Work Text:
It was cold in the detention center. No matter how Athena positioned herself on the small cot she was given to sleep on, there was still this persistent chill deep within her.
Is this why Apollo doesn’t trust me anymore? she thought to herself. Did I drive him away? Just like I drove my mother away?
She thought back to just three days before, when Juniper handed her an orange before she was to go on trial. It was supposed to give her strength and endurance, she’d said. Right now, she could use some of that.
Athena felt a warmth bloom deep inside her when she thought about Juniper. Junie. One of her closest friends. Although, lately, she found herself wishing they were more than that.
Maybe it was because they hadn’t seen each other in nearly seven years, and as the saying goes, “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” And Athena did remember hearing a few bells coming from her heart when they saw each other again at Themis all those months ago. She looked so pretty with her hair down like that, too…
What would it be like to run her hands through it? It would probably be soft and smooth, and maybe it would smell like strawberries. Her thoughts shifted to her and Juniper having a picnic somewhere, Juniper holding a strawberry between her teeth, Athena leaning forward to catch it with her own.
Athena shifted her knees up to her chest. She had it worse than she thought, apparently. And to top it all off, the object of her affections was interested in someone else. Apollo was a great guy (even if she drove him away), and she hoped that he’d treat Juniper right.
She at least deserved that.
