Amity collapsed into her window seat, looking out the window. Slowly, she started to smile. She couldn't remember the last time she had smiled so much. She pat her hands against her legs, a common movement that she reserved for the safety of her bedroom.
Amity jumped up from her seat, almost falling in her excitement, but managing to keep upright. She started to run in place, broken by little hops as she jumped up and down. She flapped her hands in the air and giggled to herself, ecstatic. Amity squealed.
She felt tears spring up into her eyes and didn't move to wipe them. Amity let herself be happy and emotional, for once in her life. She spun around in a circle and laughed.
Luz really did bring out the best in her.

"Okay, I'm gonna head to bed now!" Luz called as she started up the stairs. She looked over at Eda and King.
"Have a good night, kid!" Eda responded. Luz smiled at her.
She slipped into the empty storage closet she called her bedroom and collapsed against the door. She let out a breath.
"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god." Luz was quiet at first, talking to herself. This quickly escalated to shouting "I have a girlfriend!!" loud enough that the entire house could hear.
"EeEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeE!!!!" She squealed, walking around her room in circles, unable to calm down. She was just so excited!
Luz looked out across the water outside her window. She sighed. She almost couldn't believe it.
Amity was seriously the most amazing person she had ever met. Luz couldn't wait to see what happened next.

Amity was the first person in the Blight Manor up the next morning. She went about her routine, getting ready for school.
She looked at herself in the mirror, adjusting her hair. It still felt a little weird to wear it down all the time, but she was getting used to it quickly enough.
She slipped out of her room quietly and started to make her way down the stairs. When she reached the bottom, she looked around. No twins to attack her on her way to breakfast. Perfect.
She continued on, and after a quick breakfast, she went back upstairs to collect her bag. Just as Amity was leaving her room for the second time, she was met with the smiling faces of Edric and Emira.
She smiled right back. "Nothing you guys could do can ruin my good mood," she said. Amity turned on her heel and headed off towards the front door.
"Oh really?" Em asked as they all started walking to school.
"Really," Amity said smugly.
Ed and Em exchanged a look.
To Amity's surprise, the rest of the walk to school was mostly uneventful, save for her siblings' prying.
"What'd you do?" Emira asked.
"Who'd you do?" Edric said next.
"Ed!" Emira scolded.
Amity made a face but didn't say anything. She could see Hexside now through the trees. She picked up her speed.
She came out of the woods, her siblings close behind. Then she saw her.
Luz was standing off to the side of the flow of students, looking around. She appeared to be waiting for somebody. Amity smiled. She could already feel the heat rushing to her face.
She made her way over to Luz. Amity sidled up beside her and giggled as Luz failed to notice her for a handful of seconds.
Luz jumped, then turned. They were face to face, both smiling shyly.
"Hi," Luz said.
"Hi," Amity returned.
They just looked at each other for a few moments, both almost bright red. Amity took a deep breath and held out her hand.
Without a word, Luz took it.
Luz's hand felt so nice in Amity's. It felt like a perfect fit, like they belonged together, as cheesy as it was. Of course, they had held hands before, but this was so different. Luz squeezed gently, and Amity squeezed back.
They nodded at each other, then started off towards the school.

Edric and Emira watched them go, mouth agape.
"She did it," Em said.
"She freaking did it," Ed replied.
"Oh my titan are they together now?!" Another voice asked excitedly, sliding up beside Emira.
"Yeah, they are."
"Awww, they're so adorable," Viney said, leaning against Emira as the trio watched the new couple walk into school.
