Work Text:

It’s been a long day, and George hasn’t done much. He’s unpacked one suitcase, but the other two are lying untouched, and so are the extra several boxes, preventing him from being able to see his bed. Speaking of his bed, he still had to put a sheet and duvet cover on it, and he really couldn’t be bothered.

His clock was up, and so were a couple of frames, just to decorate his plain, boring walls. There were three white ones, and one blue, his favourite colour. It had been like that before they had moved in, so he thought it was only right to have this room. Sapnap hadn’t complained, as he wanted the biggest one, and Dream was fine with the one with the most windows.

Each of their rooms had an advantage, and Sapnap even had an en-suite. Dream had clearly stated that the other bathroom would be his and George’s, and Sapnap would have to refrain from using it, as he had his own. That stirred up a small argument, but their friend finally agreed, a sour expression on his face.

Taking a peek at the clock, he was shocked to see it was only two o’clock, and not night time like he had thought it was. Knitting his eyebrows together, he glances outside, and notices a storm brewing. That makes sense as to why it would be so dark at this time of day.

“Where the hell does this go? And what even is it? Someone help me!” Sapnap screams from the kitchen, and George can feel how stressed he is from his room.

George knew Sapnap should never have taken on the role to unpack the kitchen things. He winces when he realises he forgot an extra box meant for the kitchen, and carries it through to where his friend is stressing out and flailing his arms around. He slams it down on the counter, “It’s a toaster, Sapnap. Dream wants it there.”

At the mention of his name, Dream pops his head out of his bedroom door, eyebrows raised and tiny little beads of sweat formed on his forehead, “Hello?”

“Hi.” George giggles, grabbing a kitkat. They were yet to have a fridge, and they didn’t have electricity, WiFi, water, or anything like that, and considering the storm outside, he didn’t think they would have it anytime soon.

“It’s storming.” Sapnap says, digging into the box George brought out and rolling his eyes at the higher amount of items he has to put away.

George doesn’t have the energy to frown and mention how his friend had pointed out the obvious, so instead he trudges back off to his room, hating the mess it was. He grabs his phone and plays some music to keep him going, humming along to the tune and unzipping his second suitcase.

Inside is a vast majority of his clothing, and he shoves it to the side, unzipping another. This one has a bunch of rubbish in it, including some books and more clothes, so he also pushes it away and decides to start on the boxes.

Dream had built all three of their desks this morning, and didn’t let them forget it. At every chance he had, despite only having done it a couple of hours ago, he reminded them how he had done them a massive favour and how strong he was. Sapnap ignored him, and George normally followed in his footsteps.

Taking a look around his room, he runs a hand through his air as he takes in how much he has to do. Moving into a new house was so much more than what it was made out to be, and it required a lot more energy than what George was prepared for.

He starts unpacking his computer and his monitor, and that takes up a good hour to get it all plugged in and sorted, despite the fact it won’t turn on without any electricity. He’s almost impressed with himself.

He’s bored, so he storms next door to Dream’s room, barges his way in, and watches his friend look up from his state on the floor, surrounded by boxes. He doesn’t laugh, instead he collapses down on the bed, groaning loudly. The thunder outside is louder though, and that only makes him even angrier.

“When is the electrical man coming? He said he would be here today, but now he isn’t going to because the weather decided to say no, and now we cant charge our phones or eat or do anything like that, so that means we’ll have to order takeout, but we can’t because there’s a storm outside and I’m tired and I want to go to bed but I can’t because I have to —“

“George, take a breath, god, you’re turning purple,” Dream chuckles, getting up and taking a seat beside him, “We’ll sort it out, okay? It’s not a problem.”

“But, Dream! There really is a problem. How can you be so — so fine with that?” He groans.

But before Dream can respond, Sapnap then bursts in and rambles on about Patches eating something important, and Dream is up and out, but George just lies there, staring up at the ceiling. It takes him a moment for him to be able to get up, but he just about manages to drag himself into the living room and sees their beloved cat eating the television wire.

He’s so frustrated he could cry, but the sight of Dream trying to get her to stop is just too laughable. She only hisses at him, and goes back to eating their cable. George abruptly stops his laughter when Sapnap and Dream both spin around and glare at him, but Sapnap laughs along and Dream curses at them both.

George walks over to the cat and picks her up gently, smiling down on her. Surprisingly, she lets him, and he cradles her in his arms, taking her back to his room. Patches is Dream’s cat, but somehow, right now, she loves George more.

“I’m never going to let you forget how she let me touch her and not you, Dream!” He calls as he uses his foot to open his bedroom door and walks on inside, placing her on his bed.

She rolls onto her back and distracts George for longer than what she should, so he gets back to unpacking, and by dinner time, he’s gotten through a lot of it. Half six, and all they’ve eaten are KitKats. If this is what living with his best friends was going to be like, he might just have to reconsider.

They all sit down on the couch together, and despite the fact they have two and an armchair, which were moved in the day before they got here, they all decide to cram onto just the one. Sapnap is going on about how he’s done an amazing job in the kitchen, and he has, but George’s tongue is heavy in his mouth and he can’t reply.

“Shall we have a nap?” Dream suggests, raising one of his eyebrows at the idea.

“A nap would suit right about now.” Sapnap breathes, relaxing his head against the back of the couch.

George is the one in the middle, and he’s already overheating, so he nods anyways, throwing his legs over Sapnap’s lap, and planting his head in Dream’s. They both look down at him, but none of them really mind. Sapnap positions his own head on Dream’s shoulder, and Dream props his elbow up onto the armrest, his head in his hands.

He’s uncomfortable, so he shifts about until he finds the perfect spot, that being, him on his side, arm off of Dream’s lap and hanging in the air, and his other hand under his head. Patches joins them, snuggling into Dream’s stomach, right beside George’s head.

The three of them are silent for a while, and he’s pretty sure that they’re both asleep because George is drifting off himself, but then Sapnap’s phone goes and Dream questions who it is.

“It’s Karl and Quackity. They’re asking me round for dinner. Can I go?” He asks, but it’s not as if he has to.

“Don’t have to ask, Sap. Have fun.”

Sapnap moves around a little and then let’s out a rather defeated sigh, “How will I get this big lump off me?”

He can hear Patches purr, and then Dream’s laugh, but he can’t be bothered to open his eyes and ask what’s so funny. Instead, he tries to dream about what would happen if he won the lottery, but is rudely interrupted by one of his friends speaking, “Just lift his legs.”

Sure enough, his legs are lifted up into the air and it’s a bit too high for comfort, but they’re soon placed back down again. The warmth of Sapnap’s lap is no longer there, and he can hear a couple more words being exchanged before the soft closing of the front door.

The thunder and rain seems to be still going, as even though the door is only open for a minute, it’s almost defeating. He wonders how Sapnap will drive in that.

“George?” A voice quieres.

He mumbles back a response, “Mhm?”

Theres silence for a while, and George thinks maybe Dream’s nodded off trying to tell him something, and that bugs him, because he really wants to know what it is. Patches meows, and he smiles because it’s almost as if she’s a mind reader and feels the same as him.

“Can we both lay down? My neck hurts.”

“Yeah but ‘m comfy. You’ll ‘ave to move me.” He slurs, and he cringes at how groggy his voice is.

He’s being shifted around, and Patches yelps and jumps down, presumably onto another couch. There’s heat pressed against his back, and then to add to it, theres hot breath on his neck. It’s Dream’s, of course, and he can feel himself blushing due to the small action.

“Is that okay?”

Instead of using his words, he nods, and cuddles up into a little ball, rearranging his position for what had to be the seventh time tonight. It was now probably seven o’clock now, and it wasn’t the right time for them to be sleeping, but if George was correct, around nine o’clock, Sapnap would come home with food, and they’d be able to eat.

Outside, the rain was comforting as he attempted to go to sleep. It sounded beautiful almost, as it pounded off of their patio out the back. George’s favourite thing about the house was the patio, as it led up onto decking and there was a fire pit, too.

His stomach rumbled, and he was pretty hungry, but the exhaustion overpowered it, so he didn’t mind whether he ate right now or not. Sapnap would bring home food sooner or later anyways. He felt safe and comfortable, and even as lightning struck outside, he didn’t mind. Normally, he probably would’ve called Dream for comfort, but now he was actually with him, and it didn’t feel real.

It felt weird, being around someone who he had known online for years, and finally being able to live with him. Even Sapnap, he was so grateful to have had the opportunity to move in with his two favourite people.

It would take a while to get used to, as George was used to living alone, but he would manage. There was absolutely nothing to complain about after all, for he finally had everything he wanted.
