Chapter 1: Skillz

Chapter Text

Reki was in over his head. I mean seriously, Reki was a skateboarder, with wheels. Not a snowboarder, with the freaking cold. Honestly, thought Reki, this was all Langa’s fault.
Langa and the rest of the skating family were taking a trip, which unknown, to Reki, to make sure their little ball of sunshine was still sunny. Cherry told the others that this would make sure the bond between them was still strong/stable. Excited, Reki and Langa had quickly gotten permission from their parents, and Miya told whoever was in charge of his skating that this trip was a necessary part of his skating development. Obviously they believe him. Anyway, Langa got this crazy notion that they should try snowboarding, because he somewhat missed it, and dragged them all here in the freezing cold to show them.
They all took a plane, first class curtesy of our dear friends Cherry and Joe, (Kojiro and Kaoru,) and enjoyed the ride in luxury. Reki was amazed with everything, and when their personal air waiter was to explain the purpose of literally anything, Reki’s eyes would shine. You probably guessed it already, but the woman, she was in love. Kaoru was pleased with Reki’s energy.
Once they got to the airport in Canada, that’s where the real trouble began. You see, practically everything was in English, and the only person who could read that was Langa. Oh, Kaoru/Cherry too, he is after all, an over achiever, Kojiro/Joe states. He gets kicked by said over achiever.
“What does that say? And that?” Reki sniffs the air, “ ooo what’s that amazing smell? Gosh I’m hungry.” With all the questions being asked by both Reki and Miya, Langa starts to go crazy, but he does try his best.
Finally, the get to the hotel. Well, it’s more like a cottage, it’s made out of wood, in a cold place. With a fireplace… yeah, it’s a cottage.
“All right Langa, where to next?” This kid is bouncing off the walls!
“Calm down Reki, we are all tired. Not all of us have as much energy as you.” Shadows first words in a while, you can tell he is excited too, after all he was mad earlier for not being able to bring his girlfriend here. That’s right, our dear Hiromi finally confessed to the woman of his dreams.
“Ok.” Reki pouts. But that doesn’t mean he was going to rest.
Hours later, they have all been dragged outside to contribute to the snowball fight, it was unclear to which side was losing but that wasn’t important. Everyone having fun was.
————
The next day, Langa took them out to try snowboarding. At first, everyone was skeptical. They know the differences between the two, but after Langa recruited Reki to this goal, they all were cooperating.
But Langa was a horrible teacher. The whole group learned that the hard way. And to make matters worse, when he was explaining something, only Reki would get it, Hiromi/Shadow said they had some sort of bond or whatever.
When they first started, they all sucked. Really really bad. They were really grateful Langa wasn’t the rude type. So now they are doing it one by one, all willing to give it another go.

“You can do it Reki! I believe in you!” Langa called out. It was Reki’s turn, sadly, and he was pretty confident. All he had to do was skat- I mean, snowboard like Langa skates. That makes sense.
Leaning a bit, Reki prepares to start heading downhill when he notices something painfully obvious. That is, he isn’t moving.
“Uh, Langa? Please push me.” He sighs, releasing all that pressure build up, now understanding a bit of Langa’s struggle. This causes Langa to laugh, remembering himself saying those exact words back in Japan. Oh how time flies.
Once he is properly moving, Reki leans forward following his board, letting it pick up speed. Feeling the freezing wind blow against his ears, he squints to protect his eyes. Yeah, it does feel like skating.
He can hear both Shadow and Joe cheering him on, as Miya says something that probably aligns with slime, and Cherry was silent due to being all bundled up, scared of the sun. (“Sun? What sun? It is literally freezing cold!!” “The sun gets reflected off this snow Joe, and I don’t want to risk it!”)
Leaning back and forth, narrowly missing rocks and trees, Reki starts picking up the pace, getting farther and farther away from the group. Meanwhile, the said group was having an epiphany.
“Say Langa…?” Cherry muses.
“Yeah?”
“Have you taught us, more importantly Reki, how to stop?” The rest of them grew quiet, trying to think.

“Oops.”
The all took of in a run shouting for Reki, “slow down!” “Be careful!” “Your gonna die slime!” Were all that the other snowboarders heard. The only one who decided to ask for help was Shadow. He turned to this trainer looking guy and explained the situation quickly, and the trainer started panicking, grabbing his board and zooming down the mountain. Shadow doesn’t really know why he had such a look, but hey, he got help.
Reki on the other hand, was having the time of his life! Snowboarding was fun! I wonder if I could pop an Ollie on this?- Reki thought. Nah,, I’ll just do a normal flip. Eying the conveniently placed snow pile, Reki does a normal flip, letting the adrenaline get to his head.
“Waaaa! Did you see that Langa?” He looked back, but Langa was nowhere to be seen. “Oh right.” He sighed, it wasn’t that big of an accomplishment anyway.
“At this rate *huff* we will never *huff* catch up.” Miya gets out.
“You guys won’t, but me? Tch!” Joe actually starts running, at a way faster pace then the group, causing Shadow to groan, and Cherry to mumble “show off.”
Racing through the snow, Joe was starting to see Reki’s vibrant red hair, which honestly gave him hope, until some rude man zoomed by him, spraying snow at him. Well, at least he said sorry?
“What the hell?”
Ok, this was enough. Reki was going to fast, and he was starting to get a bit frightened. Sort of, he means. That doesn’t make him a scaredy slime though.
And it was at this moment, he realized, he had no idea how to stop.
“Langa!!! Cherry!!! J-joe?? Shadow, Miya!!! HELP!” He called out.

Notes:

Can you tell I have never tried snowboarding before? The two links leads to the author of the photo, which gave me inspiration. I told the people on Pinterest that I would make a FanFiction on it and tadaa! It took me five to six days lol. Hope you enjoyed!! See you again soon!
