Everything Was Spoken In Their Smiles (Short)

Summary:

Mobius decides to take Loki to a traditional sweet shop (as he apparently hasn't had sweets/candy before) and so chaos ensues. There's a lot of fluff because they are very gay and very in love and that's all you need to know.
{Other than the fact that Mobius is a literal sugar daddy.}

Work Text:

The sun streamed through the open window to shine on Loki's sleeping face. One arm was resting behind his head and the other was flung across the bed, with his mouth hanging open. It was clear the god was in a deep sleep. But not for long.

Mobius stood in the doorway, looking from how he left the strewn duvet on his side of the bed, to staring at the mischievous scamp that was sprawled out and sleeping soundly.

"Wake up, sleepy head! I got a mission for ya!" He yelled, with a small smile stuck on his face.

Loki shot up as if an air horn had gone off beside him, his tousled bed-hair flipping into his sun-glistened face. "I'm sorry...if I could let you sleep in any longer, I would." The time agent continued.

The only response he received was a groan.

Mobius let out a chuckle. "Come on beautiful, let's go on a road trip."

"Earth." Loki scoffed in distaste. "Why Earth of all places?"

"I wanted to show you something." Mobius stepped off the pavement and strolled across the road for Loki to follow.

The god raised an eyebrow. "So this isn't a mission then?"

Mobius paused, but carried on walking. "It's a personal mission."

"...Right." Loki also had a second of silence, but it was a lot more impatient than his partner's. "Why can't you just tell me?"

"Because that ruins the whole point of a surprise!" He shook his head, smiling. "Just...wait and see."

A few more moments of walking went by, and Loki was sure that Mobius took him on a longer route to wind him up.

"My love," Loki started. "My dear, my darling, the light of my life--"

"Oh no, your Loki charms don't work on me, remember?" Mobius gave him a look and tried to hide a smirk that persistently crept onto his lips.

"Hmm. Then why are you dating me?" Loki retorted, with his own smirk that is there for the universe to see.

His partner looked him in the eyes, stepping nearer and lowering his voice into a hushed tone. "Because someone has to keep an eye on you."

The mischievous scamp turned red. Which only made Mobius smile widely.

"Oh I meant to ask, your majesty," The Time Agent laughed, "Do I have a God, a Goddess, or something in between today?"

Loki thought for a moment. Smiled.

"A God , I think."

Mobius gazed at him warmly . "Just thought I'd make sure."

His partner went to say something smug, as he always did, but Mobius cut him short, looking up to a bronze-edged shop sitting on the corner. The words 'Olde Sweet Shoppe' was written in cursive writing. "Looks like we're here."

Loki's eyes followed and set on the sign. He didn't feel disappointed, or particularly happy, he just felt...confused. "A sweet shop?"

"Not just any sweet shop. A traditional, old fashioned sweet shop. You said you've never had candy, right? Even as a kid? Well-" He held out his arms. "Now you get to try some."

The god let out a small gasp and turned to the kind-hearted man standing beside him. "Mobius, I don't know what to say…What I i don't like them?"

"Oh, I'm sure you will."  He nodded empathically, and pushed open the hazel wooden door.

Loki's eyes widened. He never knew Midgard could be so...exciting. Especially during the boring old 21st century. The shop interior was wide, with glass jars placed neatly on every dust-free shelf. Everywhere you looked there were multi coloured sweets and candies that seemed to glow in the beautiful weather. Loki couldn't think how this was all his for the taking. Well, buying . He had to follow rules now . Especially in front of Mobius.

His sea-coloured eyes were drawn towards a jar that held small round orbs of all colours of the rainbow. Loki couldn't wait. He took it from the shelf, and held it in one arm, and unscrewed the lid. The smell of sugar filled his nose as he reached a hand in and grabbed a couple of the orbs. But just before he could taste any, his partner called him harshly from across the room, and power walked over.

"What are you doing??!"

"...Trying sweets?"

Mobius scrambled to move the jar away from Loki, put back the lid, and place it on the shelf, safely away from the God of Mischief's hands; who looked disappointed at his failure in following stupid Midgardian rules, and therefore failing his best friend. "I'm sorry, Mobius, I-"

The time agent sighed, and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's okay. It's my fault, I didn't explain anything." A small smile rose on his face as he clapped his hands together. "So! What you do, is you bring a jar of candy to the counter," He pointed to the lady at a desk as shiny as the walls. "And then you ask for how much you want. Then you get to take it home and try it."

"Ohhh." Loki beamed, an understanding expression now on his face.

Mobius sunk into Loki's excited eyes, feeling relieved that he was liking the trip already. "And you know what, you can have anything you want. Go crazy." Then, in a hushed whisper. "Just don't eat anything." He winked. "Yet."

And like a giddy child, Loki was gone.

Then he was back. "Now, if you," He gestured at Mobius--who was trying to hold in his laughter-- with enthusiasm. "stand there, and I will pass the jars to you, and you can give the jars to the human at the till. Yes? Yes."

Before Mobius had a chance to say anything, or even react, Loki sped over and placed the large jar of assorted bon-bons in his arms with a grin. "Sorry about him," The less-giddy man told the store owner quietly as he placed the jar down before her. "He's a literal child."

He didn't need to say 'but I love him' . Everything was spoken through his eyes as he watched Loki race through the shop.

After about 7 jars were collected on the counter, the server wondered how long this would go on for. "How much do you want of all these?"

Mobius turned to her with an embarrassed chuckle. "Sorry, probably get 75g of each. That okay?"

The woman nodded, and started scooping the candy into small, golden paper bags, then weighed them one by one.

"MOBIUS! Let's get some of these!" The God of Mischief practically skidded across the floor, as he ran to hand his partner a jar full of giant gummy snakes. But just at the last second, it slid out of his hands, and the shatter of glass echoed through the walls.

Loki stared at the ground in shock. Mobius sighed. "And I'll get every gram of those…"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Every jar in the shop."
"Well I have to try everything, Mobius." Loki protested, pulling a giant haribo snake from the paper sack in his arms. "It's not my fault there was a lot there."
Mobius was carrying two supermarket shopping bags full of smaller, stacked bags of candy, and Loki insisted on trying every one as soon as they walked out of the store. But it didn't matter, because both their hearts lifted with every 'Mmm' the god made.
In his other hand, Loki had a bag of candyfloss which he now managed to rip open and dig into. In the shop, Mobius had to convince him that no, Midgardians could not imprison small clouds and colour them , and that yes, they were edible.
Another 'Mmm' followed.
"Told you it was edible." The man with the moustache chuckled, then looked to Loki and opened his mouth, gesturing for him to share.
Although the mischievous scamp was very protective of it all, he tore off a piece of candyfloss and placed it in Mobius' mouth, making them both smile.
If only moments like this could happen until the end of time. Neither of them said it, but the thought ran through their minds.
Everything was spoken in their smiles.
