Chapter Text

Y/N’s POV:

Connor, the RK800 android and the only android detective, arrived in DPD to help them with deviant-related crimes three months ago. He was partnered up with Lieutenant Hank Anderson. His mission was to arrest all deviants and bring them to Cyberlife to find the solution for their ‘errors.’

Well, that’s who he was back then. Things have changed. The peaceful android revolution led by Markus happened which resulted in many changes in Detroit as well as in the world.

Connor is now known as one of the leaders of Jericho. He still works in DPD and is still partnered up with Hank. Surprisingly, he befriended everyone in the station even the most complex people like Gavin and Nines.

Oh, did I say he’s friends with everyone? Well, except for me, I guess. It’s not like I hate androids. I do love them actually. Even before the revolution, I’m on their side.

I really wanted to befriend Connor since the first time he went to the station. It’s just I don’t get to talk to him because it was either he’s busy or it was me who’s busy. Since I’m a part of the Red Ice Task Force, I spent most of my time outside the station.

All I can do is to stare at him from afar and fantasize about him. It’s very hard not to be able to talk to the person you have feelings for.

And with that being said, I’m now in the sitting in my chair while typing my report on the computer. I would steal a glance at Connor every now and then while not trying to get caught.

He’s smiling. They’re probably doing a great job in their investigation. That’s good. I’m happy for them.

“Y/N! In my office!” Fowler’s voice echoed in the station which made me almost fall out of my chair in surprise.

I turned off my computer before making my way towards the captain’s office.

After entering, I closed the door behind me. I walked until I was standing in front of the captain’s table, “Hello, Fowler!”

Fowler sent me a friendly smile, “Good morning, Y/N.”

I thought of the possible reasons why Fowler sent me here but I couldn’t think of anything. I asked, “Is there a reason why I’m here, Captain?”

He leaned back at his chair, “You’ve been an outstanding detective for three years now. You’ve done a lot of great things for this station. You’ve also replaced Hank as the leader of the Red Ice Task Force in your first year of service. And with that, we’ve decided to put you on the next level.” He opened his drawer to look for something.

I tilted my head in confusion. What does he mean by that?

He placed something on his table. It was a badge. “Congratulations, Lieutenant Y/N L/N! You deserve it.”

I hesitantly looked at the smiling captain in front of me, “I… I don’t know if I would accept this, Fowler. I think it’s too early for this. I still need more experience.”

I pointed outside his office, “I think there are people in this station that are more deserving—”

He laughed, “Humble as always, Y/N. Don’t worry, we’ve talked about this.”

“Oh yeah, you also mentioned earlier that someone also decided to promote me.”

“The members of the task force personally talked to me about your performance and the reasons why you should be promoted. Hank also convinced me of it. Their points were all correct.” Fowler explained.

I crossed my arms in front of me as I smiled knowingly, “I don’t have much of a choice, do I?”

“Nope.” I laughed at this before thanking him and returning back my detective badge to accept the other badge.

He cleared his throat, “As much as I want to celebrate your promotion, there’s an assignment for you.”

He gave me the folder that was lying on his table. I opened it to read it for a while before listening to Fowler, “The crimes related in red ice are increasing in New York as we speak. The NYPD has a task force just like us but they need more help. Their captain personally requested me to let you help them with the investigations. But of course, I still need your consent for it.”

Fowler looked outside his office, making me look outside as well. The people in the station were staring at the seven people standing just outside the office. They were wearing NYPD’s uniform. I can see that they are waiting for me.

The captain looked back at me, “The NYPD officers outside will bring you to New York right now and will explain the details along the way.”

I glanced back at the folder before thinking. There are 213 cases related to red ice in New York. With that scale, solving all of them might take a year or so. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to finish it for at least 9 months.

This means that I’ll be away for a very long time. I won’t be able to talk to my friends. Most importantly, I won’t be able to see Connor. The chances of being friends with him might disappear. My feelings towards him will be left unsaid then.

I felt my chest tightened at this. Well, Fowler did say that I really don’t have to do this. I can just stay here and continue on with my life here.

But is it really okay to set aside the idea of helping people to fulfill my selfish desires?

The captain must’ve noticed that I wasn’t reacting nor saying anything so he spoke up, “Y/N, you don’t have to do this. I can just tell them that you’re busy and—”

I slid my hands in the pockets of my pants as I smiled at him, “I’ll do it, Fowler. It’s our duty to serve people anyways.”

He stared at me for a while to check if I was lying before smiling, “Good luck then, lieutenant.”

I should accept the fact that I have no chance of Connor. If I ever do have a chance on him, then we would’ve talked by now. But no. I’ll work in the NYPD for a while and see what I can do from there once I return back.
