Work Text:

It was a stupid idea. It was a stupid, dumb idea with a 99% chance of failure! Then again, Wukong has done things with much worse odds. So, let him tell you the problem: The ship didn’t have the best sleeping conditions, certainly. He supposes the original Journey To The West™ didn’t have a whole ton of 5-star hotels, but he’d been retired for like… ever! He wasn’t used to this yet!

So this brings us to where he was right now, looming over Pigsy like a demon. He surveyed the hog-man with interest, trying to find the best way to go about this. He couldn’t just lay on Pigsy, that wouldn’t work! Would that work?

Wukong paced around the cot, almost silent footfalls accompanying his whirring thoughts. He flopped down into a crisscrossed sit, letting out a hum as he thought of his options. He felt a little light blub of sorts go off when he realized that Pigsy was sleeping in the yearner position. Hell yes! He jumped across the bed to survey Pigsy’s arms' positions before deciding to just go for it.

He got onto the cot, holding his breath to make as little noise as possible. Comfortable sleeping here he comes! Wukong tried to lift Pigsy’s arm, to find it wasn’t budging in the slightest! Curse that Lady Bone Demon, seriously.

Wukong got down and started to wiggle his way in, kicking his legs as he squeezed into his new nap spot. His head popped out of the arm-trap, and he snickered. He’d done it! He kicked and pushed around until he could get comfortable, going still every time Pigsy groaned.

He sighed, nuzzling into Pigsy’s arm. The Monkey King had done it again, ladies and gentlemen! Beaten the odds, like a true champion. If Celestia could see him now! Or..maybe not actually, he was kind of in the air AND above the water. You can never trust those guys when you’re in the air or near the ocean, y’know?

Wukong was pulled out of his thoughts when the world tipped to the side. He panicked for a second, before realizing Pigsy was just rolling over onto his back. Wukong sighed, trying to adjust his position. He squeaked as he was quickly hugged tightly to Pigsy’s chest, unable to escape. He wiggled just a bit, before giving up the fight. A nap spot was a nap spot, and this sure as hell was a comfy one! He can deal with a tight hug or two if it means not sleeping on just a cot.

He rumbled contentedly and was met by a short snort. It was sort of a nice sound, all things considered. He’d heard worse, he was certain. He nuzzled up to Pigsy’s chin, exhaling and letting himself fall into a nice sleep.

Sandy was awoken by the squeal of an angry hog, and the Monkey King charging at him on all fours. He jumped up from his cot and looked around for what in the world could scare Sun Wukong. He found his answer as Pigsy practically materialized in the doorway, his face promising murder. Wukong scrambled behind Sandy, breathing heavily. Sandy peeked behind himself and picked up the little monkey by the scruff of his neck.

Pigsy cursed, realizing he couldn’t beat up the Monkey King if Sandy had him. Smart bastard!

“Sandy! Sandy, he's gonna kill me!” Wukong tried to wiggle out of Sandy’s large palm.

“If ya didn’t wanna die you shouldn’t have been in my bed!” Pigsy roared.

“Why don’t we talk this out over some tea?” Sandy tried, patting the cot. Pigsy sighed and walked over, plopping down onto the cot.

“Ok!” Sandy chirped, setting Wukong down next to Pigsy, “I’ll go make the tea!”

With that he was gone, leaving the two men to just sit in silenc-

“Why can’t you ever just ask for things nicely?” Well, not silence.

“Well, you were asleep! What was I supposed to do?” Wukong huffed at Pigsy.

“That’s not what I meant, Monkey Boy.” Pigsy snorted.

“Oh so now I’m Monkey Boy again?”

They fell into a banter, the tension in the room easing into a familiar warmness. Sandy came back into the room, holding the tea, and stopped upon seeing them talk. It was nice that his friends were getting along again. They’d been at each other's throats the whole journey, and it had just begun! He’d been so worried they’d be like that the whole trip.

“Hey, Sandy!” Pigsy called, “Monkey Boy here is trying to tell me that he wasn’t at fault for the Dragon Kings hating us!”

“It wasn’t! He could’ve just been nice! He offered me the staff!” Wukong hissed, his fur bristling at the memory.

“Who asks a guy for a piece of his HOUSE ?”

“Me, obviously!”

Sandy chuckled, coming over with the tea.

“If I remember correctly, you did threaten him, Wukong,” Sandy said fondly, handing them their tea.

“I said I would stay at his palace, that is not a threat!” Wukong protested.

“You being anywhere is a threat!” Pigsy barked out, snorting.

Sandy sighed, smiling. Maybe this journey wouldn’t be so bad.
