Work Text:
the door slams with a bang!
chanhee sighs, plopping himself back down onto the sofa he was sat on moments ago before an argument ensued. arguments with his boyfriend wasn’t uncommon, of course - that was just how relationships worked, after all.
he shivers a little as he pulls out his phone from his pocket to text changmin. winter was absolutely unforgiving in seoul - the door was barely open for a few seconds, and yet a cold, frigid draft still managed to make its way in.
unlocking his phone, chanhee makes a mental note to text eric later on, just to check as always to see if sunwoo had gone over to him or not.
clicking on changmin’s name in the chat section, he starts typing.
hey
do you wanna go get some food?
it doesn’t even take a minute before changmin replies.
like
right now?
it’s almost midnight?
and?
he could almost hear changmin sighing and rolling his eyes. a few seconds later, his phone pings again as changmin replies.
did you and sunwoo argue again?
chanhee frowns. was he that transparent?
no??
are you psychic
anyways
you can say no if you want to
i know it’s late
what kind of friend would i be if i left my bestest friend in the world wallowing on his own?
-
not even half an hour later, changmin knocks on the door of chanhee’s and sunwoo’s shared apartment with a plastic bag of takeaway in his hand. initially, chanhee had wanted to go out for food, but decided against it once he took a look out of the window and saw that it was snowing.
worry began to gnaw at his chest, because he knew for a fact that sunwoo had left with clothing that was nowhere near enough to protect him from the cold, but he’s somewhat appeased when he receives a text from eric.
hyung
your boyfriend is gonna become my boyfriend at this rate
does he not have other friends
chanhee smiles ruefully as he lets changmin in, who’s ears and nose were red from the cold. the top of his beanie was coloured white from the snow.
“took you long enough,” changmin complains, bustling past chanhee and into the kitchen. “god, it’s freezing out there.”
chanhee types out a quick reply to eric as he follows changmin into the kitchen.
thank you, eric-ah
don’t let him know i asked, okay?
rollin my eyes so hard they’re gna fall out of my head, hyung
i never tell him, do i?
you’re the best
i know i am
“who you texting?” changmin wonders as he begins unwrapping the food they ordered. “eric?”
chanhee hums. “why are you asking if you already know the answer?”
changmin pushes the rest of the food towards him. “you know what? you can unwrap the rest, and you can tell me what you argued about this time.”
chanhee rolls his eyes as changmin, who just stares. reluctantly, chanhee starts unwrapping the rest of the food.
“so?” changmin prompts.
“i don’t know,” chanhee mutters, pulling away a plastic lid to reveal fried chicken. “he was being off with me today. and, like, i can see it, you know? it’s so obvious when he’s not in a good mood.”
“so you’ve said,” changmin murmurs, pulling off his outer coat, shaking off the remaining snow on it before placing it on the table. “but what did you argue about?”
chanhee grimaces. “i don’t know. it was just more of like…” he trails off, trying to organise his words. “he’s been doing a lot recently, you know? rapping, singing, dancing, composing, producing, football with his friends. it wasn’t like i was complaining about how we weren’t spending as much time together, which i don’t really mind - well, i do, but like, i understand we’re both busy, so-”
“back to the main point, chanhee-ah.”
chanhee glares at his best friend. “i was going back to it until you interrupted me.” changmin shrugs. “anyways, as i was saying. it wasn’t me complaining about it, it was more of me just speaking up about how i thought maybe he was doing a little too much?” his statement comes off as more of a question.
“he does a lot, and it must be draining, you know?” chanhee starts to play with a pair of chopsticks, the food currently forgotten. “i’m just worried about him. but then he sort of took what i was trying to say the wrong way, and i said some things, and he said some things, and now here we are.”
changmin hums. “and now here we are.”
chanhee’s phone buzzes, and when he glances at the screen, his heart skips a beat. his phone buzzes a few more times.
“is it sunwoo?” changmin asks knowingly, grabbing his own chopsticks. “i knew it wouldn’t take long. the guy can’t stay away from you.”
i can’t stay away from him either , chanhee thinks, unlocking his phone to check the messages he was sent.
hi hyung
i’m with eric, i’m gonna sleep over here for the night
just wanted to let u know that i love u
i’m still mad tho
sleep well
something squeezes inside chanhee’s chest. of course this is what sunwoo would text him after an argument.
leaning over to read what sunwoo had written, changmin says, “oh, that is sickeningly sweet. you guys are disgusting.”
chanhee rolls his eyes as he types out a reply. “you’re just jealous.”
sleep well
and stay warm, it’s really cold tonight
love you too
changmin gags. “god, i can’t handle this.”
chanhee sighs, grabbing a piece of the fried chicken and shoving it into changmin’s mouth. “shut up, will you?”
-
the next morning, after changmin had left, chanhee texts sunwoo.

D:
chanhee scoffs, pocketing his phone as he gets ready to leave his apartment. he does take a pit stop to grab a caramel macchiato for sunwoo, and suffers through holding the cold drink as he makes his way to eric’s place, trying his best not to slip and slide through the snow that had settled from the night before.
as promised, he shows up in front of eric’s doorstep in exactly twenty minutes, with his hood pulled up to protect himself from the wind and snow, and a hotpack in one of his hands.
only his boyfriend would be insane enough to want a cold drink when the temperature was below zero degrees.
he rings the doorbell, hopping from one foot to another in hopes of keeping himself warm, and it’s another moment in the unbearable weather before the door opens and eric pulls him in, saving him from the icy cold.
“hey, hyung!” eric greets happily, and chanhee sighs in relief to find that eric’s house - shared with his other friends - was like a warm furnace. “sunwoo’s just coming. do you want to stay a bit for a hot drink though? freezing out there, isn’t it?”
chanhee smiles warmly at eric, shaking his head. “nah, it’s okay. we were going to go out to get breakfast anyways. thanks though, eric-ah.”
“‘course, hyung,” eric replies just as sunwoo appears.
chanhee fails to control the way his heart starts to beat faster - a side effect of whenever he saw sunwoo after being apart for a while.
sunwoo’s hair is dark, borderline curly but not - he’d done a perm a while ago, and it was beginning to straighten back out. chanhee loved his hair either way.
he’s wearing black trousers and a black hoodie - not the same outfit he was in when he left their apartment, but his clothes anyways. chanhee knows it’s due to the amount of times sunwoo’s stayed over at eric’s house and left his clothes there, coming back wearing eric’s clothes instead.
a smile appears on his boyfriend’s face as sunwoo comes bounding towards chanhee, pulling on his coat in a half-assed attempt and his eyes still somewhat lidded, as if he went back to sleep after texting chanhee.
“hi hyung,” sunwoo says, coming to a stop in front of chanhee and leaning in to kiss him for one swift moment, to chanhee’s surprise. so much for still being mad.
eric groans. “not in front of me, come on.”
sunwoo pulls back, biting back another smile. then, he schools his expression as he says to chanhee, “you know i’m still mad, right?”
chanhee is so endeared. “of course i know, sunwoo-yah. here’s your coffee.” as he hands sunwoo the drink, relieving his own hand from the cold, he reaches out to pat eric’s arm. “thanks for letting him stay over, eric-ah. i’ll treat you to a meal next time.”
“not a problem, hyung,” eric reassures, and punches sunwoo lightly. “see you another time then, idiot.”
sunwoo rolls his eyes, slipping on his shoes carelessly. “thanks for letting me stay, i guess.”
as chanhee opens the door again, he almost regrets declining eric’s offer of a warm drink - he was warmed for barely five minutes, and now he had to go out again and brave the biting cold.
he calls out a ‘bye’ to eric one last time before the door shuts behind them and he and sunwoo stumble towards a bus stop nearby.
“here, take this,” chanhee murmurs, slipping his hotpack into sunwoo’s hand. “god, what kind of idiot drinks a cold drink in winter?”
sunwoo huffs loudly, and chanhee can see his breath as he speaks. “you didn’t have to get it for me, hyung.”
“well, i kinda did.”
they stop by the bus stop, shivering. chanhee’s got his hands shoved as deep into his pockets as he can, but god, it was cold.
“hyung.”
“yeah?” chanhee looks at sunwoo, whose nose was steadily reddening. he was so cute. “what’s up?”
“come here,” sunwoo says, holding out an arm, and chanhee practically melts into sunwoo’s hold. chanhee squirms his way into sunwoo’s arms, wrapping his own around sunwoo’s waist underneath his coat, where it was warm. he knocks into sunwoo’s drink in the process, but barely feels the pinch sunwoo delivers to him through all of his layered clothing. “hyung, be careful!”
chanhee ignores his boyfriend, snuggling deeper into sunwoo’s warmth. “you said ‘come here’.”
“yeah, i said that - not spill my drink.”
chanhee rolls his eyes, even though sunwoo wouldn't be able to see him. “sorry.” he pauses for a few seconds, listening to sunwoo’s heartbeat, strong and steadfast even through multiple layers of clothing. “i’m sorry, sunwoo.”
sunwoo sighs, wrapping his arms around chanhee even tighter. “it’s okay, hyung. i’m sorry too.”
chanhee glances up to find sunwoo already looking at him, a small smile on his face. “what happened to you still being mad?”
“have i ever been mad at you for more than a day?”
“well-”
“don’t answer that, the bus is here,” sunwoo murmurs, eyes darting over to the approaching vehicle. “let’s go.” his hold on chanhee, however, remains.
“you need to let me go so i can walk, sunwoo.” his boyfriend’s grip around him was still as strong as before. “sunwoo!”
“what?” sunwoo says distractedly, but his smile was growing. “can’t i try and keep my pretty boyfriend warm?”
chanhee cringes. “it’ll be warmer on the bus.” sunwoo lets him go promptly.
“spoilsport,” his boyfriend mutters, and chanhee lets out a laugh as the bus comes to a stop in front of them. sunwoo nudges for him to go on first - he always says it’s so that chanhee can pay the bus fare for him, but chanhee knows its so that chanhee can find a place to sit first, either on his own whilst sunwoo stands right next to him or in the seat by the window, while sunwoo sits on the aisle seat.
it’s so that chanhee doesn’t have to suffer through people’s ass brushing past him, sunwoo says. it was a ‘sacrifice’ sunwoo was willing to make, he says.
he never lets chanhee walk on the side of the pavement that was closer to the road, either. he’ll always will be the one to leave the apartment to grab takeaway, to go out at night if they need anything, lets chanhee sleep on the side closer to the wall, buys clothes and accessories that he knows chanhee will like.
in turn, chanhee takes care of sunwoo. he knows when sunwoo’s not feeling good, and has a tendency to just ‘grab onto him’, as sunwoo says, whenever he notices sunwoo’s darkening mood. he cooks for sunwoo, knows what food sunwoo likes and dislikes. he makes sure that sunwoo gets enough rest, even with his busy schedule.
“what are you thinking about so deeply?” sunwoo wonders as he ushers chanhee into a window seat, plopping down right next to him and getting all up in chanhee’s personal space. not that he minded.
“hm? oh, nothing much,” chanhee answers, giving sunwoo a small smile. he holds out a hand, smile growing inevitably as sunwoo links their fingers together, not missing a beat. “what were your plans for today?”
“spend the day with you?” sunwoo tries, and chanhee raises an eyebrow, knowing fully well that sunwoo didn’t have the full day free today. “spend the first half of the day with you,” sunwoo amends, frowning.
chanhee laughs fondly, and he leans in, placing a quick but firm kiss to his boyfriend’s pouting lips. he finds no small satisfaction in the fact that sunwoo chases after his lips when chanhee pulls away. “that’s a given, but i’m asking about the rest of the day, you busy bee.”
“just a couple things here and there,” sunwoo says vaguely, and chanhee knows he’s trying to avoid the subject.
sunwoo leans in as if for another kiss, and chanhee places his fingertips firmly on sunwoo’s mouth, pushing away. sunwoo makes a face. “hyung, do you want to get into another argument so soon?”
“no, of course not,” chanhee sighs. “i’m just worried. you know that.”
“i’ve told you you don’t need to worry your pretty little head, hyung.” sunwoo presses a soft kiss to the top of chanhee’s head instead, and his heart warms a little further. “though maybe you should wash your hair.”
“hey!”
-
“hyung,” sunwoo starts later that night, when they’re in bed and it’s well past midnight, just as chanhee was about to fall asleep. sunwoo had an arm draped across chanhee’s waist, a familiar, comfortable weight.
chanhee hums. “yeah?” it was a wonder he wasn’t off into dreamland yet, given that sunwoo was practically a living furnace who loved cuddling, which made him extremely drowsy.
“should i take up modeling, too? there was a scout today, actually. she came up to me when i was heading to the studio…” sunwoo trails off, as if noticing how chanhee had tensed beneath his arm.
chanhee takes a deep breath, opening his eyes to meet sunwoo’s. “wow,” he begins. “wow, i honestly, seriously, almost just strangled you right then and there, sunwoo-ah. seriously.”
sunwoo lets out a loud, boisterous laugh, tugging chanhee even closer than before as he tries to fight off his idiotic boyfriend. “you love me, hyung.”
“you mean, i’ve been losing sleep for you,” chanhee grumbles, but stops trying to push sunwoo away and instead nestles closer. he pulls up a hand up in the small gap in between their bodies and pokes at sunwoo’s chest, hard.
and as sunwoo complains and whines, chanhee murmurs softly, “but yeah. yeah, i do.”
