Work Text:

“... Apprenticeship at my father’s company. Designing fashion for Gabriel . Starting… next week!”

Marinette made a high pitched noise in her throat. “You did. What? For me?” She squeaked in disbelief.

"I’ve seen your drawings. They’re immaculate. How could I not have?" He smiled a toothy, mischievous grin. She was speechless. He continued. "Marinette, you are perfection.”

Thank you, brain. Not the time.

“I mean- not you, your designs are! Mhm! Like, look at them! Of course I don’t mean that you’re not perfect- uh- but no one’s perfect! Yeah. You are wonderful though, don’t get me wrong! Hehe..."

Stop talking, Adrien’s brain told his mouth.

Fortunately, Marinette didn’t seem to notice so much—either she was used to his ramblings, or that she was hiding in her hands.

“I can’t believe this!!” Her voice came muffled from between her fingers.

I hope she doesn’t mean my accidental love confession; Adrien proceeded to die inside.

“I’m gonna design for Gabriel?? ” She practically sobbed—the noise produced by one who knew she could soon remove the word ‘broke’ from her everyday vocabulary.

Adrien sighed in relief. “Had to pull a few strings, but my father’s already aware of your talent anyway. It didn’t take much convincing.”

Marinette finally uncovered her hands and threw her arms around Adrien. “Thank you!! This means a lot.”

“Any time,” Adrien squee-ed. He was being hugged by Marinette Dupain-Cheng. “I mean, of course not this any time- this is only happening once, you can only join a company once! Not multiple times as you’d already be there! The only way you’d join multiple times is if you got fired… not that you would get fired, Marinette! No one would ever fire you! Uh… I should stop talking-”

She drew back, beaming but also looking slightly confused. Then she shrugged and, being her clumsy self, threw her arms in the air in celebration and tripped over her own feet.

“Honestly, you guys are both as scatterbrained as each other! Sheesh, what am I to do with you two lovebirds?” Alya huffed from the other side of the room, not taking her eyes off her phone screen.

“Love- what , now!?!?” One of them screeched.

Alya couldn’t tell which of them that had been. At times like this their voices were equally high-pitched.

She shook her head, smiling to herself.
