For You, I Fight

Summary:

A quiet afternoon in the satosugu household

Work Text:

Rain splashed against the windows and Satoru danced with his husband in their too small kitchen. He spun Suguru around in a tight circle, leaning him backwards. He pressed a kiss to the hollow of Suguru’s throat as he leaned in close. Suguru’s laugh vibrated against his lips.

“I just put Hanako and Mimiko down for their nap. Can you please not kiss me like that when our other two children are very much awake in the next room?” His eyes danced with laughter.

“Dance with me and pretend the world doesn’t exist,” he pleaded. How could Suguru say no to that?

They waltzed around the kitchen, the only sounds coming from the TV, muted all the way from the other side of the wall, their synchronized breathing and the symphony of the rain as it pounded against the windows. Satoru couldn’t remember ever feeling happier. This was what he fought for.

They danced for a few minutes more before Megumi came padding into the kitchen. His hair was mussed and that spark of annoyance already lit in his eyes. “Why are you guys only gross when I’m watching?”

Suguru laughed, pulling away to sweep Megumi up into his arms. He swung him around, unadulterated joy taking over his face. “Little Megumi! What can I do for you?” Satoru stared at them, fondness choking him up. This was his family.

Tsumiki came into the kitchen when she heard Megumi’s peals of laughter. She went straight to Satoru, clutching at the leg of his pants. She stared up at him with those big wide eyes. He smiled at her. She gave him a shy smile in return. Her voice was soft when she spoke, “I want to play too.”

He cocked his head, reaching down to run his fingers through her hair. She needed a haircut soon. “You wanna play too? What do you wanna play, ‘miki?”

She continued to stare at him with those wide, kind eyes. As Megumi’s older sister, she had shouldered a lot of the burden before they were adopted. She didn’t smile as easily as the others, but was the first to comfort anyone who was upset. She kept the peace and it made his heart ache that she ever felt like that was required of her.

He tried to get her to let go and just enjoy their life but Toji Fushiguro’s shadow had yet to fade from her life.

She squeezed his leg tighter where she clung to him. “Please, I wanna play like Megumi and Suguru.” He nodded once, sweeping her up into his arms. He tossed her up, catching her and cradling her gently. Her soft laugh was music to his ears. He wanted her to be this happy every day.

“Is it fun to fly up there, ‘miki?” He tossed her again, a grin breaking across his face when her giggle became louder.

She reached for him and he pulled her in close. Her tiny hands cupped his cheeks. “It’s fun, Satoru! I want to always be like this with you!” He smiled and wondered if she’d feel the same when she hit adolescence. His Tsumiki. His little bit of peace in all the chaos of life. He turned his head to kiss each of her palms. He nibbled on her fingers and she laughed and pushed his face away.

She squirmed and he set her down but she sank right back down to clutch at his pant leg. She liked to be quietly included in little ways like this. Direct attention made her nervous, but she was always clutching at him or Suguru in discreet ways.

When he looked back to Suguru, both he and Megumi were grinning deviously at him. Tsumiki giggled as he widened his stance and put his arms out.

Suguru walked over to him, sliding his arms around Satoru’s neck. He could feel a blush burn across his cheeks but he didn’t look away from Suguru’s deep purple eyes. Megumi climbed down from where he had been hanging on to Suguru and attached himself to Satoru’s other pant leg. “I’m hungry, Satoru.” Tsumiki murmured her agreement.

Suguru tightened his arms around Satoru, not willing to let him go just yet.

Satoru sighs as his eyes are inevitably drawn back to Suguru’s face. Suguru has a quiet but fierce beauty about him. Satoru had seen him splattered with blood and still thought he was the most beautiful being to ever have existed. He had held Suguru when he cried, when those days came where the weight of what they did, what they were got to be too much for him to carry. He was beautiful even then. Suguru was beautiful in his sleep, when he wasn’t trying, all the time. Satoru didn’t know if he or his Six Eyes would ever get enough of Suguru Getou.

Suguru’s deep indigo eyes stared back at him just as intently. Satoru felt stripped bare in the best way. It was as if Suguru looked at him and saw all the way to his soul. It was as if Suguru loved it all, even the ugly wretched horrible parts of Satoru Gojo that he didn’t show to anyone else. Suguru loved it all. He seemingly loved Satoru effortlessly. Loving Suguru was like breathing. He didn’t even need to think about it.

Suguru gave him a smirk and it made Satoru’s heart race. “I believe we should feed our starving children, Satoru.”

Satoru squinted down at Megumi and Tsumiki. “You mean they aren’t old enough to hunt for their own food?” Tsumiki giggled and Megumi huffed, already annoyed. He grinned at them. Suguru pressed a kiss to his cheek and nuzzled into his neck.

“I’m hungry too, Satoru. If I wake up the girls right now, can we all order dinner?” He looked back to his husband. Even he was in on Megumi’s scheme! He pressed a hand to his chest in feigned hurt. Suguru’s eyes lit up, twinkling mischievously. He ran his fingers through Satoru’s hair, his eyes never leaving the other’s face.

Satoru sighed. “If you’re all gonna team up on me like that, I don’t think we have any choice!” Suguru let out a soft chuckle. Satoru let the sound wash over him. How did his life ever come to this? How did Satoru Gojo ever deserve to be this happy? Suguru stepped away from him, swinging Tsumiki up into his arms.

“Let’s go wake up Hanako and Mimiko, princess.” Tsumiki’s eyes sparkled at the mention of the pet name he only used with her. She loved it. She soaked in all of Suguru’s attention as they left the kitchen. That left Megumi still attached to Satoru’s pant leg. It was quiet for a moment.

Megumi finally spoke up. “I want pizza, Satoru.” He stared down at the kid. Who knew children cost so much money? He ruffled the kid’s dark hair.

“I want a million dollar mansion out on the river. Since we’re naming things we want. Let’s go find Suguru and see what we can do about some pizza, eh?” Megumi beamed at him, shooting to his feet and skipping out the door. Satoru smiled after him. His family. He would never let anything or anyone take this away from him. No matter what he had to do to keep this, he would do it. He’d use his Six Eyes to keep his family safe. He plucked his sunglasses from the counter and headed out, following the sounds of laughter coming from the girls’ room.

He stopped at the threshold as he saw Suguru curled up in bed with all three girls. He was murmuring softly to them, asking what they wanted for dinner, promising Satoru would pay for the whole thing. He laughed and rolled his eyes. Still, he endeared Satoru. Still, Satoru’s eyes snagged on the small strip of skin along Suguru’s stomach that had been revealed when the man shifted around in bed.

He wanted to devour his husband. Curse their children for being so full of life and so nosy. They barely had any private time these days! Satoru needed a vacation just to properly worship his husband the way he deserved. He leaned against the doorframe. Suguru’s eyes were on him once again. “I heard you’re ordering us pizza.” Satoru laughed again and shook his head helplessly.

He pulled out his phone. “If it means I don’t have to leave the house, and I get to spend the night watching my family smile, I’m ordering the entire damn restaurant.”

Something sparked in Suguru’s eyes, and for a moment, it was just him and Suguru in the room. Even the kids faded into the background as they looked at each other. Suguru let Satoru see his heart. He let Satoru see how desperately he loved him. It filled Satoru’s heart to the brim. This was peace. He never needed anything more as long as he lived. For this, he would fight.
