Chapter Text
“First day of high school huh. My daughters has grown up so much.” Taiyang said as he ruffled Yang and Ruby’s hair.
“No dad stop, you’re ruining my hair” Yang moaned swatting her dad’s hand away and fixing her hair, Ruby doing the same grumbling.
It was Yang and Ruby’s first day of high school and they were both standing outside the school with their dad.
“Ok dad, we really have to go now, don’t wanna be late on our first day of high school” Ruby said before being brought in for a bone crushing hug along by her father.
“If anyone says something to you for skipping 2 years tell me and I’ll beat them” Tai said before the girls turned around to walk inside the school.
“I can handle them dad, don’t worry. Cya after school!” Yang and Ruby waved at their dad as they walked inside.
“Well, here’s to a good year Rubes. Let’s go find our lockers” Yang told her sister, both of them walking around the halls trying to find their lockers.
A few seconds of searching, the sisters found their lockers, luck being on their side when they realized their lockers when next to each other.
“Rubes our lockers are next to each other! Now I don’t need to search for you throughout the whole school.” Yang laughed putting the code in and opening her locker, Ruby doing the same, humming in agreement.
When they finished putting their stuff in the lockers they heard the bell ring and bid their goodbyes as they both went to their first class. They weren’t as lucky with their schedule this time, only being in 6 out of 10 classes together. As Yang walked into her first class she saw a certain black haired faunus that she’s been seeing across the street from her window for the whole summer. She thought about walking up to her and introduce herself, but she seemed too involved in her book that Yang decided not to bother her, she can talk to her later. With that decision she sat down on the opposite side of the faunus and waited for the teacher to come.
It wasn’t long before the bell rang and the teacher walked in, “Hello students and welcome to Beacon High School. I’m Glynda Goodwitch and I will be your math teacher for your next 4 years here at Beacon.” Glynda said putting some papers on the desk in front of her before walking next to it.
“Before we start, there’s an exchange student I would like to introduce herself. Miss Belladonna, can you walk up here?” She motioned to Blake who got up and awkwardly walked up next to the teacher, turning towards the students.
“H-Hi, I’m Blake Belladonna and I moved here from Menagerie this summer.” She said nervously which Yang found cute.
‘Wait, did I just think she’s cute? Ugh I can’t just like people I don’t even know yet!’ She mentally scolded herself as Blake sat back down.
Glynda began teaching, which bored Yang to no end, she hated math, not that she sucked at it, she was decent, but it made her want to do anything but be here. One thing that kept her sane today though, was Blake, who she kept throwing glances at and got caught once. The eye contact was almost unnoticeable as Blake was only side eyeing her, but their eyes did meet and for that short amount of time they did something between them grew. Yang didn’t know what, but what she did know was that she found this cat faunus very interesting.
---
40 somewhat boring minutes, at least to Yang, passed and the bell rang indicating the end of the class. She got up from her seat, collected her books and got out, but not before making eye contact with Blake again. That made her other classes less boring, her mind being occupied with a certain black haired faunus.
Luckily, her last 2 classes were with Ruby, which made them at least more interesting having her sister with her. Passing notes even if they were next to each other and snickering though, instead of the teacher catching and scolding them, a white haired heiress did. Yes, Yang and Ruby were stuck in Literature class, 3 days a week with none other than Weiss Schnee.
---
The bell rang, ending the last class and both of them jumped and collected their books, ready to go home, only getting a scowling glare from the heiress. Bidding their teacher goodbye they walked side to side to their lockers, talking about how their first day went.
“Why is Weiss Schnee out of all people going to Beacon High? Don’t all of those rich people go to like, Atlas Academy?” Yang asked her sister as she got her backpack out of the locker, shoving her books in it. Ruby shrugged, doing the same,
“I don’t know, but I’m curious to know why. Think if I asked her she would tell me?” She asked her older sister, closing her locker and leaning on it
Yang flung the backpack on her back, closing the locker and turning to her sister,
“By the way she glared at us there’s no way she’s not going to cause a scene. But sure, if she got your eye give it a shot, become friends first though, I don’t want the ice queen breaking your heart” she teased walking past her sister towards the door.
“Hey!” Ruby yelled running after her sister, backpack flying right and left on her back.
“Ah, finally, fresh air” Yang took a deep breath as she walked down the stairs, Ruby running after her.
“Don’t you run away from me Yang, you can’t be the only one teasing me, any cute girls catch your eye?” She said running into her sister’s back.
“Yang what- why’d you stop?” Yang didn’t answer, only stared at a tree in the distance beside the lake behind the school. Ruby followed her gaze but never caught on what her sister was looking at.
A few double takes and Ruby finally shook Yang out of whatever trance she was in.
“Yang? Earth to Yang, where’d you go?” She asked her sister as she looked down at her confused.
“Oh, Oh! Y-Yeah sorry Ruby, I thought I recognized someone” Yang trailed off, “Let’s go grab some food, I saw a fast food restaurant on the way here, down a block or two.”
---
“This food is delicious!” Ruby exclaimed stuffing her face in a burger while Yang laughed at her sister, eating her own burger and fries.
“Want something to drink? I’m going to grab some soda for myself, want me to get you something too?” Yang asked getting up from her chair waiting for her sister’s answer. “Yeth, some mountain dew” Ruby said while eating, “One mountain dew coming right up. And Ruby, what did I tell you about talking while eating?” Yang sighed shaking her head, a chuckle escaping her lips as she walked to the venting machine outside the restaurant. Waiting for the drinks to fall a certain person invaded her mind. Blake. She tried to shake those thoughts out, not wanting to think about a person she knows nothing about and walked back to the table, handing Ruby her drink and opening her own.
---
Their way back home was pretty uneventful, some teasing and jokes here and there but nothing special. When they got home Tai was waiting for them, greeting them with a big bear hug.
Right now it was some time after 8pm and the sisters were in their own rooms doing their own thing while their dad was cooking dinner. Ruby was studying, which surprised Yang. Ruby usually never studies what she learned at school on the same day, but oh well, it didn’t bother Yang since she would be left alone to do her own thing. She was currently playing video games, the comic she was reading earlier tossed somewhere on her bed.
Around 5 matches later and Yang heard her dad calling her and her sister down for dinner. Yang switched off the game, knowing she would have to get to bed earlier than usual for school and got up, though as she walked to her bed to get her t-shirt on she saw something out of the corner of her eye. As she was grabbing her shirt she looked outside of her window and saw a familiar black haired faunus, sitting on her bed reading a book. She looked so calm and peaceful Yang thought.
‘Wait why did I say that? Why am I even looking at her, we don’t even know each other. Ugh does this make a creep?’ She brushed those thoughts out of her head, she can’t be a creep if it wasn’t her fault Blake was just there out of nowhere. As she was about to put her shirt on she looked outside of her window and caught Blake’s gaze. She was also looking at her. The second they made eye contact Blake turned her head and went back to reading her book, though Yang swore she saw a faint blush on her cheeks.
‘Eh, probably the lighting.’ She told herself before hearing her dad yell at her to come eat dinner,
“I’m coming I’m coming!” Yang yelled back, walking out of her room and down the stairs to the dining table.
“So girls, how was your first day at school?” Tai asked as he grabbed a bite of the food.
“Oh it was fun! Me and Yang share 6 classes together, the teachers are ok, nothing too different from Signal, except some are stricter.” Ruby continued to talk while all of them ate.
“Alright, what about you Yang?” Her dad finally asked after a long one sided conversation from Ruby. How that girl managed to discover so much from only one day of high school, no one knew.
”It was alright, I met some cool friends and oh, I’m going to join the football team, they start tomorrow after school so I won’t be going with you Ruby, sorry.” Yang looked at Ruby who only nodded in return.
“Also, I don’t know how you managed to miss this part but Weiss fricking Schnee is in our class. Why is she attending Beacon and not one of those fancy rich kid schools like Atlas?” She took a bite of her food, Ruby again nodding while stuffing her face with food.
“I don’t know but be careful, the Schnee’s are not people to mess with.” Tai answered, Ruby only looking away trying not to make it obvious that she was thinking about the Schnee girl. Yang of course noticed, she always does, and nudged her little sister in the stomach under the table which earned a glare and a huff from her sister, making her laugh and her dad look at the two confused.
---
After dinner they all bid each other good night and went to their own rooms for the night. Yang did some homework she was given, which she found annoying, why would you get homework on your first day of high school. But she did it anyway, she didn’t want to have any bad grades now.
An hour later and Yang was finally done with the homework. It was currently past 11:30pm and she decided to read a little before she went to bed, she did want to finish reading this volume anyway. She grabbed a pair of pajamas and changed into them, then went to brush her teeth, before turning off her lights and turning on the lamp on the night stand next to her bed to read.
Yang finally finished the comic, putting it on the night stand and turning off the lights, though before flopping back on her bed to sleep a light caught her eye and she looked out of the window, only to be met by the same scenario as earlier. Blake, sitting on her bed reading a book, thought this time she was asleep and the book she was reading fell on her lap.
‘That’s a cute sight. Wait… Oh what am I thinking, it’s probably because I need sleep.’ Yang shook the thought away, or tried to, and went to bed. Even if she tried so hard not to, she fell asleep with a certain cat faunus on her mind.
