Chapter Text
His heart pounded under her hand as she dragged her short nails down his shoulder to rest across his bare chest. Her other arm looped around his neck to pull him close to her face to press her lips to his. Soft, plump and still slightly moist from the gloss that lingered on his lips from the last time they had shared their love not too long ago. Before he held his heart in his hands and grew uncharacteristically shy upon explaining to her his deepest wish. Something he yearned for but never had the courage to share out of fear of judgement and rejection. He knew he would be disappointed if she didn’t feel the same, but would respect her decision regardless and stay by her. When he told her that he longed for a family. One that they would create together, under the warmth and safety of their humble home, blessed by the light that once again shone over their roof. She was shocked at his words. His heart dropped into his stomach at hearing her gasp, and seeing the light tones of blush creep up her face. She was embarrassed and humiliated by him. He should have said nothing. He should never have made the suggestion. Ignis wished he could just turn back time and pretend it never happened.
What he didn’t expect though was for her to grasp his trembling, clenched hands in both of her smaller ones. Her thumb traced over the thin gold ring that sat comfortably on his finger. She looked up at him, her voice no more than a whisper as she said Ignis’s name and freed a hand to gently cup his cheek. “Is that what you were so scared of telling me?” Her laugh was quiet yet sounded like spun sugar and eased his nerves only a little bit. “Of course, my Love. I would love nothing more than to raise a family with you.” His eyes widened suddenly at her words. She… She wanted this as much as he did? He almost didn’t believe her. He remembered clearly in their youth, back when they were on the road to aide their Prince on his journey to Altissia, she had told him that while she enjoyed the company and laughter that came with children, she had no urge or desire to have her own. For her to change her mind after all of these years, it left Ignis speechless and eternally grateful that he would be able to share this experience with the woman that he treasured more than his own life.
With a wide, joyous smile on his face, he scooped her up in to his arms, spinning her around. A warm kiss pressed to her lips, and Ignis wasted not a second longer before carrying her off into the direction of their bedroom, her giggles echoing through their cozy home before Ignis closed the bedroom door behind them.
The couple smiled at each other sleepily, still catching their breaths but happy. Ignis reached over to grab the duvet and pulled it around his partner’s shoulders tenderly, before slipping under the covers as well down by her side, leaning on his elbow. His free hand brushing away a strand of hair from her face. “I love you so much.” He brought her hand to his lips, kissing her knuckles softly, making her laugh tiredly. “I hope it takes.”.
“Me too, My Heart. And if it doesn’t, we’ll just have to try again and again until it does.” She pressed herself closer to his body, the blanket slipping down their shoulders a bit as she buried her face into his chest, inhaling his comforting scent, while her hand unconsciously lowered to rest on her stomach, praying that the Gods would grant them this gift.
Ignis wrapped one arm around her back, holding her tight. His other hand joining hers on her stomach. The bespectacled man leaned his head down to press a kiss into her hair, before settling down by her side. They fell asleep together like that, holding each other tightly in a warm embrace. Hopeful and excited for the future.
