Quirk Spaghetti

Summary:

The campus of UA woke up, and everything was different. To be more specific, everyone’s quirks were different. A quirk swap.

Midoriya Izuku was the first one to notice this, who woke up feeling remarkably more calm than normal, and slowly got out of bed. The lack of residual strength to draw on felt like a dull hollow space where One for All normally sat.

One for All could not be taken, so he quickly came to a conclusion. No, it had not been taken, but swapped. It would likely only be temporary, so Izuku decided not to tell anyone his findings.

That, and he wanted to see the chaos of the quirk swap with his own eyes, fuelled by the needy mind of the High Specs quirk.

Notes:

idk whattt thiss is, sometimes i am tired and just. weird comes out. you know?

for Emily, prompt Personality/Quirk Russian Roulette Quirk (or tech) . A non angsty version! because y not, you know.

Work Text:

Halfway across the campus, the pro hero teachers were dealing with one of the most stressful situations of their lives.

Nedzu, with a lost intelligence quirk and the newfound power of One for All, was running across the grounds, half a torn suit hanging off him.

All the pro teacher’s quirks being swapped didn’t help things either. Aizawa Shota kept accidentally forgetting which quirk he had at his disposal, and whom he’d touched last. Instead of the pink mist he wanted to bring Nedzu to sleep, all he could find were clones, and multiple doubles were popping over the grass. Shota privately wondered how Monoma was coping.

Monoma, who had used Erasure before after sneakily touching Eraserhead’s elbow, was being dragged into fixing the many, many, accidents brought on through people not understanding their new quirks. Monoma was beginning to realise exactly why Eraserhead was so tired all of the time, if people could just be quiet for one second then maybe he could focus his eyes on their quirks, yes, Pony that meant you -

Basically, Monoma was very stressed. Him and Eraserhead shared that in common, at that moment in time.

Hizashi waved his arm, trying to wipe away the pink mist that had managed to somehow take out three of his fellow teachers, all while somehow missing his intended target, Nedzu himself. The rat bear had scurried up into the vents, followed by a loud banging noise as he shot through them with all the power of One for All.

Hizashi walked backwards, and locked himself in a closet, just to keep his mists from reaching out and making anyone else from collapsing. Being as the closet was not airtight, this didn’t work, and bodies rapidly piled up in front of the closet as people began to investigate what was going on.

Eventually, Hizashi tried to leave, confused by the numerous thumps outside the closet, only to find himself stuck, the door wedged shut by the weight of all the bodies.

If Hizashi murmured a weak “Oh Fuck” to himself, no one was awake enough around him to hear it.

Todoroki Shouto was having the time of his life. He really hoped this swapping quirk was permanent. Just think of how his father would react to him having the seemingly useless quirk of invisibility. Shouto knew of his classmates ability, knew how strong Hagakure was, but also knew a quirk so useless in combat would not bode well for his father’s wishes.

So with those thoughts in mind, Shouto went outside, fully invisible and bathed in the thought of finally being able to hide from everyone’s prying eyes.

An idea came to mind. Maybe like this he could disappear, and Enji wouldn’t find him. Before he could think over the actual implications of doing that, Shouto was off, speeding into the bushes.

-

Ochako twitched and sparks flew from her hands.

“I’m sorry!” She wailed. “It’s just so hard to control.”

Bakugou huffed, crossing his arms. “You just suck at it.”

Ochako pouted at him. “You’re lucky that you got a quirk that relies on conditions, if it was something more instinctive you’d be screwed like I am.”

Bakugou shrugged. “Whatever, round face. Why the fuck do you have the weird little pads on your fingers anyway? They’re fucking stupid looking.”

“Don’t diss my fingers!” Ochako yelled, and fire burst from her palms. “Damnit, where’s Deku?”

Eijirou poked his newly silver skin. It felt weird, similar but so different from his own quirk. Tetsutetsu was a few steps away, prodding at his own hardened skin.

It was strange. Tetsutetsu without silver skin looked way more like Kirishima than he had expected. Red hair, red eyes. It was wild, disorientating for them both

“Kirishima, have you seen Deku?” Uraraka came running up to them both. But instead of facing Eijirou, she was facing Tetsutetsu.

“Um, I think he’s over there?” Tetsutetsu said, pointing over past Eijirou’s shoulder.

“Thanks!” Uraraka followed his finger, accidentally hitting into Eijirou. “Oh, sorry Tetsutetsu, didn’t notice you there! I really need to go find Deku.”

Uraraka ran off, leaving Eijirou behind, feeling faintly offended.

“I’m not Tetsutetsu!” Eijirou called, crossing his arms. Sparks flew where the metal rubbed up against each other.

“That wasn’t cool,” Tetsutetsu said.

“No, that wasn’t manly at all,” Eijirou agreed. They weren’t that similar.

Uraraka stepped into the dorm room, watched carefully overhead by Izuku. She was likely looking for him. He watched the way she held her hands out very carefully, as if for fear of her hand palms. Izuku noted down ‘Explosion’. Interesting she would get Kacchan’s quirk, someone lacking the same anger and rage.

Still, it would be interesting to see if she would give into her base impulses at some point. Most people would.

Ah. Uraraka was now talking to others. If she didn’t find him soon, likely she would start asking the teachers. And Izuku already knew how the teachers were faring, if the long echoing thumping rebounding off the vent walls were any indicator.

Probably best to come down soon, actually. Izuku checked his watch. Nedzu, following a simple pattern that had been simple to deconstruct with a Markovian formulae, was about to enter the vent above the UA dorms in 0.6 minutes, and Izuku didn’t want to be there when he did.

So with great reluctance, and the knowledge he would have to commit himself to speaking with multiple other students, Izuku let himself drop from the vent walls directly behind Uraraka.

She yelped, letting off another flurry of explosions, and Izuku quickly swiped a spare metal sheet from the many lying scattered across the building from Momo’s quirk being manhandled by Mina, and blocked the worst of the flames.

“Oh, Deku!” Uraraka chirped. “There you are!”

Indeed, there he was.

“Mina, you’re going to tire yourself out,” Momo said, bitingly.

Mina ignored her pleas. She was trying to make herself a new phone, and Momo was stopping her from doing so. Phones didn’t have that many new parts, did they? This should be easy. What, they only had a screen, some buttons on the side and metal bits. That was all. Right?

And yet, all Mina could manage to make were long metal sheets, made of the only metal she knew the structure of. She couldn’t remember the name but she was it was something. Iron? Brick? Mina didn’t know and Mina didn’t care. She wanted that phone, damnit.

“Back off, Momo, I’ve got this!” Mina yelled, wrenching another sheet of metal from her chest as she ran down the halls.

“If you don’t stop soon, you’re going to faint! You shouldn’t be making phones anyway! Just buy them!” Came Momo’s call back. Mina heard the faint sizzle as the sound of her acid burnt through the metal sheets. Of course Momo would be able to control her quirk. It wasn’t fair.

“Your reasons are stupid! Stop protecting the economy! Eat the rich!” Mina yelled back.

Ugh, maybe Kaminari would know how to make a phone.

Denki was a sobbing mess, hands touching his now very sticky hair.

“Why,” Denki whined. “Why me?”

“Well, I think I look very sexy,” Mineta said smugly, admired his new straight hair in the mirror. Denki wisely did not say that it wasn’t particularly his hair that had people revolted. It was, well. The rest of him.

“Like c’mon, tell me this isn’t going to get me so many chicks.” Mineta poked out his fingers and purple lighting spun from his fingers.

“You’re going to - “ Denki tried to warn, but it was too late. There was a loud bang, and the light exploded overhead. Mineta swung on his feet, muttering woozily to himself.

“Yeah. That’s going to get you so many chicks,” Denki muttered, before hauling himself up to sit Mineta down before he got himself - or anyone else - hurt.

Kyouka parked herself next to Shinsou, both hiding out in the bushes. Earlier something had tried to knock into them, and Shinsou had instinctively sent it flying with Kyouka’s quirk. They still weren’t quite sure what it had been. They hadn’t seen anything, so they just shrugged and ignored it.

Shinsou passed her a juice packet, and Kyouka chugged it down. She hadn’t used Shinsou’s quirk yet, but she could feel the strands dangling, hanging for her to use. Neither had been particularly enthused by today’s turn of events, so had taken to hiding and watching the chaos unfold. At least this way they avoided the streamers of tape dangling from the ceiling. It had likely been an accident, but they weren’t sure.

Running into a strange, blue-haired girl who had been making a snowman inside had been the last straw for Shinsou, who had grabbed Kyouka, and dragged her to the best hiding spot he could find. Kyouka was very grateful for his instinctive act.

Hopefully all this would be over soon. Neither student liked the perpetual chaos surrounding them.

Just as Izuku had suspected, the quirk eventually wore off. Nedzu exited the vents, ashamedly covering himself in scraps of clothing left behind as an attempt to coax him out.

Todoroki had been found near the gates of UA, naked and attempting to climb his way out. Apparently he’d tried to leave the normal way, but the system only had Hagakure registered as as unable to use the facial recognition system, so he’d been stuck outside. No one wanted to ask why the first thing he’d done was try to leave.

Most of the damage turned out to be fixable, and none of the students left with too much psychological damage. Kirishima and Tetsutetsu both were left feeling vaguely annoyed that they hadn’t been recognised, but neither of them wanted to bring it up. Uraraka still didn’t understand what she had done wrong for Kirishima to be so sad around his presence.

But all in all, the lasting effects of that day faded into the background. As it should be.

Until the day when another random quirk effect hit the campus, and Izuku woke up in All Might’s body.

Not again.
