The Truth about Dares

Summary:

"Well, you've either got to tell us, or do a dare! That's how you said the game works yourself!" Bofur shouted over the commotion all the other dwarves were making.
"Well I'm certainly not going to answer it you dirty dwarf, so you'd best come up with a suitable dare!"

Adelaide and the Company have a game night (well, as much of a game night as you can have in the forest), and their game of Truth or Dare turns in a direction nobody could have expected.

Notes:

Adelaide is a human, in my head. She can look however you please, though of course, I imagine her as me.
Show yer friends some physical affection babes, they deserve it.

Work Text:

"Well, you've either got to tell us, or do a dare! That's how you said the game works yourself!" Bofur shouted over the commotion all the other dwarves were making.

"Well I'm certainly not going to answer it you dirty dwarf, so you'd best come up with a suitable dare." Adelaide ribbed back, crossing her arms across her chest defensively. If her answer wasn't half as embarrassing as it was she would have considered it too easy of a truth question.

All of a sudden more than half the dwarves around the campfire were engrossed in a heated discussion in Khuzdul. Adelaide shot a slightly worried look at Bilbo, but the poor hobbit just shrugged and gave her a kind but pitying expression.

Oin spoke up with a loud statement, and Gloin hit him across the back of the head, but the talk petered out.

Bofur turned back to her, grinning mischievously, as were many of the other dwarves. Adelaide began to sweat a bit.

"Give us all...."

" All ?" Adelaide butt in, feeling quite outnumbered.

"You wouldn't answer quite a simple question! That means you’re hiding something!" Bofur accused, and there were many nods. Adelaide scowled, but he continued. "Give us all…” he paused for dramatic effect, “a kiss."

Adelaide's mouth dropped open, and she heard Bilbo choke a bit somewhere near her. "All of you." She scanned the circle of men around her and sighed heavily. She racked her brain for a sneaky way around swapping spit with a dozen unwashed mouths, and even debated answering the embarrassing ‘truth’ she was avoiding. "All right then." she conceded.

Turning to a nervous-looking Dori next to her, she smiled kindly. Swiftly, she planted a sweet kiss on his cheek.

The dwarves collectively groaned. She grinned at them and stood to make her way around the circle. Next to Dori was Nori, who she gave a swift kiss on the other cheek to. Then poor sweet Ori, who she leaned and gave a little kiss on the brow to.

Bombur looked up at her with his big wet eyes and smiled, and she grabbed his head like a pumpkin and laid a kiss on his nose. He went all cross-eyed trying to follow her lips, and the dwarrows laughed as he continued to stare at his own nose.

Bofur then, who seemed ready for her, lifted his face and gave her a great pucker, closing his eyes like it was some great romantic moment. She pressed her lips to her own two fingers, then those to his lips. The dwarves erupted in laughter, and Bofur's eyes snapped open. He recognized quickly that she was far too far from him to have truly kissed him, and laughed in good humor. She picked up his hand, and placed a kiss on his fingers where she had kissed her own.

"I shall never wash this hand again," Bofur claimed proudly.

"Like you ever did in the first place!" Dori quipped, and the circle erupted again.

Bilbo was next, squeezed in on the same log as Bombur and Bofur and Bifur, and he received two sweet kisses on the apples of his cheeks. He turned rather red and stuttery, muttering something about propriety and how he wasn't even playing the game.

Bifur gently offered her his cheek when she moved to him, and she happily obliged, giving his cheek a little pat as well.

"As you know, I've got a wee lad and a wife at home," Gloin stopped her with a hand up. "I'll not be disrespectin’ them anytime soon."

Adelaide bowed in respect to him as some of the dwarves booed.

"I'll take his if he doesn't want it!" Nori called to the group's amusement.

Adelaide just blew Gloin a kiss that he accepted with a smile and stepped around him to outside the circle.

Gandalf was sitting a bit away, and she heard the dwarrow turn around to watch. Gandalf chuckled when she neared.

"They did say all ," Adelaide told him, before plucking off his hat and pressing a sweet kiss to his brow. One of the dwarves wolf-whistled, which set off more laughter.

As she returned to the group she could see Oin settle a bit. The suggester, she guessed to herself, and instead of even facing him, she simply used her height to lean over him and smack one on his forehead.

The group laughed at what she assumed was the face he made and stepped around him in time to see him shift from grumpy to playful.

Balin smiled up at her with kind eyes, and she returned it, dropping a kiss on his forehead just as she had done with Gandalf.

The circle quieted considerably, and Thorin stared up at her from next to Balin, somehow succeeding in looking down on her.

"Lass... ya don't-" Bofur tried quietly from opposite the fire, and she held up a silencing hand.

"A dare's a dare," she said, and then gracefully dropped to one knee, putting her at more eye level to the stoic king. Then she kept going lower, finally hooking a hand around his heel to lift his foot slightly. Surprisingly he let her, and she figured he knew where she was going with this.

She placed a tender, closed eye kiss upon his boot as a worshipper might.

The circle stayed quiet for a bit before erupting into laughter and hoots and hollers and cheers. She even heard Gandalf's gentle far-off chuckle, and as she righted herself she swore she saw a smirk on Thorin's face.

Dwalin, smiling but still looking rather dangerous, was next, and he was eyeing her warily. She grabbed him rather roughly by the ears and smacked a real wet one on the top of his head where it was shiniest. He groaned and rubbed it after he pulled back.

"Well now I know where those have been!" He complained, and rubbed a bit harder, to the company's delight.

All that was left was Fili and Kili, in that order. She was running out of ideas, and she wanted the dare to end on a high note. Fili looked up at her as she stopped in front of him and wiggled his eyebrows roguishly.

She pulled him up and off the log they had been sharing by the hand, twirled him around, and then dipped him until their noses were barely a beard hair apart. Then she rubbed them together purposely in an Eskimo kiss.

The company laughed and booed as she righted Fili, who was grinning.

"What?" She asked the group as she retook her seat next to Kili, who she noticed was very purposefully not looking at her, a light blush high on his cheeks. "Did I do something wrong? Not what you were expecting?" She beat back their boos and shouts for 'Another round! She cheated!'

Little Ori's voice poked through the jeers. "You forgot Kili!"

"Oh! It appears that I did." Adelaide lied obviously, and she saw Kili turn to her slightly with those big soft eyes of his "It'll have to be remedied immediately." And then she grabbed his face with both hands just as she did with Bombur, and proceeded to shamelessly make out with him.

The dwarves whooped and cheered and wolf-whistled, laughing harder than they had the whole night when they both went over the back of the log without disconnecting.

She only released Kili when Dwalin spoke up. "Let the poor boy breathe, would ya lass?"

Kili righted himself looking thoroughly kissed, to Adelaide's pride and pleasure. He sat rather stiffly next to her the rest of the night, and each time his blush began to fade he would glance over at her and it would flame up again.

Adelaide spent the rest of the night enjoying her effect on him, going so far as to kiss him on the cheek while they were getting comfortable on their bedrolls before saying goodnight. Fili laughed as quietly as he could manage (read: not very quietly) from next to him.

"No goodnight kiss for me?" he giggled.

"You're too far. Kili, pass this along to your brother." And she smacked another kiss to his cheek over his burning blush. Kili scowled at her as best he could while fighting off a smile before rolling over and mushing his cheek into his brother's.

"That's from Adelaide." He said, muffled by his brother's face as Fili groaned and tried to push him off.

Adelaide shook from laughter as the boys began to wrestle, till Dwalin shouted at them to keep it down and go to sleep. It only quieted their giggles though, and even after they had all one quiet Adelaide would sneak looks over at a grinning Kili.

Notes:

hehehehehehehhhehehehehehe
Aren't they adorable? Honestly, this scene came to me while I was mulling over ideas for a longfic hobbit rewrite, and I couldn't think of a good enough reason for Adelaide to be with the company, so this is a standalone scene. If I do write Adelaide into a fic, I may squeeze this in there, but probably not. Let me know if you liked this! I aways like to hear what kind of writing me people like. :)
