As the world collapses around her, a version of Aerith who does not come into contact with Cloud Strife instead encounters another man. A man from another world, who will eventually find out the terrible fate that awaits her, and will bend the laws of time, space and destiny to try and save her life.
This is a FF VII X Doctor Who project that crept into my mind that follows Aerith's travels with a depressed 11th Doctor. This follows a lot of the "destiny" related concepts that exist in both series and is honestly just an excuse to see some of these characters vibe together.

His body was heavy, drowsy, as if he had slept for far too long. How long was he asleep for? He could barely feel the hard pelt of rain on his skin as he wiggled his fingers, and then his toes. He couldn’t even see past the blurriness that seemed to be a permanent part of his eyesight.
“Cloud… please.”

Cloud didn't remember mostly anything. that did not stop him from fighting Rufus on the roof, but Rufus, somehow, manages to best him. Cloud, taken back into the building, is now under Rufus' control. Tifa and Barret do their best to come up with a plan to get him back, but when they manage it, will Cloud even want to return with them?
Painful revelations are brought about as Cloud remains with Rufus, Tseng begins to grow on him, and he is no longer sure what he should and should not believe. He is forced to question a lot, including what he knew about himself, and Shinra, particularly the younger one. There is a rather large chance Cloud will decide to forego returning to help Avalanche the longer they struggle to try and figure out how to rescue him, but will Sephiroth let his little puppet go?

Doing over is something people probably are glad about. At least the first time. Reliving your life countless times on the other hand chips away at your sanity, as Cloud would attest.

He is still surrounded by that Life-Stream-green, but everything is different now. Where before there was calm, now there is chaos. Where before there was numbness, now there is pain. Where before there was death, now there is life. He chokes, breathing in the liquid Life-Stream but it isn’t Life-Stream, it burns instead of soothes, he can taste that it is tainted, not pure.
His eyes open to a scene from his nightmares. His memories are patchy at best but this-this took up far too much of his life to be forgotten completely. He doesn’t remember details exactly, but if he did it would be this.
