wake up with a crown of leaves

Summary:

GeminiTay wakes up in a tree and regrets doing so.

A short one-shot I wrote based on Episode 7 of GeminiTay's Hermitcraft Season 8 Series, around minute 26:00, where she decides to sleep in a tree. Somehow that led to this being written, but I'm only partially complaining.

Notes:

it's midnight why did I write this

Work Text:

The combination of chirping birds and the thundering of hooves is what woke Gemini Tay from her slumber. With a silent yawn, she stretched out her arms before rubbing one hand across bleary eyes, attempting to blink away the sunlight shining down on her face. She sat up unhurriedly, grumbling lightly to herself as she swung her legs to the side of the bed. The slight tickling of the leaves beneath her feet startled her slightly, and she shrunk back a bit before realizing where she was.

The day before, Gem had gotten tired of walking around everywhere, as was a given being a part of the No Wings Club. She enjoyed the challenge of having no elytra, but upon receiving the Bronze Medal and a total of 265 days of no flying, she felt like she was having withdrawals. The final straw was attempting to build an organic giant deer outside of her unfinished base, A fun task to have completed, admittedly, but one Gem would rather not undertake again without wings on her back. So she walked to the Yes Wings Club, signed up with Welsknight as witness, and flew off into the sunset with Wels by her side.

It was a relief feeling the wind against her face once more. She loved her horse, Moose, dearly, and loved riding him along all the paths Bdoubleo had made throughout the server, but having the freedom of flying through the skies, able to travel anywhere quickly and seeing everything from up high? Well, there was simply no other comparison. Gem knew some of the other hermits, the ones who had been Players since the Alpha and early Beta worlds came into being, appreciated going back to their roots before elytra arrived in the Updates, but Gem, a newer Player, had missed flying with every block she walked.

It was while gazing upon the deer she made, the sun setting in the distance, that Gem had made the impromptu, exhaustion-driven decision to set her bed down in the trees. It was immensely clear now, however, that sleeping amongst the leaves had been a bad idea. Wincing as her back twinged from having slept in an uncomfortable position, Gemini looked around her at all the leaves covering the blanket. She raised a hand and touched her hair, cringing at the wet dew feeling she got in return. She sighed, regretting everything, and prepared to get up and break the bed when she heard a voice call from below.

“Good morning Gem! How’d you sleep?” Gem glanced at the path beneath her tree-bed. False was looking up at her, squinting against the bright morning light, a large smile on her face and waving cherrily. Gem waved back, hurriedly breaking her bed and gliding down to where the blonde woman was waiting.

“Good morning False,” Gem sighed, yawning as she stretched again.

“I guess that answers my question,” False laughed, “Did you enjoy being among the leaves for the night?” Gem blinked, before responding.

“Not really,” she said, shoulders slumping slightly, “My base may be cottage-core and nature themed, but sleeping in it isn’t exactly fun.”

“I bet,” False replied, “Well, anyway, I came here to ask if you’d like to help me with decorating the paths we made in the swamp a few days ago? I think it’d be nice to smooth things out and make everything look better!” Gem paused, then grinned and bounced lightly.

“I’d love to! Let me go get ready first, sleeping in the trees isn’t exactly good for staying clean!” False cheered.

“Awesome! I’ll meet you at my base!” With that, the blonde took off, Gem watching her go with a smile. Despite her grumpy start, Gem felt her day was looking up already. With one last glance at her giant deer, the cottage-core hermit turned towards her starter base, ready to go build.
