Cloud is a full-time student, part-time employee at Seventh Heaven. He's wrapped up in grieving the death of his mom, even after so many years, not wanting to move on and forget her. On the 9th anniversary of her death he buys her flowers. He does every year, but this year he chooses a flower shop close by. They keep running into each other - or, more accurately, Aerith keeps noticing him and going out of her way to say hello. Cloud can never turn down a conversation, even though he's not much of a talker. He never found himself very friendly, but she seems to think more of him.

He knew that his life was full of blessings, privilege, and comforts that most others did not receive. He felt trapped, like there was a small box to fit inside of, and he didn't feel he fit. He begins with small ventures outside of expectations set for him.
Zack is a castle guard, promoted through the ranks since he was a teenager. Now a young man, in a position he was proud of, he did everything he could to maintain it. He was good at every aspect, except keeping to himself. He loved to talk, to interact with those around him. He had a hard time keeping his mouth shut at the best of times.
So when the princess crosses his path, and there's something Zack deems worth saying, he speaks directly to her.

Cloud didn't remember mostly anything. that did not stop him from fighting Rufus on the roof, but Rufus, somehow, manages to best him. Cloud, taken back into the building, is now under Rufus' control. Tifa and Barret do their best to come up with a plan to get him back, but when they manage it, will Cloud even want to return with them?
Painful revelations are brought about as Cloud remains with Rufus, Tseng begins to grow on him, and he is no longer sure what he should and should not believe. He is forced to question a lot, including what he knew about himself, and Shinra, particularly the younger one. There is a rather large chance Cloud will decide to forego returning to help Avalanche the longer they struggle to try and figure out how to rescue him, but will Sephiroth let his little puppet go?
