Work Text:
Light streams over Ganyu’s face as her eyes slowly drift open. The sun is peaking through the blinds, and through the window she can faintly hear the chirping of birds. Carefully sitting up so as not to rouse the sleeping Keqing beside her, Ganyu looks around bleary-eyed. The clock hanging above the doorway reads 7 AM. She certainly didn’t mean to wake up so early, not when the two of them finally had a day off together. But her daily habits got the better of her.
Beside her, Keqing groans quietly in her sleep, turning over and huddling closer to Ganyu. Ganyu smiles, running a hair through her hair. The groaning quiets as Keqing returns to a restful sleep. The both of them certainly do more than their fair share at work, but Ganyu can’t help but admire how thoroughly Keqing works, leaving no stone unturned and no loose ends in her business plans, often working late into the night, even at home. So Ganyu’s glad that Keqing is sleeping so peacefully.
Well, I can’t talk about being a workaholic. She giggles to herself, running a hand through Keqing’s hair again. Both of them were up late on their laptops, Ganyu finishing her secretarial work and Keqing reworking a failed business plan, all so they could have the next day totally free from work.
“Mmgh, Ganyu?” Keqing slowly sits up, rubbing the corners of her eyes. “What time is it?”
“It’s seven, you can go back to sleep if you want.” Ganyu presses a kiss against Keqing’s forehead, patting the pillow she just vacated. Keqing shakes her head groggily.
“No, I’ll get up. I’m hungry.” She yawns and stretches, her purple hair fanning out against her back. Ganyu gently rubs circles in her back through the thin fabric of her nightgown.
“Anything in particular you want?”
“Just toast is fine. Don’t need anything fancy.” Keqing yawns again, opening their closet.
“Will that be enough?” Ganyu gets up too, leaning around Keqing to grab herself a shirt and some pants. Keqing just nods, still looking half asleep.
Cute. Ganyu smiles to herself as she pulls her nightshirt off, forgoing a bra and pulling on a plain T-shirt.
“Then I’ll go start the toaster oven.” The door of their room clicks as she opens it. “Coffee?”
“Mhm.” Comes the reply from the closet, and Keqing pokes her head past the door. “I’ll be out in a minute.”
“Alright then.” Ganyu closes the door quietly. Walking through the small hallway to the kitchen, she passes through the living room. It’s still a mess from their late night efforts, piles of pages and folders stacked haphazardly. She makes a mental note to clean them up. It shouldn’t take too much time from their day.
Heading to the kitchen, Ganyu looks out the small window. The pink of dawn is still lingering over the skyline, but there are almost no clouds in the sky.
“Maybe we could go on a picnic.” Ganyu says to herself, pulling the bread from the pantry. Filling the kettle with water, she turns it on, waiting for it to boil. Popping a few slices of bread into the toaster oven, Ganyu, sits at the small kitchen table for two, looking back out the window. The ticking of the toaster oven is even and Ganyu can feel her shoulders relax, eyes slowly closing as the sound pulls her to sleep.
“Ganyu.” A shaking on her shoulder rouses Ganyu, and she looks up at Keqing standing beside her. She’s looking much more awake, dressed and hair tied up.
“Keqing.” Ganyu responds sleepily, then startles the rest of he way awake. “The food!”
“Relax, I took them out already. And I made the coffee.” Keqing sets a plate and mug down in front of Ganyu, and places jam and butter in the middle of the table before sitting down herself. “You should do something about your habit of falling asleep in the kitchen.” Keqing’s knife scrapes against her toast as she spreads her butter. It’s that novelty dragon knife that they got on their first date to an amusement park.
“You still use that?” Ganyu grabs the jar of jam, spreading some liberally on her own toast.
“Y–yes, is there a problem with that?” Ganyu smiles as Keqing’s cheeks redden.
“Not at all. I just thought it was cute. It’s pretty old now, isn’t it?”
“Anyways, didn’t you say you wanted to start dieting?” Keqing points the knife at the heavy coating of jam on Ganyu’s toast.
“It’s fine just on our day off, isn’t it?” Ganyu says, closing the jar tight. Keqing shakes her head.
“Just because you’ve got a little tummy pooch doesn’t mean you need to lose weight anyways. You’re just fine as is.”
The corners of Ganyu’s eyes crinkle as she smiles.
“You say some pretty embarrassing things sometimes, don’t you?”
“N–no! I’m just trying to say you’re just fine the way you are!”
“Thank you.” Ganyu rests her cheek on her hand, watching Keqing snarf down her toast, looking away in embarrassment. “It’s just a personal goal. I know you think I’m pretty.”
“Of course I do.” Keqing says as she takes a sip of coffee. “I’m the one dating you, I know everything about you is beautiful.”
“There are the embarrassing lines again.”
“Shut it!” Ganyu chuckles at Keqing’s exasperated groan, and takes a bite out of her toast. She looks back out the window, the sun has fully risen and she can see birds flying across the sky.
“How does a picnic sound for today?” She turns her eyes back to Keqing, who nods.
“That sounds good.” Ganyu smiles.
“Then it’s a date.”
