    “Grampa?” Phil heard as he picked up the toy.

    “Fundy?” was his reply as he moved towards the nightstand.

    “Do you think the Antarctic Empire is real?”

    He placed the toy on his grandson’s nightstand, a wooden thunk following with the action, and he pursed his lips and furrowed his brow, thinking about his next reply carefully.

    “I think . . .” he started, turning to face the pup before he shifted his weight to leave, “. . . that it’s more of a legend, Funds --”

    “I know it’s real!” the younger interrupted excitedly, promptly going eerily still, his back straightening.

    The Elytrian laughed softly. “Okay,” he replied before lowering his voice to a whisper. “It’s real!”
