Chapter Text
Deep in thought, Akaashi scrubbed and scrubbed over the same area in the bathtub. He ran out of places to clean in his apartment that he decided the bathtub needed another scrub. Only one of two things are happening when Akaashi decides to deep clean, he is either stressed and tired of overthinking or he’s depressed. Unfortunately he’s both at the time, the man he thought was the love of his life and his whole world, walked out of his life. As Akasshi kept scrubbing and thinking his phone rang taking him out of the trance he was, startled he decides to get up to go get his phone but in the process he accidentally knocks over a body wash. The purple liquid leaks all over the bathtub floor and the scent fills the restroom, and the memories also fill Akaashi’s brain of the man who would use it.
Bokuto had just returned from playing an away game and instantly rushed over to Akaashi’s apartment. He had a key to his apartment for situations like these, Bokuto missing his boyfriend. He quickly rushed inside and ran to Akaashi’s bedroom and saw the man sleeping, before deciding to disturb his sleeping beauty he decided to take a quick shower. He came out with the towel around his waist and instantly walked towards the bed, laid down on the bed and wrapped his arms around the man he loved.
“Babe i missed you.” Bokuto whispered into Akaashi’s shoulder as the slender man started to wake up.
“What are you doing here Bo? I thought we decided to meet tomorrow morning?” Asked Akaashi sleepily as he turned around to nuzzle into the man beside him.
“Yes but I missed you too much and just had to see you, but let's go to bed. I love you.” Responded Bokuto as he kissed the top of his boyfriend’s head. That morning they woke up holding onto each other.
With a new ringtone ringing, Akaashi broke out of his daze to go find his phone, to see Kenma calling him. Immediately he answered as he also saw the 5 text notifications from him.
“Sorry I was cleaning my bathtub.” Akaashi immediately responded into his phone.
“How many times is that already Ji? I know you hate how many times I check up on you, I’m just worried about you.”
“I know I know, I’m trying but with the manga taking a break and now being alone I have no idea what to do.”
“I understand, as much as I say I hate Kuroo I would feel lost without him.”
“Yeah, that’s one way of explaining it I guess.” Responded Akaashi as he took a seat on his couch.
Looking around his apartment he realized how much it really wasn't his but both of theirs. The shelf that one held onto Bokuto’s awards from volleyball now sits empty with a plant that's near death. The coffee table that once had the magazines with the cover of him or anything relating to the team are long gone in a donation box. The fridge that would be decorated with silly drawings and notes now looks plain as day.
“Akaashi are you there?” Asked Kenma breaking him once again of his daze.
“Yeah sorry I was just looking around the apartment. You know what Kenma I might leave town for a bit.” Responded the man out of nowhere.
“Um to where?”
“I’m not sure, but sitting in this apartment reminds me too much of him, and this town everywhere i go i see his dumb face on everything, a poster, a water bottle, magazines, just everywhere.”
“Well we have that house in Osaka if you wanna stay there for a bit. Get some fresh air and stuff.” Offered Kenma.
“I’ll let you know, thank you. I’m sorry I keep worrying you and I appreciate you checking up on me.” Akaashi responds and lays down on the couch.
“You know I’m always a call away, take care.” Says Kenma before he hangs up.
With silence once again filling the apartment, Akaashi lays down and starts to process everything once again. The thing was Akaashi always thought Bokuto was the man he was going to marry and spend the rest of his life with, but he never noticed the bad in the relationship. They shared many beautiful and cheerful memories together but not everything was golden. Bokuto could never just hear Akaashi rant about work without him having a way to “fix” the problem, or the way Bokuto judged his spending habits, how he was never allowed to pay, and many other things. Akaashi would start to think about all the bad but it was all followed by the good memories. The night they spent dancing and playing in the rain because Bokuto loved looking at the lightning or the way he looked driving with his hand placed in Akaashi’s with the music playing loud and singing along, how safe Akaashi always felt and how he loved being the big spoon even though Bokuto was way bigger. For a while Akaashi had to sleep on the couch because he couldn't face sleeping alone in his own bed because for years it was his and Bokuto's. Deciding his thoughts were becoming too much he decides to make a quick cup of tea and finish the book he’s been reading for months. Once in bed, comforted by the warmth of the lavender and chamomile tea, Akaashi decides to call it a night. Taking off his glasses and setting them down next to his phone he decides he needs a break from this place and immediately sends Kenma a quick text.
