Chapter Text
‘Loki…’ The first thing Mobius noticed was that his boyfriend felt slightly different than usual. Curvier, and with longer hair. ‘What…’
Loki caressed his cheek. ‘It’s early, Mobius. You can go back to sleep.’
‘How early…’
‘The birds aren’t even singing yet.’
Mobius perked up his ears. It was indeed quiet. ‘No tricks?’
‘...no.’
Mobius sighed. ‘If I end up dead or fired, you’re out.’
‘Understood.’ They snickered.
Mobius turned around. ‘See you in a few hours, then.’
Loki pressed a kiss into his neck. ‘Sleep tight.’
When he woke up a second time, Loki was gone. Mobius looked at his alarm. 9 A.M.
It could have been worse. It probably meant that it had really still been early the first time he woke up.
‘Loki?’
No answer. They probably weren’t nearby, then.
Mobius stumbled out of bed. Better get down to business.
He hadn’t expected Loki to just be sitting at the dinner table. ‘I thought you were out.’
Loki didn’t reply. They seemed exceptionally deep in thought.
‘Loki? Earth to Loki? There is only one Loki here right now, so yes, I do mean you.’
Loki looked over. ‘I heard you the first time.’
‘It didn’t seem like it.’
‘Hm.’
‘I am late, you know.’
The god turned away. ‘You’re not dead or fired.’
‘Not yet.’
Loki didn’t reply. Mobius sighed and walked into the kitchen. Perhaps they would be less moody after breakfast.
Loki didn’t touch any of the food laid out in front of them. They didn’t say anything, either. All they did was awkwardly fold their arms around their body.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘Nothing.’
Mobius took a deep breath. ‘There is. This isn’t the first time you’ve acted like this. Defensive. Quiet. Plucking at your clothes and skin. What’s going on?’
Loki stared at the table. Mobius rolled his eyes. ‘I’ll be leaving, then. You know where I am if you do decide to talk.’
As he walked to the door, he heard a wobbly voice: ‘Wait.’
Mobius looked around. ‘What?’
Loki got up, their arms awkwardly folded around their stomach. ‘If I’d looked different… you’d still love me, right?’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Just say yes.’
‘What do you mean, Loki?’
They looked like they were about to cry. ‘Like… if my body was different.’
Mobius got closer. He laid a hand on Loki’s shoulder. ‘You’ll have to tell me what’s wrong for me to understand.’
‘Do you…’ Loki flicked his fingers. ‘Do you know about… I mean, like, not feeling right in your own body?’
‘Feeling like you’re… the wrong gender?’
‘Basically. I mean, it’s not, like, always.’
‘Loki, I already knew your gender was fluid. It was on your file.’
‘...what?’
‘On the identity file, it said your gender was fluid. It already surprised me that I never saw any changes. I thought maybe you liked it better this way, so I never asked.’
‘...ah-ha.’
‘You had a more feminine body this morning, not?’
‘Yeah. I wanted to see if it felt comfortable, but…’ they sighed.
‘You were afraid I’d run away screaming.’
‘You’d never scream.’
‘You get what I mean. You thought I’d be uncomfortable about it. That’s why you told me to go back to sleep.’
‘Perhaps.’
Mobius leaned forward to give Loki a peck on the cheek. ‘I’d never be.’
‘Oh…’
‘You’ve got a whole day to think about it. I need to go now. You know where I am and you know when I’ll be back. I also think they’ll be expecting you soon.’
‘I can’t… show up like this.’
Mobius put a hand on his cheek. ‘I’ll say you had something else on your mind.’
‘You should go, though.’
‘Oh, I will. Bye, Loki.’
‘Goodbye.’
When he got home again, Mobius found Loki fussing around in front of the mirror. They didn’t look much different, actually. Just with longer hair and a few curves.
The agent wrapped his arms around their waist. ‘Perfect.’
‘Ah! What…’
‘You look perfect. Come, I’m hungry. I got take-out.’
A moment of confusion. ‘What type of take out?’ Their voice was a little higher, but still clearly the same.
‘Noodles.’
‘...good.’
Mobius pulled them away from the mirror. ‘It’s got chicken and vegetables.’
‘Better.’ Loki turned to look at Mobius. The agent kissed them on the mouth.
‘Come, then.’
