Astarion wondered if perhaps this was going to be the end. He knew he should feel something— anything if this was going to be how he died. Astarion reached to try and find an emotion; scared, angry, happy?
Astarion felt nothing. He wanted to run and hide to lick his wounds. He wanted to be free of this pain and agony.
He was so hungry and tired.
Maybe he would finally get his wish.
[Astarion was never picked up by the Nautiloid. When he is tasked to bring a new victim home, he ends up getting captured and taken prisoner. It is only a matter of time before Cazador starts looking for him-- he doesn't know what he should fear more.]

"A few days out from what used to be, and apparently was again, Nibelheim, Zack staggered out of a cave just before dark.
Behind him, a small pile of the monsters that’d been using it as a den slowly faded, their life forces seeping back into the planet.
“Alright, Cloud,” Zack said, hefting the Buster sword over his shoulder. “Time to hit the hay.”
He said it as much as himself as to Cloud, putting effort into it like that could convince his body to relax for once, though he knew it wouldn’t work."

Summary
Cold Fire is a collective alternate universe retelling of Final Fantasy VI that focuses heavily on Terra and Celes, the relationship between the two, and their relationships with everyone else. Of course, this alters a majority of the history and narrative of Final Fantasy VI. Consider it a "What if?" experiment. Not all FFVI characters exist in this AU, or they may appear in a form different than usual. Other game characters may make small cameos.
This list is mostly to show the preferred reading order as well as loosely explain how all instalments fit together.
