Work Text:
It was THE day! Their little girl will be born today. It's been months of finding the perfect surrogate and going through all the paperwork but it was worth it. They've know they'll be having a baby girl for months but they still hadn't decide a name yet. Though Aaron had an idea but he was kinda scared to suggest a name. But naming their daughter became incidental when she arrived. They were led into a more private room before thanking their surrogate for the hundredth time („thank you” will never be enough).
Aaron was the first one to hold her..and he never felt so much love for someone in his entire life and his eyes filled with tears. He hold many babies in hospitals and he loved his newphese (the og foxes Kids) but this was different. She already had Kevins dark brown hair plus his prayers must have been heard because she had the surrogates eyes who were the same as Aaron’s.
“Hey Babygirl!” Aaron is pissed at himself for not thinking about something better to say but he felt so much at once and all he can think about is the tiny human being in his arms.
“She’s perfect”, Aaron whispered and touched her forehead gently with his nose. Non of this felt real. But here if was with his - no their daughter. Aaron looked at Kevin. His eyes were on their daughter but he looked kinda pale.
“Here, hold her”, Aaron said and gestures to give her to Kevin but he didn’t move. He grinned.
“Are you scared to hold her?”
“No…”, Kevin said defensively but not quite convincing. That made Aaron giggle a little.
“I promise , nothing will happen.” Aaron handed over their baby and that’s it. Kevins fear of something happening disappeared immediately. All he felt was the need to keep her safe in his arms forever.
“I don’t even know what to say”, Kevin admitted.
“I know.”
Aaron came closer and they just spent a while adoring their daughter. Kevin is the first to break the silence ( even if it was a comforting one).
“So I guess we’ll have to decide on a name.” Right, Aaron totally forgot about that.
They went trough their list of names but non of them fit. They even asked their family for suggestions but they didn’t fit either.
“I mean we have to name her at some point”, Kevin chuckled and looked at Aaron who starred at him, all nervous. There was one more suggestion left and Aaron was still scared to tell him. But the it fits so well and he wasn’t even sure why he was so scared. So he decided to just go for it.
“W- What about Kayleigh?” Kevin looked up and didn’t say anything. Aaron thought that meant that it was a bad idea.
“I’m sorry we don’t have to”, Aaron said quickly but continued so he could explain. “I just thought… that maybe in some way it keeps your connection to your mom alive? I don’t know you just said a few months ago how exy gave you that connection but that everyone has a piece of it now and with you know (Moriyamas) that the connection is not gone but it’s not something private anymore? I’m sorry we don’t have to do it.” Aaron don’t know if that made sense what he was saying but he will drop it if it made Kevin sad or uncomfortable in any way.
It’s not that he always loved the thought of naming your children after a relative and he definitely never planned on naming his daughter Tilda.
“Are you serious?”, Kevin asked quietly and looked back at the girl in his arms.
“I am. And let’s be honest the name quite fits. Except that she maybe has my eyes and still we don’t have to do it… I-“ Aaron couldn’t finish because Kevin started to cry and whispered:
“Kayleigh Day-Minyard”
Aaron dried some of Kevin’s tears with his hand.
“You like that idea?”, Aaron made sure.
“Of course I do, I love it even but are you really okay with this?I mean I’m already her …” Kevin didn’t wanted to say it out loud because even though he was her biological father they were both her Dads. He still felt bad in some way.
“You know that doesn’t matter to me, right? I want this.” Kevin started to cry and Aaron whipped away his tears from his cheeks.
“Kayleigh Day-Minyard… she really is perfect”, he whispered and Aaron could just nod.
He couldn’t wait to raise her, they had a beautiful house with two dogs waiting for them, Neil and Andrew living a block away and their (found) families support all the way.
•••
In the end her birth certificate said ‘Kayleigh Nicole Day-Minyard’ and you can imagine Nickys reaction they named their daughter after Kevin’s late mother and him.
(A lot of crying and screaming)
