Work Text:

Minho loved his job. The atmosphere of the cafe was so calming and he rarely had a bad day. The cute boy that came in every morning was a bonus.

The puffy cheeked boy with ebony hair had started coming in about a month ago and Minho was smitten. His order was always the same, a black coffee with the occasional chocolate chip muffin.

There was one thing Minho didn’t understand. The boy clearly wasn’t a fan of the bitter drink he always ordered. Every sip forced a pinched face out of him and when Minho would go to clear the table, the mug was always full. Minho didn’t know if the boy wanted to look mature (which seemed like an impossible task with his squishy cheeks) or if he was just keeping up appearances. Regardless, Minho was enraptured.

The next morning, Minho was standing behind the counter and fiddling with anything and everything. He was nervous for today. Today, Minho wasn’t going to make the boy suffer through another cup of bitter coffee. Minho was nowhere near calm when he heard the door open and saw the boy walk in.

As the boy sat down, he signaled he wanted a muffin with his order today.

‘Perfect’ Minho thought. The muffin would match great with what he was planning.

Minho’s heart was racing as he carried the tray containing the order.

“One chocolate chip muffin and one vanilla latte with extra sugar,” Minho said before placing the items down and rushing back behind the counter.

The confusion was evident on the boy’s face and he turned to look at the blushing barista. Minho smiled as best he could and nodded at his favorite customer. The black haired boy looked at the cup in front of him, head tilted. He picked it up and took a small sip, and like magic, his whole face lit up as the flavor of the beverage registered. He continued to drink with a smile on his face, cheeks puffing with his big sips. Minho smiled at the sight and went to take some more orders.

After a good hour of constant orders Minho was finally able to relax behind the counter. Minho’s head was down with his shoulders slumped when he heard someone clear their throat. Minho looked up and he thought he was dreaming. The boy was in front of him, smiling widely.

“Uh hi, I just wanted to thank you for the drink. It was a lot better than what I normally get, but how did you know that I prefer sweet drinks?” the boy asked with a soft voice.

“O-oh well, you always would scrunch your face up as you drank the coffee, so uh I figured bitter wasn’t your thing,” Minho was thankful for his lack of stuttering as he spoke, embarrassed to admit he watched the boy.

The boy’s features softened as he listened to Minho speak.

“I never thought anyone would notice,” the boy whispered.

“May I ask why you would always order something you didn’t like?” Minho inquired.

“Only if you take me on a date.”

“Well that can be arranged…” Minho trailed off, silently asking for the boy’s name.

“Jisung, Han Jisung,” the boy, Jisung, responded.

“Nice to officially meet you, Jisung. I’m Lee Minho."

"Well I got to go, but thank you again," Jisung said while standing from his chair. "I left my number on the napkin, so text me and we'll get that date."

Minho flushed before nodding.

"I'll see you soon," Jisung leaned over and placed a quick, soft kiss on the elder's cheek before heading towards the door.

Jisung waved at Minho one last time before walking out, leaving Minho a flustered mess.
