Work Text:
“Oh.” Jesper twirled his gun around in his fingers, standing outside of Kaz’s office. “There’s someone else I want you to meet.”
Someone else? Wylan thought that Kaz introduced him to everyone else already. “Who is it?”
“Milo. He’s so brave and sweet. He even managed to walk across the Fold all on his own. Can you believe that? Oh, and also he gives the best hugs.”
Jesper has a boyfriend already? There goes any opportunity to ask him out.
… Okay. Automatically assuming that they are dating based on that is jumping to conclusions. But even if they aren’t, it’s not that he ever had any chance to begin with. How could he stand up to a man who walked across the Fold without any protection? How can someone even survive that?
Inej deadpanned. “I don’t think it counts if you only pick him up and wrap your arms around him.”
Jesper bristled. “Hey! It was fully reciprocated!”
Huh? That’s an odd statement. How is that even possible? Wouldn’t Milo be able to hug him back? Is this Milo person a double amputee too? He imagined that would be the case if he walked across the Fold. Ugh, now he sounds even cooler. Fucking fantastic.
“Oh, I need to—” Jesper began.
“Not now,” Kaz cut him off, his cane slamming against the ground. “We have a lot to discuss.”
Wylan whirled around. Kaz stood there, scowling at the three present.
Inej nodded. “Yes, of course.”
“I’ll fetch the others,” Jesper said, rushing to the other side of the club.
Wylan walked alongside Inej into Kaz’s office, sitting in the chair next to hers in front of his desk.
“So what’s the situation?” Jesper asked, twirling his gun around. The others walked in as Jesper kicked the door part way shut.
“Well—” Kaz began before a loud bleat echoed throughout the room.
Wylan cocked his head around. A white goat, with black patches on their face, walked into the room. The goat walked up to Kaz, eating his trousers.
A goat? Why was there a goat in the middle of the Crow Club? How did they get in here?
“Kaz…?” Wylan hesitated. “There’s a… goat…Um...”
Jesper gave a heart chuckle. “Don’t worry about him. He’s friendly.”
Jesper waltzed up to the goat, leaning down.
“Bad…” Jesper scolded, shooing the goat away. “Leave Kaz alone.”
The goat stepped aside as if they were trained.
“Do you know them?” Why did he phrase it like that? That’s a goat for fuck’s sake.
“Yup,” Jesper said, reaching down and patting the animal’s head. “This boy here is Milo.”
Wylan tittered. That’s Milo. He was seriously jealous over a goat of all things?
Concern washed over his features. “Something’s wrong?”
“Uh…” Wylan stammered. “Nothing. I assure you.”
“Alright,” Jesper laughed it off. “If you say so, Wy.”
Wylan reached out, pausing midway. Wait. Can he pet him? Animals such as dogs sometimes don’t like it when strangers pet them. He imagined goats would be the same way, if not worse.
Jesper chuckled again, those cute dimples popping up on both sides of his mouth when he smiled. “Don’t worry about it. You can.”
Good enough for him, he supposed. Wylan scratched behind Milo’s chin and ears. Milo bleated.
“Aw, he likes you,” Jesper cooed. His eyes lit up. “In fact, here. You can hold him for a while.”
Jesper picked up the goat off of the ground, passing it to him. Wylan cradled the animal in his arms, petting his head. Maybe Milo isn’t all that bad. He’s kinda cute.
“Can we please move on with this?” Inej said.
“Yes, please.” Matthias added, arms crossed.
“Certainly,” Kaz said, rolling out a map onto the desk. “Now then…”
