Amity raised her fist to knock on the door of the Owl House. She looked up and was met with Hooty's smiling face. He drew in a breath.
"Oh titan no," she mumbled.
The door suddenly swung open.
"LUZ! YOUR GF IS HEREEEEE!" Hooty yelled into the house. Amity blushed bright red and hid her face in her hands.
Amity and Luz had been dating for a week now, and it was still so surreal. They saw each other every day at school, and yet the fairies had yet to dissipate from Amity's stomach everytime she thought about, saw, held hands with, or was around Luz.
She heard footsteps coming down the stairs two at a time.
"Hooty! Don't be so loud!" Luz scolded.
"Yeah, some of us are trying to nap!" King said from the couch.
Luz looked at King and smiled. Then she turned and spotted Amity.
"Oh, Amity, hi!" She waved, almost awkwardly. Amity looked at her through her hands before pulling her arms down in a hurry.
"Luz! Uh, hi," she said before giggling nervously.
"Don't just stand there, come on in!" Luz ran over and grabbed her wrists, pulling her into the house from where she was still standing on the porch.
Amity smiled. It was hard not to when she was with Luz. She looked down at their joined hands. It still felt weird, but a good weird. She loved the feeling, relishing in it, committing it to memory to look back at later.
They stood in the entryway of the Owl House, unsure of what to do next.
"So, uh, what brings you here?" Luz asked.
Amity snapped out of her thoughts. "Oh, yeah, uhhhh…" She looked around, hoping to find a reason for her visit other than the truth, which was just that she wanted to see Luz.
She could feel Luz's eyes on her, waiting for an answer.
"I was thinking, uh, that we could… go over homework?"
Luz beamed. "Okay!" she agreed.
Before Amity knew it, Luz was leading her up the stairs to her bedroom.
The couple sat on Luz's bedroom floor. Amity was lucky she had just come from the library and had her bags with her, otherwise, this would have been awkward.
Luz was telling a story about Eda and Lilith messing around with glyph magic, and Amity was trying to pay attention, she really was! But Luz was just so adorable, the way she moved her hands as she spoke and her face was just so animated. The afternoon sun shone in from the window and highlighted her features perfectly, bathing her in a soft glow. She was breathtakingly beautiful, Amity thought.
"And so then Lilith showed her how to make glyph combos properly and saved the day!" Luz finished her tale. She looked at Amity, who was looking at her but clearly not listening. "Hey, Earth-err, Boiling Isles to Lemon Drop!"
"Wh-what??" Amity coughed, blushing. She met Luz's eyes and found her blushing too. "What did you call me?"
Luz sat down on the floor in front of her. "Lemon Drop! It's a nickname. D-do you like it?" she asked.
Amity nodded rapidly. When her words failed her, her excitement and appreciation were not lost on Luz.
Luz smiled and Titan if Amity couldn't look at that grin all day.
"It's from-" Luz started.
"-That day in the library," Amity cut her off, remembering perfectly. She remembered writing the quote down in her diary.
Luz's smile widened.
"Looks like this sour lemon drop has a hidden sweet center," she repeated. Amity beamed and blushed, then dissolved into giggles with her face in her hand. She was never more overwhelmed with emotion than when she was with Luz. It was hard to contain herself.
Amity felt Luz take the sides of her face and pull her closer. Then, she did something unexpected. Luz's lips landed on her forehead, pressing a soft kiss to her skin.
If Amity wasn't already pink, now she definitely was. Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped slightly.
When Luz moved away, the two just stared at each other, blushing.
"I, uh," Luz tried to find the right words to explain.
Amity let out a breath and smiled reassuringly. Luz met her eyes and stopped, closing her mouth.
"You're cute, Luzura," Amity said before hiding her face in her hands with a squeal.
"Right back at'cha, Lemon Drop."
