Work Text:
"You need to be more careful," Amber scolded, beginning to stitch up a wound on Lumine's thigh.
Archons, hadn't she heard that before?
"I'm fine, Amber. Don't worry about it," Lumine said, ignoring the sting of the thread weaving in and out of her leg. The wound wasn't very big, but it was surprisingly deep. The few stitches were, unfortunately, necessary.
"Why wouldn't I be worried?" Amber asked incredulously, digging the needle in a bit too harshly, causing Lumine to wince.
"It's just part of the job when you work for the Guild," Lumine shrugged, her body relaxing a bit as Amber cut the thread, stitches complete. "Kaeya was injured, too. You don't seem as concerned about him."
"Kaeya isn't my girlfriend," Amber pointed out, looking through her medical kit to find something to soothe the sting. "If it makes you feel better, Lisa does the same with Jean."
"Of course she does."
"Just don't be a dumbass next time, okay?" Amber asked, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"No promises."
Amber nurses Lumine along all day, refusing to let her out of her bed except to get food or use the bathroom. In all honesty, it's driving Lumine up the wall. It's maddening to sit around their house doing nothing. She can't even go to the Guild to claim her commission rewards; Amber had gone to collect it on her behalf. Come dinner time, Lumine was ready to smash her head against the wall.
Lumine does feel lucky to have someone as loving as Amber, really, she does. Amber is sweet and bubbly and always willing to help, goes as far as to put up missing posters for Aether.
She sometimes wonders how Aether would like Amber. Would being around someone as outgoing and excitable as he was make him feel at home and put him in a good mood, or would he hate being around someone so similar? Maybe a mixture, though Lumine was sure Aether would love anyone she did. Across all the worlds they had been to, it was always Aether finding love or getting into relationships, never Lumine. He'd be so excited to see his sister with someone, though she was sure he wouldn't admit it. He'd probably put up his 'protective brother' defense.
Archons, she missed Aether.
Missing a twin was like missing a limb. Lumine and Aethere were never apart this long, had even been together in the womb. The few minutes between them had once been the longest they'd been apart.
And now...well, now Lumine didn't even know where to start. Maybe she could try Inazuma sometime soon...
"Lumine? You okay?" Amber asked, peeping her head into their bedroom.
"I'm alright," She sighed, knowing it didn't sound heartfelt.
Amber frowned, moving to sit next to Lumine, resting her arm on her shoulders. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just miss Aether."
"I imagine it's hard losing someone like that..."
"I haven't lost him yet," Lumine insisted, tone hardening. "I don't want to talk about it right now," She added softly.
"It's okay, I understand."
No, you don't, Lumine thought, but she didn't say anything. Amber was only trying to help, and she was glad Amber couldn't relate to loosing a twin.
Amber kissed Lumine's cheek, pulling her closer and wrapping a fluffy red blanket around them. So much of their home was red. Amber loved the color, and Lumine didn't have it in her to ask her if they could decorate the home in something more subtle. Besides, the color had grown on her.
Red was the color Amber always wore, the color of her vision, the color of peppers, the color of this new home.
"Amber?"
"Yes, Lumine?"
"I love you," Lumine said.
Amber kissed the crown of her head.
"I love you, too."
