A Very Good Life Lesson, Indeed

Summary:

In which Alya tries an experimental food, shared wisdom, and Nino just wants to play Piano Tiles in peace.

Notes:

So this is based on a real life conversation I had with my dad. It went like this:

Me: well that was terrible
My dad, glancing up from his phone for a brief moment, then looking back down: what?
Me: so yesterday—was it yesterday? yeah. what are days?— we (talking about my mom and I) went to the grocery store and got these ice cream things. basically, it’s the same concept as mochi but with cookie dough—
My dad: cookie dough?
Me: —edible cookie dough, of course. we tried it today and it was too sweet and not good. but it was only $3.99 so it’s fine.
My dad: *frowns as he looks at his phone*
Me: so the moral of the story is: get normal mochi. that’s a good life lesson.
My dad, not looking up from his phone: *nods seriously*

Anyway, enjoy this DJWifi crack piece!

Work Text:

Alya walked into their apartment, plopping down on the couch as soon as her shoes were off. Nino immediately wrapped an arm around her, pressing a kiss to her forehead. She sighed, settling in. He didn’t look up from his phone, he couldn’t when he was playing piano tiles. A glance away and you lost.

“Well, that was terrible,” she said abruptly, breaking the silence.

Nino decided to sacrifice that round and glanced up at her from his phone, raising an eyebrow. “What was? Weren’t you just with Marinette?” He didn’t understand how something could’ve gone wrong. Alya loved spending time with her best friend, which was especially hard with all the work Marinette had working at Gabriel. And he didn’t think he’d done anything wrong.

Alya nodded, then explained, “So, yesterday — Was it yesterday? Yeah. What are days? — Marinette and I went to the grocery store and got these ice cream things. Basically, it’s the same concept as mochi but with cookie dough—“

Nino frowned, “Cookie dough?” Who decided that putting cookie dough around ice cream like mochi was a good idea? Wasn’t cookie dough not good to eat? He shrugged away the idea, starting a new round of piano tiles.

“—edible cookie dough, of course. We tried it today and it was too sweet and a weird texture. It just wasn’t good. But it was cheap, so it’s fine,” he felt her shrug at the end, which caused his finger to slip. He frowned at his phone as he lost that round.

Alya continued and he stared yet another round of piano tiles, “So, the moral of the story is: get normal mochi. That’s a good life lesson. Maybe I should sew it on a pillow.” She kissed his cheek unexpectedly, which caused him to lose that round.

He put his phone aside, deciding not to play piano tiles for the time being. Nodding with feigned sincerity he said, “Yes, a very good life lesson, indeed.” The pair stared at each other for approximately three seconds before bursting in a fit of giggles. Even if he kept losing in piano tiles, Nino knew he’d won in life with his wonderful girlfriend by his side.
