Chapter Text
It was late night in Brighton, the lights of the nearby buildings were illuminating two figures on the street tucked in by a small alcove near the promenade. People walking past couldn’t hear what they were saying and they were relatively hidden from the public. From what could be seen one the figures was tall but had slouched to make themselves look much smaller while the other stood much more confidently. The smaller of the two had the other's hands clasped in theirs but that was about all the bystanders could see, though maybe if they looked a bit harder or stayed a bit longer they would notice that a very unusual proposal was occurring.
“Bo, I want to give you this ring to show much much I appreciate you and what you have done for me over these last four months” Ranboo’s voice shock with the amount of emotion he was feeling while giving this speech, he was so nervous, he wanted to get this right and convey the amount of love he had for Tubbo without messing it up. His hands were shaking so much, almost like the weight of all his feelings had been somehow put into the simple gold rings he had chosen for the two of them. “I want to give you this to show that I will always be with you no matter what, through arguments, the stress, the anxiety, sickness, everything Tubbo, I will be here for everything.”
Tubbo looked up at Ranboo with tears in his eyes and happiness shining throughout his whole being. He stuck out his hand towards Ranboo. Acceptance. The hand was shaking as much as Ranboo’s, however, he managed to hold it still while the ring slowly slid onto his ring finger. Tubbo, then held his hand out towards Ranboo, a demand for the other ring.
“Boo, I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me, boss man, this has been a equal relationship, with you being able to help me through so much” Tubbo’s voice was filled with a quiet awe and happiness, Ranboo couldn’t quite grasp what was happening, he knew it was acceptance but he had convinced himself that this would not be reciprocated. “You were there for me while I came out, you held me through all my fears, you are one of my biggest hype men. Without you, I don’t think I would be as happy as I am right now.”
Tubbo took the second ring from Ranboo and placed it onto his finger. Ranboo just looked at it in shock, he had been accepted, they were going to be together for a long time, this felt like a dream. Nothing about this felt real yet, maybe he was dreaming but if this was a dream then he would hold on to it tight.
He pulled the shorter boy into his arms and put Tubbo’s face against his chest so he could feel him breathe, reassuring him that this was real. Tubbo looked up at him and moved his arms so his hands touched Ranboo’s face and brought it down to him, They pressed their lips together. Something about this kiss felt different to the others that had come before it, almost like this new stage in their relationship had increased everything for the better.
The two of them walked towards the restaurant where they were having dinner with the others, they had made sure they didn’t look like they were crying and had decided on Ranboo’s request to not bring anything up to the others about the rings. They walked inside the brightly lit restaurant, a very different atmosphere to what they had just experienced. They saw their friends sitting at a big table in the corner of the room, all talking amongst one another, not visibly waiting for the two of them but Ranboo felt for sure they had been waiting for a little while. He hoped to god that they didn’t ask where they had been, he had no clue how to answer that.
“Ranboo! Tubbo!” Wilbur was the first to notice the two, standing up to give them a proper greeting, the others at the table quickly followed Wilbur in greeting time, thankfully not asking them where they had been while they were waiting. Though, Ranboo thought that Wilbur might have an idea since he caught Ranboo coming out of the Jewelry store earlier, he just hoped that it wasn’t brought up. They made it most of the way through the meal without anyone noticing, causing Ranboo to forget what he was worried about but of course there was one person here who would notice and notice loudly.
“WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?” Tommy loudly exclaimed, causing the table to go quiet along with what felt like the rest of the restaurant “WHAT IS ON YOUR HAND TUBBO? DON’T TELL ME YOU GOT ENAGED TO HIM ?”
Well, that was definitely one way for Ranboo’s anxieties about this whole thing to be right.
“Who would I get engaged to, Tommy? Not like I’m dating someone else, is it?” Wait? What? Did-? Did Tubbo just confirm it was an engagement? Because its just meant to be a promise ring. Did he just propose to Tubbo? But he had plans for that, like pages in a google doc, did he just throw all that planning away by impulsive buying promise rings? Well damn, he’s engaged now, he didn’t quite expect it to happen like this but he also now couldn’t imagine a better way.
“While I’m happy for you two, are you sure you aren’t too young to decide this?” Phil questioned the two of them. They looked at each other and Tubbo nodded at him to answer. He took a deep breath that steadied his whole torso, he could explain well, he could do thi.
“We don’t see anyone else for either of us for a while and if something does happen in a few years, that’s not now, right now we are happy and want to show that happiness and share it with other people.” For an impromptu speech about why they should be engaged, Randoo didn’t think he did half bad, he just had to hope that everyone accepted that answer.
“Phil, leave the be” Niki called out to him, “They can make their own decisions and let them enjoy this moment.”
“Yeah, I propose that we turn this meal into a celebration of this moment” Wilbur joined Niki in agreeing with Ranboo, who could feel himself relax again and sink into Tubbo next to him. He just wanted to enjoy this moment now, no more stress. Tubbo wrapped his arm around him pulling him closer, letting Ranboo’s head fall on his shoulder and put his face in Ranboo’s hair, Ranboo felt himself relax entirely, he no longer could hear the rest of the table. Ranboo could just enjoy this night with his boyfriend, wait- no its fiance now. He had a fiance! How could he break it to Tubbo that he had already planned everything for the wedding? Wait, he needed to stop and enjoy this moment, be in the now like he had said to Tubbo, so he closed his eyes and just listened to the conversation around him. He was happy. He was home. He was with family.
