Work Text:
The crew of station 19 had had a really long day, filled with many rescues and even more fires but nothing they couldn’t handle. Even as their shift extended a bit past their usual 24 hours thanks to a call that took longer than expected, they got down of the engines with big smiles on their faces, feeling still the adrenaline in their bodies.
Maya stood in the middle of the barn as her friends started to remove their turnouts. “B-shift is already here, guys, so clean your gear, take it to the turnout room and let’s get going.” The blonde said, clapping once. “Nineteen!”
“Nineteen!” Everyone answered with enthusiasm.
As the blonde turned around, she felt someone wrapping their arms around her shoulders from behind and putting their weight on her.
“We’re drinking tonight, right?” Vic asked, tilting her head so she could see her captain.
Maya’s brows pinched together, like Vic’s question was unnecessary. “Of course we’re drinking tonight. My place?” She said that last part loud enough so everyone could answer.
“Hell, yes!” Andy exclaimed as she approached her fellow female firefighters.
“I’m in!” Travis joined as well, pumping a fist in the air as his other arm wrapped around the latina’s shoulders.
Still standing closer to the engine, Dean sighed as he shoved his foot into his boot. “I can’t, Pru’s babysitter is out with the flu and she doesn’t like new ones.” He lamented.
“Tuck is visiting his dad and Joey has a date so Miranda and I have the house to ourselves for the first time in a very long time, so…” Ben said with a shrug but with no trace of regret in his look. He wouldn’t trade time with his wife to go drinking. Dean patted him on the shoulder like a proud father.
“I can’t come either.” Jack mentioned with a slight frown as he started to follow everyone to the exit of the barn.
The team entered the turnout room in silence and started cleaning their gear. Jack stood at the entrance looking at his friends slightly annoyed. “Is no one gonna ask me why I can’t come?”
“No one really cares, Gibson.” Andy teased with an arched brow, making everybody laugh.
The lieutenant rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped his lips. “Whatever.” He muttered and started putting his things away.
“So, it’s girls’ night!” Vic said excitedly, doing a little dance on her spot.
“Plus Travis.” Travis pointed at himself with his thumbs.
“That’s still girls’ night.” Maya playfully bumped her shoulder with his and lifted her other hand for Vic to high five.
Travis batted his eyelashes coquettishly and placed a hand over his chest. “Am I a pretty girl?” He asked with a sweet tone.
All the team chuckled.
“The prettiest.” Vic slapped his butt loudly as she made her way to the exit of the turnout room. “Dips on the shower!” She yelled and speeded out of there, followed by Andy.
All the boys grunted. There wasn’t any rule keeping them from showering at the same time as the ladies did –and the girls trusted their male friends to not do anything inappropriate– but out of respect for their female counterparts, if two girls were in the shower, they had to wait.
Maya shrugged apologetically at them before heading out to her office to get her clothes and go to the showers as well.
Once everyone was ready to go home, the girls –plus Travis– remained in the reception for a few minutes to sort things out, at what time they would arrive to Maya’s and what would they bring. Vic offered to bring pierogies, as usual, Travis would take care of the snacks, Andy would provide some wine and Maya would help in the booze department as well with extra wine –one of Carina’s fancy ones–, beers and a bottle of tequila. When everything was settled, they said their goodbyes and parted ways, excited to get together later.
As she made her way to her car, Maya dialed Carina’s number, only waiting a few moments until the doctor answered.
“Hi, bella.” Carina greeted from the other side of the line.
“Hi, Carina, did I catch you in a bad time?” The firefighter asked as she hopped into her car and placed her phone in the stand on the dashboard, putting the call on speaker.
“Not at all, I was on my way to my office actually, I’m coming from my lunch break. What about you? You’re not home yet? You didn’t text me earlier.”
Maya always called or texted Carina when her shift ended to let her know she was okay.
“Last minute fire took several hours to put out but I’m okay, we all are.” The blonde commented as she took a turn on the road. “I’m heading home just now.”
“There’s some leftover pasta I made last night in case you’re hungry.” The Italian let her wife know.
Maya could feel her mouth water and her stomach growl at the thought of pasta made by Carina. “You’re a life saver. Literally.”
The brunette chuckled. “So are you, bambina. So are – wait, what is that?”
The blonde smirked. It appeared like Carina had finally reached her office and encountered a little surprise. “What is what? We’re not in video call, I can’t see.” She tried to sound innocent.
Carina chuckled again. “You have no idea how a sunflower made it’s way onto my desk, then?”
Maya could perfectly picture Carina’s smile in that moment. She shrugged, even if the other woman couldn’t see her, and kept the innocent facade. “No idea. It’s not like I have evil minions doing things for me.”
“So, you asked Amelia, right?” Carina deducted, taking the flower and bringing it closer to her face to admire it. “I’ll thank her when I see her later.”
The captain only laughed in response, neither confirming or denying but certain Carina knew she was right. “Hey, Andy, Vic and Travis are coming over later. Girls’ night.”
“Is that was the sunflower was about? To bribe me?” The brunette playfully asked, even if she knew Maya wasn’t one to do stuff like that.
“I don’t know who gave you that sunflower but my guess is that whoever did it wanted you to have a little sun in your day even if it’s cloudy like the weather person said today would be so it required a little planning.” Maya explained the small gesture with a smile, looking up momentarily to find some very dark clouds like it was predicted. “Girls’ night was a last minute thing but only if you’re okay with it.”
“Of course I’m okay with it. It will be fun and I have tomorrow off so we can both sleep in. Do you want me to get anything on my way home?” The Italian asked, setting her phone on speaker as well so she could change back into her scrubs.
“Nah, they will bring snacks and wine, we just provide the location.” Maya said as she made her stop in a red light. “I’ll let you get back to work, beautiful. See you later.”
“See you later, bambina. E grazie mille per il girasole. È bellissimo.” Carina said with a soft smile. “I love you.”
The blonde smiled too as she started driving again. “I love you, too.”
Maya arrived home 15 minutes later, quickly making her way to the kitchen. She pulled out the leftover pasta Carina told her about, heated it and didn’t even bother to sit on the table, she ate the whole thing while standing next to the kitchen island and passed it down with a glass of water. Yes, her wife would probably berate her for wolfing down the pasta instead of enjoying it but the firefighter was too tired and too hungry to eat slow enough to appreciate Carina’s incredible cooking. She washed her dish and glass as soon as she finished her meal –never being one to leave dirty stuff in the sink if she could avoid it– and made her way to her bedroom, quickly undressing until her boxers and sports bra were the only items of clothing covering her body and slumped down onto the bed, falling asleep almost immediately.
Several hours later, the blonde woke up from her slumber. She went into the bathroom, brushed her teeth since she forgot to do it before and relieved herself. Stepping back into her room, she grabbed a pair of leggings and her sneakers, not bothering to grab a top, and decided to do a bit of exercise since it was unlikely she was gonna do anything tomorrow other than spend most of the time in bed with her wife. She grabbed her water bottle and walked to the treadmill, pulling it down from it’s vertical position. She set the inclination at the highest, as usual, and adjusted the speed to 4 miles per hour, deciding to go a little easy. After finishing her exercise, Maya proceeded to move her living room around a little so the sofa was facing the TV instead of the electric fireplace, moving the armchairs that usually face the TV a bit closer to it. Satisfied with the result, the blonde decided to take a shower and wait for Carina and her friends to arrive.
The doctor got home shortly after Maya stepped out of the shower, she could tell by her still damped hair.
“Hi, bella, I’m home.” Carina said, taking off her mask as she closed the door behind her.
The firefighter looked up from her phone, standing from her seat on the dinner table and smiled at the brunette. “Hello, gorgeous. How was work?” She walked closer to the other woman but not that close. She was coming from the hospital and they still had to be careful with the virus –even after being vaccinated–, so there was no contact until the other showered.
Carina left her bag on the table next to the entrance to be decontaminate later and took off her slightly wet coat –it had started raining half an hour earlier–, hanging it on the rack. “Not as bad as usual but I’m in desperate need of a shower.”
“If you had gotten here ten minutes earlier you could’ve joined me.” The captain said with a tiny smirk.
“You can blame that on the delightful Seattle weather, bambina.” Carina sarcastically remarked. Even after many years in the city, she still didn’t like how rainy it was, even if she liked a lot of other things in it. She walked to the bathroom but didn’t close the door so she could still talk to Maya. “At what time are the guys coming over?” She asked as she began to undress.
The firefighter followed Carina and leaned on the door frame, observing her as she discarted her clothes. “They should be here soon.” She said with her eyes focused only on Carina’s body.
The Italian bit her bottom lip at her wife’s hungry look. “Potresti unirti a me, se vuoi.” She offered, arching a brow.
Maya’s gaze shifted to Carina’s face, her jaw tensing as she considered the offer.
The brunette’s smirk grew a little bigger. “If anyone happens to arrive, at least you won’t be lying this time when you say we’re getting out of the shower.”
The firefighter’s cheeks started to heat up at the memory of her wedding day and Andy walking in on her and Carina. She covered her face with a hand as she started to chuckle. “You and Andy will never leave me live that down, will you?”
Carina turned the shower on, the sound of the water hitting the floor tiles barely drowning the sound of her laughter. “Never.”
Maya shook her head and folded her arms over her chest. “Well, I can’t have that happening again so I think I’ll skip on the shower… this time. But after they leave…” She trailed off as she licked her lip and waggled her eyebrows. She turned around and left Carina to shower alone.
It wasn’t long after Carina got out of the shower and dressed that Andy arrived, followed by Vic and Travis a few minutes later, the three of them a bit wet by the ongoing rain as it appeared they didn’t know what an umbrella was. The group got settled in front of the TV –Travis on the armchair to the right, next to Vic who was sitting on one end of the couch with Maya and Carina occupying the middle and the other end, and Andy on the other armchair– with wine and snacks, having a quick discussion about what to watch. They agreed on an Anne Hathaway double feature, starting with ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ followed by ‘Bride Wars’.
“Nate was such a crappy boyfriend.” Vic said when the movie was coming to it’s end.
“And let’s not get started on her friends.” Travis commented as he poured some more wine in his glass. “They liked the presents Andy gave them but they got upset when she had to actually work.”
“I just feel bad for Nigel… he definitely deserved better.” Carina gulped down the last of her wine and motioned for Travis to refill it. “Also, side note, Paris’ streets are never as empty as that scene with Andy and Mr. Famous Writer showed. Less so during Fashion Week.”
“Of course she’s gone to Paris’ Fashion Week…” Vic muttered with faux annoyance while actually smiling to the Italian.
“Can we talk about the fact that Andy throws her phone into the fountain?” Maya prompted as she shoved some popcorn into her mouth. “Like, first, I’m guessing that’s illegal or something. Second, that phone in 2006 was expensive and third, girl, you’re in a foreign country, what if something happens to you? No one could even reach you!”
Everyone agreed with the blonde before starting a discussion about the outfits, mostly lead by Travis and Carina with Vic, Andy and Maya providing some comments here and there.
Maya decided to start the next film when the pair started to talk about the crazy diets the girls in ‘Runway’ put themselves through –since that wasn’t a subject she liked to discuss– and grabbed another wine bottle since their second one was almost empty. They were about halfway into the movie, Vic and Andy joking about putting something on Maya’s shampoo to dye her hair blue and earning a deadly glare from their captain, when a thunder resonated in the room, all the lights dying two seconds later.
“Oh, come on!” Travis whined, throwing his head back.
Maya looked around the dark room, bringing Carina’s legs, which were over her lap, closer. “The power should come back any minute.” She assumed but another thunder on the background didn’t seem to agree.
Vic bitterly chuckled after that. “You sure, cap?”
Andy was who spoke next. “Let’s wait and see, okay?”
They waited in the dark mostly in silence, Maya and Carina taking advantage of it to steal a few kisses, Vic swatting the blonde on the shoulder when she went quiet for more than a few seconds, ordering them to not do anything gross right next to her to which the Italian could only giggle.
When almost ten minutes went by and the lights were still not back, Vic sighed and stood up. “Do you have candles, Maya? I know you don’t like them –,” she rushed to add, “fire hazards and all but we could use some light.”
“We have scented candles in our bedroom.” Carina said, standing up from her spot in the blonde’s lap. “Let me bring them.” She grabbed her phone from the small round table in front of them and turned the flash on to see.
“I think we have some electric ones, as well.” The blonde stood up and checked on one of the drawers on the bookcase. “Aha! We have two!” She cheered, flicking the small interruptor at the base of each candle and bring them to the table.
Then, Carina emerged from their room with three candles tucked between her arm and her body, a fourth one in her hand as she held her phone with the other. “Found the candles.”
The doctor placed them on different spots around them and Maya went to the kitchen to get a lighter. Once the room was dimly lit by both the electrical and real candles, they settled on the couch again.
Slumping down next to Maya, Vic lifted her hands and let them drop to her thighs. “What do we do now? We just wait?”
“What else is there to do?” Andy said, her tone a little sad, as she gulped down more wine.
“What about some drinking games? There’s beer for beer pong, right?” Travis suggested, grabbing the last pierogi on the tray.
“Nope, no beer pong. It will end all on my floor.” Maya quickly shut that idea down.
“Drunk Jenga?” Andy spoke this time.
“I forgot it a Dean’s last time we got together to drink.” The blonde remembered, sighing in defeat.
Vic clapped and lifted a fist when she got another idea. “Never have I ever!”
Travis snorted. “Like we haven’t done that before. We know all of our dirty secrets.”
“Besides, it’s really annoying when it gets super specific, like, ‘never have I ever slept with my best friend’s mortal enemy for the running for captain’.” Andy complained.
“I didn’t know who she was!” Maya quickly rebuked, making everybody laugh, even Carina.
“How about spelling bee?” Travis suggested again, earning some confused looks.
“That’s not a drinking game.” The latina stated.
Carina leaned over to whisper to Maya’s ear. “What do bees have to do with spelling?”
The captain though about the answer for a few seconds. “Uh, I don’t really know.” She said to her wife and then turned to Travis. “But Andy is right, that’s not a drinking game.”
“But it could be!” Vic supported her best friend. “Come on, we have to do something.”
“Okay, let’s say we do it. What are the rules?” Andy inquired, pouring the last of the wine in her glass.
“Well, we, uh…” Travis trailed off for a second and then snapped his fingers as the idea hit him. “We give the person the word, if they get it wrong they drink a shot and if they get it right, the rest has to drink, how about that?”
“I like that idea.” Maya said with a smile, a little surprised that the ‘game’ didn’t sound so bad. It was either that or the many wine glasses already affecting her.
“Me too.” The lieutenant said as she stood up. “I’ll go get the tequila.” She turned on her flash and walked to the kitchen.
“Wait a minute. This is not fair.” Carina interjected. “English is not my first language, I’m at disadvantage.”
“Maya will drink for you if you get a word wrong.” Vic offered a solution with a smirk directed to her captain.
“What!? How is that fair to me?” The blonde immediately complained, looking at Carina first and then at Vic who continued to smugly smirk at her.
“She’s your wife, cap, it doesn’t have to be fair.” Travis said with a mocking shrug, making Maya grunt and bury her head on the brunette’s neck.
“We need a book or something to get random words.” Vic used her phone’s flash as well and approached the bookshelf.
“Not those books.” Maya said, lifting her head from Carina’s neck, as Vic scanned through the titles.
“Why not?” Both Travis and Vic asked.
“Do you have a hidden lesbian Kamasutra in here?” Vic mischievously asked, wagging her eyebrows.
Carina chuckled. “No, we keep that one in our bedroom.”
In the dark, Maya’s cheeks pinked up slightly and she was almost tempted to hide her face again.
“Those books are Carina’s books so they’re either in Italian or they’re about medicine.” The blonde tried to keep the trembling of her voice at bay. Having Carina say those things as her body was pressed onto hers was making it hard.
“Or both.” The doctor added.
Vic scratched the back of her neck. “Okay, do you have a dictionary or something?”
“I think so, let me see.” Carina got up again, to which Maya complained as she missed the brunette’s warmth against her skin.
The doctor rummaged through some more drawers until she found the dictionary she was looking for. “Here it is.”
“A little help here?” Andy said from the kitchen.
Vic quickly approached her and grabbed the tequila bottle and three shot glasses as the latina grabbed the other two and a small plate with sliced lemon and salt. Travis and Maya removed the leftover snacks and empty glasses from the coffee table to make room for the game ‘supplies’, careful to not knock over the electric candles.
“So, who will begin?” Travis asked, rubbing his hands together with a grin on his face.
“Since you’re so eager, I say you go first, Trav.” Maya said, taking the dictionary from her wife’s hands as starting flipping through its pages.
“All right. Shoot, captain.” The man said excitedly, almost bouncing in his seat.
“Wait a minute.” Vic interrupted, placing a hand over the dictionary to stop Maya from reading anything and her other hand going to Travis’ shoulder. “I think we should all take a shot together to get in the mood.”
“I agree with Vic.” Andy said, already filling the shot glasses. Setting the bottle down and taking her own shot, the latina raised it into the air as if making a toast, waiting for her friends to do the same. “Pa’rriba, pa’bajo, pa’l centro y pa’dentro.” She said as she moved her shot up, down, to the center and finally to her lips, throwing her head back and barely making a face.
Maya and Travis reached for a slice of lemon to cut the burning feeling in their throats while Vic just made a face and Carina laughed at the blonde for needing to cut the effect of the drink. The captain was definitely not a light weight when it came to drinking but, contrary to popular believe, she preferred fruity drinks instead of taking neat alcohol but she would never let her friends know that, although whiskey was an exception to that.
“Let’s get started, then.” Travis grabbed the tequila bottle and refilled everyone’s shots. “Hit me.” He said, extending and retracting his fingers in a beckoning sign.
“Okay, here goes…” Maya grabbed her phone and turned the flash on to better read the words in the dictionary. “Acquiesce.”
The man scrunched up his face at the word coming out of Maya’s lips. “What is that?”
Vic leaned towards the blonde so she could read the definition on the book. “According to this, it means ‘accept something reluctantly but without protest’.”
“Can you use it in a sentence?” Travis asked as he scratched his cheek, trying to buy himself some time.
“Travis acquiesced in his captain’s decision of assigning him bathroom duty for a month.” Maya said with a sly smirk.
“I would never not protest at that.” He pointed at the blonde with an arched brow.
“Stop fooling around, Trav. Spell it out “ Andy said from her seat, resting her forearms on her knees.
The man raised his hands in defeat. “Okay, okay, let’s see…” He looked to the ceiling, thinking. “A, Q…”
“Wrong! Drink up, buddy!” Vic shook Travis by his shoulder.
“What!? How is it spelled, then?” He asked and reluctantly reached for his shot and his lemon slice, not without sprinkling some salt on the back of his hand first.
“There’s a C after the A, and it has S and C as well.” Carina elaborated as she leaned to see the book over her thighs –since her legs were on top of Maya’s lap again– as she played with the blonde’s hair.
“So, you’re just gonna pick the shittiest words ever?” The man complained.
“You suggested this game, Travis.” Andy reminded him with a mocking voice and a big smirk on her lips.
The girls laughed when he sighed heavily.
“Okay, it’s Vic’s turn. Andy, you read it so she doesn’t cheat.” Carina grabbed the dictionary and gave it to the other brunette.
“Okay, let’s see…” She flipped through the pages fast and stopped at a random one. “Playwright.”
“That’s an easy one.” Vic beamed. “P, L, A, Y, W, R, I, G, H and T.”
“That can’t be right.” Travis was the first who spoke. “It’s ‘write’, right? Like, W, R, I, T, E, not G, H, T.”
Andy chuckled at that. “No, she got it right.”
“Oh, yeah!” Vic ‘danced’ in her spot on the couch. “You forget I went to college for musical theatre, dummies. Now, drink.”
Everyone reached for their shots, Maya taking two and handing Carina one of them. They downed the tequila and set their glasses on the table, Vic kindly refilling them again.
It was now Maya’s turn to go and Andy flipped through the dictionary some more. “Captain, you’re up.”
The blonde nodded and rubbed her hands on Carina’s legs.
The doctor leaned into her wife and pressed her lips on her neck. “In bocca al lupo, bella.” She whispered.
Maya smiled in return. “Crepi il lipo.” She answered before shifting her gaze towards Andy a moment later. “C’mon, Herrera.”
“Conscientious.” The latina said.
“That sounds easy.” The blonde commented with a smirk. “Let’s see… C, O, N… S, C, I, E, N, C –”
“Wah, wah.” The lieutenant mocked, signaling Maya’s mistake.
“What? No way!” The blonde frowned.
“Sorry, cap.” Andy shrugged and gave her friend a faux apologetic smile. “It’s spelled with a T, not a C.”
“Let me see that.” Maya extended her hand, demanding the dictionary. She growled when she confirmed her mistake.
Carina laughed beside her. “I guess the wolf didn’t die.”
The captain shook her head as she chuckled, leaning to grab her shot and her lemon slice. “I guess it didn’t.” She said before downing the liquor.
“Let’s keep this going!” Travis stood up and grabbed the dictionary from the table –where Maya left it to grab her shot. “Carina, are you ready?”
The Italian nodded and shifted to get closer to her wife, swinging an arm behind her shoulders. “I am.”
The man quickly flipped through the pages, stopping about midway into the book. “The word is ‘liquefy’.”
Carina smiled as she nodded. “Okay, okay, uh, L, I, Q, U, I –”
Travis made a face as he hissed. “I’m afraid that’s incorrect. The next letter was E, not I.”
“God, no.” Maya lamented as she threw her head back, on Carina’s arm.
“Here you go, Maya.” Vic sniggered as she gave the blonde her tequila shot.
Maya looked at the amber liquid in the long glass for a moment before taking it to her lips. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly, feeling the burn in her throat. They hadn’t even finished the first round and she had already drank three shots –plus the first one before the game started. It was not looking good for her.
“You need to get better at this, babe.” The blonde said, her voice a little hoarse.
Andy snorted. “You know you have to drink too if she gets it right, right? Same as the rest of us.”
“No!” The captain shook her head, much to her regret a second later. “No, no, no, I drink if she gets it wrong.”
“And we all drink if the person gets it right, stop complaining, Maya.” Andy insisted.
“I’m screwed, aren’t I?” The captain mumbled, resting her temple on the brunette’s forehead.
“Not yet.” She whispered before kissing her cheekbone.
“Save that for later, lovebirds.” Vic exclaimed, grabbing the dictionary from Travis’ hands. “Andy, you’re next. Fuchsia, as in the color.”
“F, U, C, S –” Andy started without delay but didn’t expect to be stopped by Vic.
“Wrong!” She prolonged the sound of the ‘o’ for a few seconds. “You missed an H.”
“There’s no H in fuchsia!” The latina immediately complained.
“Maybe not in Spanish but in English, yes, there is.” Vic showed the lieutenant the proof of her mistake in the dictionary.
Andy blew some air out but didn’t say anything further, grabbing her shot and drinking it in a swift move.
The game kept going, Travis and Vic getting their next words right meaning the rest had to drink –the liquor in the bottle was disappearing fast. Maya was next but she was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol as she was one who had drank the most with six shots under her belt, Travis, Carina and Andy with four and Vic was the only one who had drank just two shots.
Travis grabbed the dictionary from Carina and looked for the next word. “Okay, Maya, how do you spell ‘bureaucracy’?” He slurred the word a bit but it was understandable.
The blonde closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose for a moment. She sighed and then took a deep breath as she prepared to speak. “B, U, R, E, A, U, C, R, A, C, Y.” She said in one go.
Everyone stared at her wide eyed.
“I can’t even remember how to write that while sober, how did she do it being this drunk?” The latina wondered out loud.
The blonde looked at her friend narrowing her eyes both because of the dim light and because she was trying to focus her sight, arching an eyebrow. “The brass’ favorite excuse when they don’t want to approve shit is ‘bureaucracy’.” She did air quotes with her fingers. “I have that word seared into my brain at this point. Now… drink.”
Everyone reached out for their shots but Carina accidentally tumbled hers over, spilling the tequila on the table. She started to chuckle and soon she was openly laughing. The firefighters imitated her a moment later, barely stopping to down their shots.
“Okay, okay, è il mio turno.” She said between laughs as she swung her legs off Maya’s lap to pour herself the shot she spilled.
Travis, who was still laughing too, assumed that she meant it was her turn and looked for another word. “Yes, okay, uh… how about… ‘connoisseur’.”
“Is that even in English?” Vic’s eyebrows knitted at the sound of that word.
“It’s right here!” Travis showed it to his best friend.
“Pfff, è facile.” The doctor smirked as she filled the shot glasses again, confident that she would get the word right and the others would have to drink. “C, O, N, N, O, I… S, S, E, U, R, connoisseur.” She proudly said, handing Maya her shot.
The blonde grabbed it, knowing she’d have to drink wether it was right or wrong, but she turned to Travis to find out. “Is she right?”
Both Travis and Vic chuckled, leaning to get their tequila. “You won’t be drinking alone this time.” The man said.
Maya turned to see Carina who was still smirking and brought the glass to her lips, drinking the liquid without breaking eye contact, even if she scrunched up her nose a bit. She closed the gap between them and pressed her mouth to Carina’s, grazing her bottom lip with her tongue. The Italian quickly parted her lips and immediately felt the taste of the liquor on her wife’s tongue as she caressed her own. Carina brought her hand to the back of the blonde’s head, deepening the kiss, but everyone around them started complaining and the couple had to pull away.
“My wife is so smart.” Maya muttered against Carina’s lips.
“Mine too.” The brunette replied, leaving a peck on her lips but not doing anything else for their friends to complain.
The game kept going for one more round –Carina speaking more and more in Italian as she kept drinking– until they ran out of tequila. The storm was starting to dissipate outside but it didn’t appear like the power would be back soon. Since no one was in conditions to drive, it was decided that Travis would take the couch while Andy and Vic shared the spare room. Travis had to help Carina practically drag Maya to their bedroom between jokes and giggles about the state the blonde was in since she was the one who drank the most.
They made the captain sit on the bed but she couldn’t keep her balance and fell backwards, exploding in giggles when her back hit the mattress. Carina started undoing her shoes and –once Travis was gone– unbutton her jeans.
“You wanna have your way with me, Carina?” The firefighter croaked with a drunken smile and closed eyes.
The brunette chuckled as she slid the garment down her wife’s legs. “I don’t think you can stay awake long enough for that, bella.”
“Prova mi.” Maya whispered and shuffled over on the bed so her legs were no longer hanging from the edge.
Carina knew nothing would happen, she herself was on the verge of sleep, but she removed her pants and shirt anyway and straddled her wife’s hips, leaving open-mouthed kisses on her neck and torso as she unbuttoned her flannel shirt. Once she was done with that, she trailed the way back up with her nose, only to find Maya sound asleep when she reached her face. The Italian laughed and planted a sweet kiss on her forehead before moving her around to get rid of her flannel, not bothering with being too gentle since it was unlikely Maya would wake up at the moment.
Since there was no power, meaning there was no air conditioner and they couldn’t open the windows due to the rain, Carina decided to stay in her underwear as well, placing the covers only over her legs. She turned to her side to look at Maya’s profile as she slept, lips slightly parted as a quiet snore coming from her lips as it usually happened when she drank too much.
“Ti amo tanto, bambina.” She said, resting her hand on the blonde’s stomach and her forehead on the other woman’s shoulder.
A whisper came from Maya’s lips a few seconds later. “I love you, too.”
