Chapter Text
1:00 a.m
Baji let out a loud groan as he turned over for what seemed like the 100th time to look at the clock. Even though it's late and his body is fatigued his mind couldn't rest so he in turn couldn't sleep.
'Why can't my damn mind just shut up for once?' He sighed accepting defeat and just sat upright. He combs his hand through his now messy black locks as he thinks of what to do now.
The last few nights have been rough for the boy. He had recently decided to put his plan in motion to infiltrate Valhalla, but what he needed to do in order for it to work..messed with him. Baji has never known what it was like to be alone. If he wasn't around his childhood friends he was always with Chifuyu. Is he really willing to hurt them just this once? Will they understand what he's doing is for Toman's sake? Regardless, Baji knows this is something he has to see through no matter how much it pains him.
Since sleeping seemed impossible, Baji decided to go get some fresh air. Then an even better idea popped in his head.
"Chifuyu! Maybe he's still up." Baji exclaims snatching his phone off the floor to text his friend.
1: 30 a.m Hey 'fuyu you up?
After impatiently waiting for a few minutes. Baji determined his blond friend was not awake. But instead of texting him, he decided he was going to surprise Chifuyu. Now with a devilish smirk, Baji threw on a long-sleeved shirt, jacket, and sweats before fumbling around in the darkness for his shoes.
"That bastard better actually be asleep and not ignoring me," He said before further opening his window that is usually for the cats and hops through it. It doesn't take him long to get to Chifuyu's floor and apartment. As many times as he's been over, he was easily able to find the window to Chifuyu's bedroom. Baji peered through the window and lo and behold was Chifuyu knocked the fuck out. Baji chuckled at the sight.
'God how is he so pretty even when sleeping..' Baji shakes his head then checks the window to see if it's locked or not. To his surprise, it's unlocked.
"Does this dumbass not care about his safety? Why the fuck did he leave his window unlocked!" he hisses quietly as he opens the window and slips into the room as quietly as possible. Once Baji is in he carefully makes his way to Chifuyu's bed and plops down on the floor next to it. The sight in front of him was worth more than a million dollars.
There was Chifuyu sleeping peacefully with his mess of blond hair covering his face, his expression relaxed and lips slightly parted. Baji looked longer than he liked to admit, but he couldn't help but admire just how cute his best friend looked. The thought made the blood rush to his cheeks and he quickly shook it off. He had come here to get the boy up not stare at him.
Baji reached up and gently shook the boy's shoulder.
"Hey Chifuyu, wake up!" The younger boy stirs and swats his hand away before turning over to his other side. Now this is just annoying. Baji places his hand on Chifuyu's shoulder this time shaking him roughly to the point the younger boy shoots straight up and screams out in terror.
"GET YOUR ASS UP DAMNIT!" Baji yells now fully irritated and quickly covered Chifuyu's mouth.
"And quit yelling! Do you want to wake up the whole building?" Chifuyus stops the yelling as soon as he sees who exactly woke him up. Angered, he slaps Baji's hand away from his mouth and glares at him.
"Baji?! Why the hell- wait a damn minute how the fuck did you get into my room?"
"Well, some careless idiot left his window unlocked! You're lucky it wasn't some random breaking in!" The two glared at each other for a few more seconds before Chifuyu lets out a tired sigh. He looked around until he spotted his phone beside his pillow, the bright numbers nearly send Chifuyu into another rage.
"Baji-san. It is almost 2 in the fucking morning. Why the hell are you even up?" Chifuyu feels his blood boil until he looks at the expression on Baji's face. Baji was normally good at covering up his emotions but Chifuyu could always tell what he was feeling by looking at his eyes. And right now his eyes looked tired and..pained. Chifuyu did notice for some time that bags were deepening under his friend's eyes, but didn't think that much of it until now. Chifuyu frowned and mentally cursed himself for not taking not noticing this sooner.
"Baji-san..."
"I know what you're about to ask. Hardly anything gets past you..but don't worry. I'll be fine." Baji says and musters up his usual toothy grin. Chifuyu wanted to press him some more but just nodded.
"Well you know you can call tell me anything, I'm always happy to help you Baji-san."
"I know but that's not why I'm here! Let's go for a bike ride real quick. I'll be waiting outside." Baji says dragging Chifuyu out of his bed. The older boy then scrambles up and out the same window he came through. Though annoyed Chifuyu quickly found a pair of sweats and a jacket to throw on, and slipped on a pair of sneakers before heading out the window himself. He sees Baji standing at the end of the corridor looking at something on his phone. When he notices Chifuyu has walked up to him he smiles down at him.
"Let's go to the park. There's something I want us to see. We can just ride my bike." Baji says quickly and starts dashing down the stairs. Chifuyu quickly runs after him trying to catch up, but Baji was taller and faster so he still was the last to make it down to Baji's bike. Baji was already sitting on it by the time Chifuyu made it down.
"Ha! Have you gotten slower 'fuyu?"
"Shut up! I'm barely awake right now because of you!" Chifuyu sighs and hops on the bike behind Baji.
"Well, this should definitely wake you up! Imma show you what this baby can really do so hold on tight." Baji says revving his bike to life. Before Chifuyu can protest the dangerous idea, the bike is already flying out of the parking lot and onto the street. Baji's speed picks up as they get on the main road forcing Chifuyu to wrap his arms around the boy's waist out of surprise and fear.
'Is he crazy?? There is no reason to be going this fast!' Chifuyu buries his head into Baji's back and holds on to him tighter. He can feel Baji's laughter vibrate throughout his body.
"I guess someone is scared of a little speed? Come on look up 'fuyu!" He practically yells over the sound of the motor and the breeze as they zip through the streets of Tokyo. Chifuyu finally lifts his head from Baji's back and marvels at the scene passing him. He's lived in Tokyo all his life and yet will never get over how beautiful it can be at night. It feels especially beautiful when he turns to look at the boy sitting in front of him. Baji's long tresses were blowing wildly in the wind and his face had a wild expression to match it. The excitement in his golden eyes could light up the entire city by itself. Chifuyu can feel his cheeks warm up, how could he be blessed with such a beautiful friend? Baji feels Chifuyu's eyes on him and glances back throwing an arrogant smirk.
"Like what you see?" He says chuckling at the boy's embarrassed expression. Chifuyu couldn't muster the strength to look at him again so he did the complete opposite. He unwrapped his arms from Baji's waist and threw his hands in the air.
"WOOOHOOOO!!" He yells into the night sky earning another hearty laugh from Baji before he joins him in the howling. Both of them laugh at themselves.
"Alright alright that was fun but hold on to me again. We don't want you falling off!" He throws Chifuyu another goofy grin before turning to the road again. In a normal situation, Chifuyu would've been more embarrassed about having his arms wrapped around Baji, holding him, and feeling his warmth. Nothing can top this feeling, of being alive, carefree, and with your favorite person.
Unfortunately, the ride was coming to an end as the park came into view. Baji parked the bike n a random spot and they hopped off. They walked through the park together in comfortable silence, both still feeling warm from the previous interaction. Baji breaks the silence first.
"Let's sit here in the grass and chill." He says before laying out on his back on the ground, Chifuyu follows swiftly after him. The two look up at the sky admiring the moon and the bright stars around it. Baji glances at Chifuyu and is completely enamored. The boy was in awe of the sight in front of him, his blue eyes dazzling in the moonlight. A small smile creeps onto his face. Chifuyu turns to face Baji with the brightest fucking smile he's seen.
"The moon is beautiful tonight isn't it?" Chifuyu says softly and it nearly makes Baji lose his cool demeanor.
"Yeah..it really is." He says quietly. He knows Chifuyu is talking about the moon but not even its beauty could compare to his. Suddenly Chifuyu sits upright and looks down at Baji with a troubled expression.
"Listen..I know you don't want me to ask, but why haven't you been sleeping at night? You're starting to look like shit." He says with a little laugh. Baji shoots up and flicks Chifuyu's forehead causing him to yelp in pain.
"That's what you get asshat. And honestly..." Baji looks up at the sky thinking about what to say next. Chifuyu doesn't need to know the burden he's carrying. Knowing that maniac will do anything in his power to stop him from going through with it. Probably even sacrifice himself. That's what he liked about Chifuyu though. He is so caring when it comes to Baji and has always been willing to be by his side. But as much as it pains him, this is something he has to do without Chifuyu. And even worse..he has to hurt him. Baji lets out a deep sigh.
"It's just been a lot on my mind recently. It'll be taken care of soon." He reaches down across to place his hand on Chifuyu's head and gently ruffles his hair.
"Like I said I'll be alright. Don't go worrying yourself to death about lil ole me okay?" Baji gives the younger boy a final reassuring smile before removing his hand.
"Ah..alright. I trust you Baji-san. Always." Chifuyu says turning away from embarrassment. Baji chuckles before moving closer causing their shoulders to touch.
"Hmm, I think it's about time you start calling me Keisuke don't you think? You're always so formal."
"Well Baji-san not like anyone else calls you by your first name." Chifuyu lets out a chuckle seeing Baji's surprised expression.
"Alright from now on when it's just the two of us we'll use our first name. Deal? " Baji reaches out a hand to him. Chifuyu shyly grabs it and shakes it still not able to look him in the eyes.
"Deal..Keisuke.." It was odd to be so casual, downright embarrassing even but the light pink blush forming on Baji's cheeks made it worth it. Baji coughs to clear the sudden silence and save himself from looking like a total idiot. He begins talking about something else. Mainly about the new cats that have started coming to his apartment. This is the Baji Chifuyu loved seeing. Him talking loudly about how proud he is about the cats warming up to him, his various descriptions from the animal books he read.
The pair talk for what seems like hours then Baji pulls out his phone to check something.
"AH okay, it's time 'fuyu look up." Chifuyu was confused but looked up at the sky and gasped.
Above them was a meteor shower. The several hundred, no thousands of asteroids passed them by in a beautiful array of light. It was something Chifuyu had never seen before, it was...stunning. They sat in awe together, shoulder to shoulder. For a moment, Baji's worries and pain melted away. It's all so small compared to the event above. Absentmindedly he scoots his hand closer to Chifuyu's until they touch. Neither of them moves them, but Chifuyu snaps out of his trance and finds Baji already looking at him. He couldn't read what was in Baji's eyes this time.
Baji reaches out his hand to cup Chifuyu's cheek. He moves in closer and closer until the two's noses are just barely touching. On instinct, Chifuyu closes his eyes but nothing comes, he feels Baji move away, but the raven-haired boy doesn't let go of his cheek. Baji gently rubs it, before finally removing his hand altogether leaving Chifuyu confused and honestly a little hurt.
Why did he stop?
Baji doesn't look him in the eyes and runs his hand through his long locks with clear frustration showing on his face.
'This isn't right..but damn it..' Chifuyu's hand grabbing onto the bottom of Baji's shirt snaps him out of the thought.
"Do it." He says looking up at Baji with those annoyingly bright eyes.
"But Chifuyu-"
"I-I want you to Kei!" Chifuyu shouts surprising the both of them. He retracts his hand from Baji's shirt quickly and moves away from him embarrassed.
"I'm sorry! I just-" The boy starts to ramble on an apology.
'Oh fuck this!' Baji reaches around and pulls Chifuyu up to him by his neck and crashes his lips onto his. Chifuyu freezes not knowing how to react but Baji putting an arm around his waist to bring him closer snaps him out of it. He leans into the kiss deepening it earning a satisfying groan from Baji. The kiss was only a few seconds but it felt longer. Baji is the first to move away wearing a gentle smile.
"Damn not too bad for a first kiss." He says before standing up. He reaches out a hand to a very red Chifuyu. Chifuyu takes it and they walk back to Baji's bike hand in hand and content.
By the time they reach the bike and get on Chifuyu is finally out of his daze enough to speak.
"Hey Baji-I mean Kei, is this really okay? Kissing and stuff?" He fidgets with his fingers a bit, too nervous for the answer. Baji glances back at him and places his hand on his thigh to give a reassuring squeeze.
"If it wasn't okay I wouldn't have done it. Besides, we'll always be together so..get used to it." Baji was taken aback by his own words and tried his best to cover his blush..and failed. Chifuyu bursts into laughter and pokes Baji's cheek.
"I could get use to this side of you!" Baji swats his hand away and turns on the bike before speeding off. Chifuyu quickly wraps his arms around him and lets out an irritated groan.
"I'll get you back for that 'fuyu, just wait till we get back to your place." Baji says eagerly sporting his wild grin. Despite the "threat" Chifuyu just chuckles and lays his head on Baji's back then notices the sky.
"Hey Kei look! The meteor shower is still going!"
"Huh oh yeah almost forgot about that. Nice view to end the night."
Chifuyu hums in agreement. They couldn't be happier. Nor luckier for this all to happen under the shower of light above them.
