once a day, easy to swallow

Summary:

He's become extremely worried now, what if Violence escaped? He wouldn't survive that, he loves the little bitch too much.

Work Text:

Kisaki sleeps best in Hanma's room.

There are a few weeks during his third semester where basically everyone but him and Mochi are at work or in school until like 1PM, and with Mochi being the chillest member of their friend group he, for the first time since they all moved in together, feels lonely. He doesn't mind it though, he needs to catch up on some sleep anyway so he tries his best to sleep in but finds himself laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, completely exhausted but not being able to fall asleep. He rolls around miserably for hours on end until someone comes home or he somehow manages to pass out.

During one of these horrible sleepless mornings, he notices his cat gone. Violence would always nap at his leg, no matter the time, so he's quite concerned at her absence. He decides to go on a minihunt, knowing he isn't getting any sleep until he gets his cat back. He stumbles around the house but can't spot Violence in any of the shared areas. He does meet Mochi pouring Red Bull into his coffee in the kitchen though, but he decides against asking about her, just nodding hi to him. They're both rather quiet guys, neither of them like pointless small talk so this the most contact they have for weeks.

He's become extremely worried now, what if Violence escaped? He wouldn't survive that, he loves the little bitch too much. He walks around aimlessly, rubbing his eyes, hoping he catches her black fur behind one of the couches but it never happens.

Just as he's about to give up and go back to his room and cry a little, he notices Hanma's door cracked open. If he wasn't so sleepy and upset he wouldn't even try it, but he peeps into his room.

The first thing he notices is the mess, the floor is full of Hanma's stuff, he almost trips as he steps in, and the second thing is Violence, napping on his bed. He gasps out loud and rushes for the little cat, grabbing her and taking her back to his room. Violence lets out a confused meow so he kisses her forehead, happier than ever, and lays down on his bed, hugging her close. With Violence purring against his chest, he manages to fall asleep in no time.

The next few times she disappears he goes straight to Hanma's room, sometimes even when he's home. At first he knocks on his door and is immediately handed a sleepy little kitten and it slowly progresses to just walking in and picking her up when he needed her.

With that routine, it was nothing unusual for him to walk into Hanma's room at 5AM on a Wednesday morning. The older boy left for work about half an hour before and he wouldn't be back until noon, so after careful consideration, Kisaki sits down on his bed. It makes a noise and Kisaki notices how hard the mattress is, but after 27 hours of being awake, he decides he doesn't care. He leans back little by little and ten minutes later he's laying on his bed with Violence purring on his chest. He isn't worried – him and Hanma are close friends (weak expression, they're much more than that, Izana once called them soulmates) after all, he even used to crash at his house before they moved out, plus he wouldn't be back for another... 5 hours, so Kisaki lets himself close his eyes for a minute.

The next time he opens them is when he stops feeling Violence's weight on his chest. He opens his eyes with a confused frown and looks around and oh my god Hanma is back. He's sitting by the bed and doesn't even tease him when he notices he's awake, just tips his head back so that he's leaning against Kisaki's tummy and asks if he slept well. Surprisingly, Kisaki did, probably the first good sleep he got in the past few weeks, even though the mattress was horrible and his spine hurt. He tells him this, to which Hanma just smiles and says he can come over whenever he wants then goes back to playing on his phone.

Kisaki appreciates it but doesn't want to take up the offer at first. His opinion quickly changes three days later when he finds himself rolling around in his bed, eyes hurting from lack of sleep, heart hurting from lack of warm kitten at his leg, so he slips into Hanma's room. He wakes up the same way, well rested, Hanma's head on his tummy, smiling up at him. He tries to ignore the fluttering in his chest.

This becomes a routine for them. Kisaki goes over at around 6AM and wakes up to Hanma's arrival at noon. It's really nice, he's well rested and so is his cat (although she never really stops yawning so he can't know for sure). He has no reason to break it off, and at some point starts sleeping there without Violence.

A week or so goes by when he first wakes up to Hanma napping on his tummy. The butterflies are back in his chest as he stares at him for a while. He's absolutely breathtaking like this, calm, quiet and vulnerable, but he also spots dark circles forming under his eyes. It makes sense, he has been waking up at 4AM for the past month or so, but it still makes Kisaki frown. He ignores how worried he is for him (or at least he tries reasoning with himself that he's only worried because he knows Hanma already has a health condition and skipping sleep and smoking just worsens it) but comes up with an admittedly rather stupid plan.

For the next few days, he sleeps on the inner side of the bed, clearly signaling that he left space for Hanma, but the boy never lays down next to him. It's frustrating, waking up to him sitting by the bed, playing some stupid game and smiling at him with deep dark circles under his eyes. He doesn't want to straight up tell him to sleep next to him (he's still in denial), but something has to change before the poor boy randomly collapses due to lack of sleep.

This change happens three days later, when he actually wakes up to Hanma - loudly - entering his room because he slips on one of the bags on the floor and almost knocks over his desk. Kisaki jolts awake to the noise.

"Hey there" Hanma waves. "Go back to sleep, I'm fine."

Kisaki furrows his eyebrows. He's still extremely sleepy, ready to doze off any second, but he weakly reaches an arm out and grabs Hanma's wrist. The boy gives him a confused smile as he pulls him towards the bed but he quickly realizes what he wants and grins. He finally lays down next to him, kind of cuddling because of the smallness of his twin size bed and Kisaki buries his head in his chest with a tired yawn. Before falling asleep he can hear Violence's small pawsteps and feels her jump on the bed, laying on their feet.

(When he wakes up he gets to see Hanma's gorgeous sleeping face up close and finally admits to himself that he has a fat crush on him.)

That also becomes a routine. As soon as Hanma gets home he lays down next to Kisaki who without even opening an eye hugs him close. They wake up cuddling multiple times but it doesn't seem to bother either of them, saying good morning to each other at like 2PM.

What doesn't change however is Hanma's health. He's still really pale, eyes are deep set and baggy and there's a tired twinkle in his eyes at all times. (This Kisaki gets to see even more now that they often wake up with their faces close.) Kisaki does some research and asks the also anemic Ran for advice, who shows him the kind of meds he takes every day. It's pretty expensive but Kisaki is a rich boy, so he buys a 100 pill jar of iron supplements and while he's at it he gets a 90 pack of Vitamin C pills, too. He doesn't know how to go about it, but since he usually wakes up earlier in their sleep sessions, he decides to put a note on his nightstand with the pills. As he slips out of the room to get ready for his evening classes he hopes his plan will work.

About three hours later he gets a message from Hanma during a lecture.

hey, did u put pills on my nighstand?
hanma

Yes, they're vitamins
Why?

hanma

He stares at his phone with an eyebrow slightly raised. He doesn't know what to respond but he doesn't have to, his phone buzzes again.

thanks :^) 4 lookin out 4 me, means a lot ♡
hanma

He tries to ignore the way the butterflies in his stomach react to the little heart emoji for the rest of the lecture.
