Why haven’t Sheppard and McKay banged yet?
Yeah, Aliens exist, but this is the real mystery!

So, we were all taken by surprise six months ago when the US government surprised everyone with the revelation that Little green men do exist and actually they are grey, there are space vampires, snakes who can take over a body and make eyes glow and the human race has been travelling to new galaxies through a giant puddle.
Yes, Yes, it is all very exciting and scary and I do not mean to make light of this situation, really I don’t. But can we all collectively agree that Colonel John Sheppard (should be illegal to be that attractive) and Dr Rodney McKay (should be illegal to be that intelligent) have some serious chemistry! Try and tell me you haven’t seen it!!!
Soooooo why are they not together?! Lets take a look at the top ten McShep moments since the declassification. Get ready for some serious thirst!
- Look.
Remember the declassification conference? Of course, you do. They were asked in detail about their relationship and if being in a different galaxy effected their love life? Well right at that moment Colonel Sheppard and Dr McKay locked eyes and gazed at each other… they then said they didn’t get much time to date… not sure how much I believed that after that look.
- The Meal.
Simply put. Colonel Sheppard and Dr McKay on a date. They ate pizza and spent the entire evening staring lovingly into each other eyes.
- The Uniform look.
Look, we are all a sucker for Colonel John Sheppard in his Air Force Dress Blues. Because, DAMN. What a treat for us all. And this time, was no exception, he arrived as a surprise guest on Tony Ketman, but dear Dr McKay was the most surprised of us all… so surprised he couldn’t take his eyes off the handsome Colonel.
- The Science Talk.
Also, on Tony Ketman, Dr McKay went off into a whole science rant. It was… breath taking. That man is really too intelligent. But, it cut to the Dress Blues Colonel and he was watching McKay with a strange steadiness, as McKay darted around his hands flying to explain something, Colonel Sheppard just stared… and appreciated. What was most telling though, was when he looked away, when he realised the camera was watching him. Interesting no?
- The Maths Talk.
Alright, who knew Colonel Sheppard was clever too? Yeah we didn’t either until we all got a rare glimpse into his brain. A graduate from Stanford university where he studied Maths and further Maths, but somehow no one was ready for our colonel to break into complex and detailed mathematical theory live on television. AND correct Dr McKay who was ready to swoon, (and so were we ) as he sat still and took in the wonder that was Colonel John Sheppard being super brainy and clever.
- The Argument.
As if we wouldn’t include this iconic moment. They were doing one of the many press conferences and they disagreed. We can’t remember on what, we only remember the fall out, as they LOST it. Mentions of Kirk like ways (a reference to the womaniser Captain from Star Trek) their friendship, a breakup of a relationship, and my absolute favourite moment. “You couldn’t see someone’s actual intentions if they slapped you in the face with a lemon!” They were mere centremetres apart. Oooooooooooh *fans self*
- The Hug.
We surely all remember this! When Colonel Sheppard was on Eric Anderson and he didn’t know that Dr McKay was going to be there too?! The long intimate hug, so much yearning. That’s it. The hug.
- The Interview.
You are probably wondering? Which interview? They have been interviewed loads. But there have only been a few where someone was brave enough to ask the question we have been curious about. This one on the Danielle Handle show is in my opinion the best.
Danielle - So, romance on Atlantis…?
McKay – Ha! What romance?!
Sheppard – Didn’t you have two girlfriends? One you nearly pro-
M – Be quiet.
S – Just telling the truth…
D – Well I don’t know about girlfriends, but you sound married Ha-ha!
M – Well we are on two planets.
S – RODNEY!
The audience erupted to this moment and McKay and Sheppard both laughed it off… however, there was a moment, they looked at each other… I wonder what happened to make them become married on two different planets? One day readers! Those files will not be classified!
- When Dr McKay was cold.
I bet a lot of you didn’t know about this one, but when being interviewed outside, Colonel Sheppard gave Dr McKay his jacket. They didn’t speak about it, he just did it. It was so simple and beautiful and loving and just gorgeous!
- The moment someone asked.
Oh my gosh, we couldn’t not finish on this one. At one of the last press conferences, someone was brave. Some brave soul screamed at them. ‘WHY HAVEN’T YOU MADE IT OFFICIAL YET?’
There was a pause, a look of shock flashed over the men’s faces. That look told us all, they were not together, but they did look at each other for a long time after that. And that told us that maybe now they were thinking about it.
