Work Text:

"Do you ever think about having another one?" It comes out in a hushed whisper, breath warming the side of his neck as Lucy peers over his shoulder at the mess of bedtime hair, drool and Minnie Mouse footie pajamas curled into his chest. And it's just like Lucy to find something magical about two a.m. wake up calls from a bad dream, tears and snotty noses that he can't help but laugh a little.

"Lucy..."

She looks up at the humor in his voice, and there's wide eyed wonder staring straight back at him. A wonder just a touch reminiscent of her walk down the aisle on their wedding day and the moment in the delivery room when they put Ava on her chest that it steals his breath and he's pretty sure the world stops spinning for just a brief moment.

God, he's in trouble.

"Tim." A hand reaches out and fingers brush his cheek while the world starts to turn again. He blinks and finds her waiting for him to say something. "You went somewhere on me."

He smiles and runs a thumb over the cupid's bow of her lips and chases it with his mouth. "Sorry."

"You okay?"

"Yeah," he breathes out, and briefly glances down to check on Ava. He runs a hand down the back of her head, patting down her unruly hair, before he looks back at Lucy to find her smiling at them both with those same glittering eyes. "You are in a weird mood tonight."

"What?" She squawks, pushing into his shoulder, laughter bouncing off the end of her question, "what is that supposed to mean?"

One of his hands gestures towards her eyes, "you got all googly eyed on me."

"Googly eyed?" He nods, and her mouth falls further open. "Like the weird craft glue-on eyes that our daughter likes to put on everything?"

"Yeah," he confirms and then chooses to reassess the point he's trying to make when her face scrunches up and she looks half-way offended. "Okay, well no. But you are talking about babies and your eyes are all," his fingers wiggle in front of her face, "sparkly."

There's a beat of silence and a few soft giggles before she gently presses her lips against his shoulder. "You having fun comparing me to craft supplies?"

"Shut up," he huffs with no actual disdain behind it and rolls his eyes. "Can we just get back to the point?"

Lucy sighs and somehow seems to pull herself closer to him than she already was. There's a squeeze of his bicep as she wraps her arms around one of his own and one leg settles on top of his thighs, bending at the knee before she curls a foot into the calve of his sweat pants. Ava shifts below Tim's chin, turning her head and wiggling her feet at the sudden movement.

"I just," she takes a brief moment to collect her words, watching their daughter with close eyes to make sure she stays asleep, "I grew up an only child, and there were so many times that I wished I had a sibling. Someone to play with and argue with, and just someone I could relate to. I just want to give her the whole world, Tim. I don't want there to be any reason she resents us. I want her to have a good life."

Tim closes his eyes and rests his head against their headboard. When he speaks again, he says what they both know is true. "Babe, she already has a pretty damn good life."

"I know," she sighs, running a hand up his arm. She buries her nose against the top of his bicep, slightly muffling her words when she speaks again, "but don't you want more?"

And there's the wonder again, hanging on every word she says. Her head shifts against his arm and he looks down to see her staring back at him with all of the hope she can muster and he isn't sure how he could ever say no to her. He isn't sure that he wants to.

"Is that what you want?" Because he does want it. He would have proposed it right after Ava was born if he was an idiot and didn't think she would murder him in his sleep. She bites down on her lip and nods her head, the fabric of his t-shirt bunching up against her cheek. "Okay then."

It comes out so direct that it has her sitting up further in the bed, pushing off of him to get herself upright. She spins herself around on the mattress so fast the fabric of her nightshirt gets bunched up at the top of her thighs, but she's staring straight at him with a grin that reaches her eyes and crinkles them at the corners, and he can't seem to be distracted by much else. "Tim?"

The excitement is building in her voice, her body practically vibrating as she grabs on to his hand, squeezing his fingers. She looks like a 'pop goes the weasel' box ready to bust. "Yes, Lucy?"

"Are you saying yes? Like we are actually doing this?"

He laughs, and tugs on her hand, trying to pull her towards him. When she crawls closer, he reaches his hand out and pulls it through the hair that's fallen in front of her ear, cascading down her shoulder. "Yes, Lucy. Let's have another baby."

And there is a certain decibal level at which she squeals in excitement that is enough to probably wake their neighbors, much less their toddler that is laying on top of him and the dog laying in his bed in the corner of the room. Kojo snorts and huffs, and Ava starts grumbling as Lucy closes the distance between her and Tim, pressing a kiss to his mouth before dissolving into excited laughter.

"Daddy?" Ava whines, pushing herself off his chest with her hands. Lucy offers up a curse word and buries her face into Tim's neck. He can feel her breath on his skin as she tries to maintain her laughter. Ava looks up at them both and Tim is the brave one to stare back down at the grumpy toddler with a pout on her lips and lines on the side of her cheek from his t-shirt. She falls back into him with a dramatic huff, her hands in tiny balled up fists at her sides. "I'm leeping."

"I know, bug," he soothes, drawing circles on her back with his palm. "I know. Mommy just has a flare for the dramatics. She got a little too excited."

"Mommy?" Lucy slowly turns towards their daughter, her bottom lip still between her teeth as she unburies herself from Tim's neck. Oh and if looks could kill, Lucy would be mid myocardial infarction. Ava has a finger pointed at her, and her eyes, though closed, are squinted with what Tim and Lucy assume is the strongest glare she can manage. "Go leep!"

Lucy gives a weird faux bow from her place next to him, while Tim is the one that has his face buried into Lucy's hair hiding a grin. "Yes your royal highness."

Tim snorts in amusement and presses a kiss into Lucy's hairline. "I am going to escort her majesty to her sleeping quarters."

"Uh yeah, probably for the best." Lucy says, and drops a short but sweet kiss to his mouth before he maneuvers both himself and Ava off their mattress. Lucy watches them as they shuffle towards the door, Ava already finding sleep against his shoulder and Kojo quickly following behind. "Oh, one more thing!"

Tim turns around in the doorway, lifting a brow in curiosity. A mega watt smile breaks across Lucy's face, and her fingers clutch on to the white linen duvet--the only thing holding her down and keeping her from jumping on their bed as she whisper yells, "we're gonna have another baby, baby!"

He smiles and leans against the doorway as Ava let's out a little snore against his shoulder. Tim can feel that little bit of wonder stirring inside him and he's resigned to the fact that maybe there is some sort of magic in a 2 a.m. wake up call.

"We're gonna have another baby, baby."
