Summary
Summer has arrived! JD, Veronica, Heather M, and Martha are all paying their dues by putting time in at the Sherwood Day Camp full of drama, intrigue... and a bunch of kids.
It's not high school, that's for sure and Veronica is none to thrilled when she finds out her counselor buddy is Heather Duke. Veronica can't even fathom why Duke even needs the job when her family's house fits three of hers. Duke's got a secret though, and it's high time she and Veronica started relating person to person anyway.
Drama also unfolds as JD finds himself with a new shadow in the form of a nine year old boy that could use a friend of his own.
No, it isn't the "summer that will change their life" but it is a summer they'll never forget, that's for sure.

[She leaned back and let Maddy lecture. Maddy Larkin was twenty years old and graduated from Westerberg two years ago. She was currently on break from her sophomore year at Ohio State and had been promoted to Head of Staff at Sherwood Day Camp this summer. Maddy took this promotion seriously and was determined to be the best Head of Staff the camp had ever seen.
Veronica remembered her from ninth and tenth grade when she was a junior and senior and Veronica a freshman and sophomore. She had been popular, she remembered that much. Very popular actually. Not in the same way Heather, Heather, and Heather would be when they became juniors and overtook her throne though.
No, Maddy Larkin had all of it working for her: beautiful, thin, blonde, straight A’s, and every extracurricular one could imagine to her name. But with all of her advantages she also had the best one someone could be gifted with: the ability to not intimidate anyone with it. She was just so nice and likable that she could literally get along with everyone and anyone in the school— teachers and students alike. She could be the head of the honor society one day, then the next show up to be the head cheerleader, but also the secretary of the French Club and further class president. No one hated her that Veronica could recall.
In some ways Veronica admired that. She herself had been a straight A student in the Honor Society and “going places” herself but instead of being popular it had meant she was TSNA: too smart, no action. It wasn’t until she bowed to the will of Heather Chandler and revamped her look and dumbed herself down did she get the attention.
In retrospect high school in ninth and tenth had actually not been that bad when Maddy was the Queen Bee. It wasn’t a paradise by any long stretches and bullying wasn’t magically gone, but it had been simpler. More cliques, more fluidity. All that had changed though when Maddy graduated and Heather Chandler had her sights on her group being the “it” table. Veronica was now realizing how easy it was in the span of one summer break to change the entire tone of a school. The first day of junior year Heather C, Heather D, and Heather M had waltzed into Westerberg in coordinated outfits that looked exactly like what graced the cover of Seventeen magazine's back to school issue and made their table the center of the cafeteria and their social lives the envious ones.
That November when Heather C threw the biggest and best Sweet Sixteen… it was over. She was now the reigning queen of the school and there she stayed.
That wasn’t to say that Maddy Larkin was somehow a saint when compared to Heather Chandler. In all honesty, Maddy Larkin probably didn’t even realize she was popular at the time. More accurately, she probably had no idea how annoying her perkiness was to a good portion of the staff now seated in front of her.]
