn’t,” Saw admitted with another groan. “But onderonian marriage traditions? Lots. Of. Sex.”
“Yeah, once Saw and I were invited to one of Saw’s old friend’s weddings, it ended up with her and her wife nearly have sex in front of their both families.” Steela sighed fondly, as if that memory brought back something emotional.
“I also hooked up with her half-brother, Antonio Donia-Wai, during the reception in a dark refresher. Yeah, that wedding was pretty normal.” Saw said nonchalantly, leaning back to look up past the tree’s leaves and into the blue sky.
“Oh.” Rex said flatly, face going slightly red as Steela said her goodbyes as she walked off. They were now laying back on the rock, sun warming his dark clothes and Saw’s tunic. “Would you marry me?”
“Rex, we just started dating two weeks ago. I ain’t ready for that kind of commitment but,” Saw admitted, closing his eyes against the sky.
“But you would if we date for a bit longer?” Rex finished for him, not a question but more like a statement. Saw just opened an eye, giving him an up and down then a simple half-committed nod.
“Maybe. I’m still thinkin’ about it.” Saw sighed, taking a soft intake of breath.
