“… and he has to have deep knowledge of muggle literature, obviously.” Remus smiles as he watches the dopey grin on Lily’s face widen.
She has been talking about how perfect her future husband would be for quite a while now. It all began when James asked her out. Remus is trying to avoid thinking about how that doesn't bode very well for his fellow marauder, considering all of Lily’s dream traits in a perfect man are the stark opposite of everything James Potter is.
“I don’t really like loud people either.” She continues, leaning her head on her palm as she loses herself further into this, apparently, well-loved fantasy. “I prefer someone quiet and sincere. Everything he says to me will be so much more special that way.”
Remus privately disagrees. Three of the most loving and sincere boys he knows (incidentally his roommates) are also the loudest assholes Hogwarts has ever seen, and he has that fact on good authority by Mcgonagall, herself.
“What about you, Remus? What sort of a husb- er, partner would you want?” She fiddles with the hem of her robe self-consciously, a sheepish grimace on her face. Remus recently came out to her as bisexual but she is yet to completely grasp that that is different from being gay and men aren’t all Remus is interested in.
He gives her a reassuring smile and tries to tamp down on the urge to say the name that sits on the tip of his tongue.
“Someone… confident and smart. I am attracted to intense people, anyway. The charming and mysterious type, you know? Funny, of course, they have to be funny. Sort of sarcastic but never truly hurtful and…-” Remus trails off at that, realising he’s just describing Sirius at this point. He casts a quick glance at Lily, wondering if she’s noticed but she looks none the wiser.
“Well, go on…” she urges.
Remus has to bite his lip, then. There’s no way she can tell by a list of traits, right? He’s been extremely careful otherwise, after all.
“Someone adventurous and bold… devoted, too. Brave, thoughtful, intelligent, generous. Mischievous enough to be awful fun to hang out with but always helpful. Driven and independent, ambitious, you can say. Sort of silly and clingy sometimes because that’s just adorable.”
“Wow,” Lily says, looking vaguely impressed by the length of Remus’ list.
Remus grins.
“And he has to like dogs.”
“Did you hear that, Pads? Quite an extensive list, won’t you say?”
Lily rolls her eyes at the interruption but Remus can’t say he’s actually surprised. These days, wherever Lily goes, James is bound to appear.
“Quite, quite.” Fingers meet the nape of Remus’ neck and Remus can’t help leaning into the touch. “Where would we ever find someone like that, Prongs?”
Without looking up at him, Remus flips Sirius off.
“Though we can leave out the silly and clingy part, I believe. We’re looking for a hot, badass, motorcyclist type, here. A person possessing all those traits isn’t very likely to be silly now, is he?”
“Oh, it’s highly likely.” Remus huffs. James snorts from where he’s pulling out the chair next to Remus.
“Definitely is.” he agrees, only to receive a whack up the head from Sirius.
James doesn’t even flinch instead turning his attention to Lily.
“Alright, Evans?”
“Your face is doing that thing again.” She scowls.
“What thing?”
“The thing it always does when you look at me.”
The thing is called a leer, of course.
James frowns.
“I am smiling.”
“Oh well, in that case, your smile is disgusting.”
As amusing as it is to watch Lily tear into James, the fingers on the nape of Remus’ neck have climbed into his hair, giving a soft tug. Quietly, Remus stands up from his seat, pulling away from Sirius only to follow him deeper into the library, away from the rows of benches and towards the bookshelves.
There, hidden behind one, Remus allows Sirius to draw him closer. Taking a quick look around to ensure their privacy, he gives Sirius a soft peck.
“So… charming and mysterious, huh?” Sirius smirks.
“Here we go.” Remus shakes his head, struggling to bite back the smile that threatens to escape.
Sirius leans in to kiss along the side of Remus’ neck, murmuring against his skin and sending shivers racing down his spine.
“Brave, thoughtful, generous, intelligent… hmm, and what else? Oh, and funny. I didn’t know you think I am funny, Moony, given how many times you tell me to shut the fuck up every day.”
Remus pulls away to look into Sirius’ amused eyes, even as he snakes his arms around Sirius’ waist, pulling him closer.
“Who said I was talking about you? I was talking about my dream husband, you deaf bastard.”
“He better be a bloody good duelist, then.”
“Oh?”
Sirius grins, stealing a quick kiss from Remus’ parted lips.
“Of course. It’s not like I’ll let you go without a fight.”
