Chapter 1: Hook line and sinker

Chapter Text

it was a beautiful summer afternoon, The late July sun brought warmth to the wind and flowers into bloom. The sky had barely any clouds and there was no signs of it changing.

It was the perfect day to go fishing.

Yoongi had taken up the hobby recently. Finding the methodical tasks of setting up his fishing rod and casting the line to help remove himself from the stress of his daily life, allowing his mind to fully empty itself and let the sounds of gentle lapping waves fill the space loud thoughts once had. Out on his small boat in the middle of a large lake, yoongi truly feels calm and at peace.

This lake is a new spot, recommended to him by an old man in the local fishing gear shop. The elder had boosted of the large fish that could be found in the waters, but what caught Yoongi's attention was the location. Set deep in a mountain trail with little to no visitors to the area meaning that at any given point the lake would be completely silent. Yoongi didnt hesitate to track down this hidden gem.

The lake itself was pretty big spanning an impressive distance on each side once yoongi brought his boat to the waters edge. when looking across the still waters he almost felt like sky was connected, that if he rowed out far enough he'd be in the clouds before he'd reach the opposite sandbank.
Making sure he had everything set in the boat, hat and sunglasses securly in place he gave his last goodbyes to solid ground.

Rowing is by far the worst part to fishing. When Yoongi started out his arms would ache days after, now his muscles are used to the rhythmic moves. Back and forth the oars bring him further out, from the boat he can see the waters change from the clear waters of the banks to a rich emerald blue and with every stroke his mind becomes calmer. There is no deadlines or people here to distract him. Just him and the fish below.

Once he's deemed the boat to be far enough out theres a small beads of sweat forming on his hair line, the midsummer sun doing little to help him. Pulling in the oars he sets to work threading the fishing wire to the rod making sure that the tension and most importantly the hook is secure. With a deep breath in he pulls the rod back and a slow breath out he flicks his wrist forward, keeping his eyes forward to watch the hook fall onto the water with a satisfying 'plop'.

Minutes or hours pass like this, Yoongi steadily throwing the line out into the calm waters and waiting for the telltale tug, but hes yet to catch anything. He's beginning to wonder if that old man was telling the truth or if maybe Yoongi had found the wrong lake? He twists harshly on the reel to pull the line back to bait the fish, with each rotation he recounts the directions. "Take the second left off the main road." Still no catch. "keep going forward until you reach the turn for the old rail road." Not a single movement on the line. "After that take two rights and three lefts". The line starts to pull tight."Or was it three rights and two lefts??" The rod starts to pull away from his loose grip, finally a fish has been dumb enough to take the bait and with the way this line is pulling its a big one. Yoongi pulls on the rod up pushing everything into getting this fish on his boat, with one last twist of the reel and low grunt the catch breaks the surface and into the boat.

Yoongi expects to hear a loud slap of the fish hitting the small deck instead he hears an echoing smash.

Fish dont smash.

At Yoongi's feet there is the remains of a lidded clay pot. His hook firmly looped through a small handle. The pot pieces depict an intricate green vine design, almost like the plant was trying to hold the pot or what ever was once in it together. How strange. Stranger that the pot seemed to be empty, you would expect sand or even a few snails but the inner sides of the pot looked almost dry in the sun light.

"Pretty".

"Yeah." Yoongi agrees with the voice to his left, it would have been a pretty pot when it was made...

Wait.

Turning his head, yoongi is met with by far the most beautiful face he's ever seen. Which in most occasions Yoongi would welcome this attractive stranger. But how exactly did he get onto the boat? And did this guy just wink at him??

"What the fuck!? How did you get on my boat?!"

"Im glad you asked, The name is seokjin and you pretty boy, have just freed me."
