Phoenix had already been through that song and dance once before, but he could see the tenacity in Larry's eyes.
Maybe tenacity wasn't the right word. Determination. Sorrow at his status of not getting younger. An empty nester, yet with no children of his own.
Sure, he was still a little immature, but he was passionate about everything he set his mind to.
Phoenix recalled Pearl staying under his wing, keeping each other safe and warm out there in the snow, and realized that Larry hadn't done that bad a job.
Maybe they could handle this.
