Work Text:

Denki yawned, leaning his forehead against the shower wall and letting the hot water run down his back for at least two or three minutes before finally dragging himself upright and beginning to wash his hair. He wasn’t really ready to be awake yet, but then again, he never was. It was like this every morning. He would be woken up by the low, surprisingly soft voice of Seiji, telling him that it was time to get up, a soft kiss to the forehead, then a cold bed. Then he would roll around, trying to convince himself to go back to sleep, but without his boyfriend there, he couldn’t, and the jerk knew that, so inevitably he would drag himself out of bed and go take a shower.

Four years now this had been his morning routine. Four amazing years, and still his friend gave him hell over his relationship with Seiji. Katsuki still called him a traitor when he talked about him with that wild playful smirk on his face… Eijirou still acted offended when he saw them together with the biggest toothy grin… Mina still dramatically fainted into Hanta’s arms when they held hands before they both started laughing…. Sure their first meeting was not the romantic meet cute you see in the movies and maaaaybe they were, at first, something between bitter rivals and mortal enemies. But the enemies to friends to lovers trope they write about in fanfiction all the time? Yeah that was real. Denki had experienced it first hand.

And god he couldn’t be happier.

He loved Seiji more than anything and he would shout it from the rooftops if he didn't think it would embarrass Seiji so much that he got banned to the couch for a month. The thought of it was funny as hell though, bringing a soft laugh bubbling up from his chest as he shut off the water. He whistled a happy tune as he stepped out of the shower, grabbed his towel to dry his hair real quick before wrapping it around his waist. His whistling turned into humming, which then quickly morphed into dancing around the bathroom like a dork and enthusiastically singing an up beat and nameless tune. Soon that devolved into laughter, mostly because he slipped and almost fell, but no one saw so it didn’t really happen. He stood there then, trying to contain his giggles and slow his heart rate from that certain near death experience, but then something caught his attention.

“Huh…?” Laughter abruptly forgotten, he stepped over toward the mirror, eyes fixed upon a small statuette perched atop the granite between the sinks. Once he got closer, he realized that it was the main character from his favorite game. “Whoa… This is the limited edition one… Geez this had to be hell to get, these sold out in three minutes! How…?” He looked up at the bathroom door, then back at the countertop, which is when he noticed the note with it. It was simple, a single line on a small piece of yellow cardstock in Seiji’s elegant script.

I'm telling you to be more aware of your position!

Denki blinked at it in confusion. Of course, he remembered this… This was from the first time he and Seiji met, during the provisional licensing exam. Seiji shouted this at him just before Katsuki and Eijirou had broken free of the meatball quirk, though he distinctly recalled being called a moron with it. Now Denki was even more confused. Why had Seiji done this…? He stared at the note, then the statue again, before humming and heading out into the bedroom. He needed to get dressed and go ask. Clearly he wasn’t going to figure it out on his own.

The first thing he did was take the new statue over to the shelf with the rest of his merch. He knew exactly where he was going to put it too, as there was a spot he had cleared right at the top for this very statue and its counterpart, the one of the main character’s stoic best friend, only to be upset when he had missed them both. At least now he had one of them! He would just have to see if he could find something different to put in that space next to-

“Wh…??” Denki stopped, staring at his shelf with a mix of confusion, shock, and awe. Sat neatly in the very spot it was supposed to be was the companion statue to the one in his hand. Slowly he moved closer, brushing his fingers against it as if he were making sure it wasn't a dream. A soft laugh of disbelief passed his lips as he placed the other one up beside it, admiring them for a moment before muttering under his breath. “How the hell did you manage to pull this off, Seij…?” Then he noticed it… another note. This time, the cardstock it was written on was a strangely comforting shade of purple, but it still only held one line.

Y’know, you aren’t so bad, Meat Guy!

This time, Denki snorted. That was definitely something he said to Seiji… In fact, it was what he said to him after the first time they worked together and he got to see the real Seiji Shishikura. A man who had learned from the error of his thinking and was now focused on changing hero society in a new way. Not by hindering those who might be lagging behind, but by teaching them. Now he was still kind of an ass at that point, but he remembered seeing him immediately jump to Inasa’s aid when he made a mistake and got himself into trouble. Afterward, Seiji had torn the guy up one side and down the other about the foolishness of his mistake, but after getting Inasa back up from headbutting the ground in apology, he took the time to explain more clearly what went wrong and what he could do in the future to prevent it. Inasa thanked him rather excitedly and they finished the mission without another hitch. Afterward, Denki had come over, gently elbowed Seiji in the ribs and made the comment about him not being so bad. At the time, he was pretty sure it had annoyed the man in some way, but he guessed it meant more to Seiji than he thought.

Denki admired the new statues a moment longer before pulling himself away to actually get dressed. He spent the whole time trying to figure out what the notes meant. Why they were left. Yet no matter how much he racked his brain for the answer it never came… So in a frustrated huff, he hurried off to find Seiji. He was pretty sure he was going to be in the kitchen, that's where he normally was when he got out of the shower anyway. However, he only got as far as the living room before he was stopped yet again by the sight of something not there before. This time, a bouquet of westerland roses, his favorite flower, immaculately arranged in a stunning lightening motif vase. Denki made a noise that was definitely supposed to have been words, staring at the lovely orange flowers for the longest time. Normally, Seiji would bring him one flower every so often at random, but there were very few times he got a whole bouquet like this. He was so in awe over it, that he almost missed the note laying in front of them, orange card stock, more neat handwriting, and another line of text.

Traitor! Goddamned Traitor!

“Oh god…” Denki laughed. That was the exact line that Katsuki had shouted at him when he and Seiji got together. It was said with a bright happy laugh and a playful shove… but then followed by a genuine ‘I’m happy for you, dunceface. He seems to really make you smile’. That was also the first time he received a bouquet like this from Seiji. The trip down memory lane bright a happy tear to his eyes and he actually almost forgot his confusion about why this was being done and he hurried off to the kitchen, smiling like an idiot.

Sure enough, that’s where he found Seiji. He went straight over and wrapped his arms around the slightly taller man’s waist and rested his chin on his shoulder. “Morning!”

“Good morning.” Seiji said in his normal stoic tone, continuing to cook as if he didn’t have Denki hanging off of him. “Your coffee is there on the counter.”

“Aaaamazing. Best boyfriend ever. 10/10, wouldn’t trade for the world.” Denki chimed before he kissed Seiji’s cheek and pulled away, ignoring the soft grumble he received for his antics. His coffee was in the same spot it was every morning, right next to Seiji’s freshly poured tea at the end of the counter, which Denki was pretty sure was actually to keep him out of the way. Not that he minded much, because it was the perfect spot to stand and admire Seiji while he finished up breakfast. “Oh! I almost forgot! I’ve been finding your little notes everywhere and some really crazy gifts, you wanna explain what that's… all... about...?” The words trailed off as he went to reach for his coffee, hand hovering near the handle for a moment before diverting and picking up the object that had given him such pause.

A ring…

It was simple, just a black and gold band, but Denki couldn’t help but feel a warm fuzzy feeling in his chest when he looked at it. “I… Seij, What is…?”

Seiji didn’t react, not even to look and see what it was Denki was referring to. “Look on the inside.”

Denki blinked at him, then brought the ring up to his face. There on the inside of the band, another note inscribed in gold. The moment he read it, he gasped and looked up at Seiji, studying him for a moment before looking back at the ring to make sure he read it right.

Our past was memorable, can our future be infinite?

“S-Seiji?!”

“Yes?”

“I-I… What… is this?”

Seiji let off a soft sigh, finishing what he was working on before turning off the stove and stepping closer to Denki. “I suppose I must spell it out for you…” He took the ring from Denki and took his hand, slid the ring on, then brought his hand up to his lips, leaving behind a tender kiss.

Denki’s breath hitched when Seiji slid the ring on his finger and altogether stopped at the kiss. He just stood there, staring, trying to process what just happened but finding it rather difficult without oxygen...

“... Denki.”

“Y-yeah? Yeah, yeah um… you… You mean it?? You want…?”

“To marry you? Yes. I do.”

“O-oh… Oh! H-holy shit!” He stammered, a dorky grin coming to his face. He finally got to a point where he couldn’t hold himself back anymore and practically threw himself at Seiji with a joyful laugh, knocking the man over and sending them both into the floor.

“Denki!”

“Sorry, sorry!” He laughed, quickly getting up so Seiji could sit up. “Yes! Hell yes! I… I’d be stupid to say no. I mean, I know I’m not exactly smart like you, but even I’m not that dumb!”

“Intelligence is not so simply quantified, Denki… nor is it a proper measure of your worth.”

“Uuuuh. That sounded nice. Was that nice?” Then he gasped. “Seiji, did you just compliment me?? Man, this day just keeps getting better and better!”

“Hmph.” Seiji huffed, a tinge of pink coming to his cheeks. “If you will let me up, breakfast still needs to be plated and I’m sure my tea is getting cold.”

“Shit, sorry!!”

The moment Denki scrambled back to his feet, he offered a hand to Seiji, who took it but mostly got to his feet on his own. Before turning back to his task however, he pulled Denki close, giving him a soft kiss that lingered for several moments. When he pulled away, he blushed and quickly turned back to the stove. “I love you. Just as you are. Do not ever change…”

Denki watched him for a moment before a soft smile came to his face. “Yeah… Love you too, Seiji... Now and always.”

“Until the end of time.”
