Erik tells him, "You must learn to keep up appearances."
Erik tells him, "Pretend to be someone else."

August tells him, "I think Erik would have wanted you to just be yourself."
It just shows that August didn't know Erik as well as he thinks.

Erik would never have gotten himself into a gay sex scandal.
If he had, he would have denied it was him the second he was asked.
He had been brought up as crown prince. He knew how to play the role.

Now Wilhelm is crown prince.
