Antics & Semantics

Summary:

“Jeon Jungkook, stop terrorizing your hyungs or I will call your brother,” Namjoon sighed, glaring lightheartedly at the youngest.

Jungkook pouted. “I’m not terrorizing.”

Taehyung poked his puffed-up cheek. “You are just a little.”

(Or, alternatively, Min Yoongi just wants to sleep, not listen to two teenagers argue at 11 AM.)

Notes:

I decided to cross-post this from my Twitter after editing it a bit :)

This is also a mini gift to Cherry, sorry I didn’t finish that one WIP I wanted to for you but happy birthday if you see this uwu

I posted an angst Taekook work as well today, and I also decided to edit and add some new dialogue/plot to St(r)ay! So go check those out if you’d like!

Work Text:

Taehyung had always gotten along well with others. He made new friends pretty easily. But he found that only a handful of people seemed to really click just right with him.

And Jungkook was one of those.

The boy was a little shy at times, a little uncertain, but once you looked past that and Jungkook got more comfortable, you would find he was also a giant brat, a dork, an angel, and everything in between.

Jeon Jungkook was just... fun. Taehyung enjoyed hanging around the younger supernatural, listening to him ramble about whatever video game or class that had him going. Taehyung didn’t mind it; Jungkook had listened attentively to him complaining about magic and whatnot more than once.

Becoming close friends quickly, in addition to two of their hyungs dating, led to situations like this — Taehyung coming out of his room at eleven in the morning, rubbing his eyes sleepily, to find Jungkook perched on the couch like he lived there, eyes hard and focused on the TV screen and a game controller in his hands.

“Hi, Kookie,” he yawned, coming to stand beside the couch. “What’re you playing?”

“I forgot the name, Seokjin-hyung put it in to make me shut up,” the younger mumbled back, tapping the buttons rapidly. “Wendigo Hill or somethin’ like that. He doesn’t like horror games, I have no idea why he even has…”

Taehyung scratched at his neck as he listened, peering against the bit of glare on the screen. He startled at the sight of a big, furry creature with deer antlers and very non-herbivore-like teeth hurtling itself out of the dark at the main character. Jungkook made an endearing squeak as he tried and failed to dodge it, deflating at the bloody ‘Game Over!’ message that flooded the screen.

“Good try,” Taehyung consoled him, patting his head, laughing softly at his pout. “That’s not even a wendigo, though.”

Jungkook blinked at him. “...Yes it is?”

Ah. Right. Jungkook’s family were all human.

“It’s not,” he explained. “Wendigos are, like, borderline human. Sickly skin, gaunt, look emaciated, that kind of thing.”

Jungkook gestured wildly at the screen. “Well, then what was that?”

The young witch shrugged, dropping down onto the couch beside him. “People just stole the name ‘wendigo’ and put it on those deer things. They don’t have a real name themselves. Maybe you shouldn’t say it, and that’s why no one knows!”

“Like skin-walkers?” Jungkook questioned.

Taehyung startled, smacking his arm with a quickness. “Jungkook! Don’t say it!”

“We’re in a whole different country! It’s not even our culture!”

“That doesn’t mean it can’t affect us, we don’t know how that voodoo shit works!” Taehyung hissed.

Jungkook slapped his arm back. “That’s offensive. Voodoo isn’t all evil stuff, it’s a religion.”

“I know that?”

“Then don’t say ‘voodoo shit’!”

“I didn’t mean anything by it—“

“Boys,” a voice drawled from the hallway. When they looked up, Yoongi was leaning against the hallway wall, a brow raised. “Some of us prefer to sleep during the day, you know.”

Jungkook shot up on his knees. “Taehyungie was being offensive!”

The young witch whipped his head to stare at him incredulously. “Not on purpose!

“Doesn’t matter!”

“Kookie, that’s not how it works!”

“Does too!”

You were being mean when you called me Green Skin last week!”

Jungkook scoffed. “You were wearing a facial mask!”

Doesn’t matter!” Taehyung mocked him.

The door to Seokjin’s room opened. “Boys,” Namjoon called chidingly from the doorway, giving them a stern look. “I believe Yoongi-hyung asked you settle down, not get louder.”

Taehyung slouched in his seat. “Sorry, Hyung.”

Jungkook crossed his arms. “Taehyungie started it.”

He glared at him, affronted. “Yah, I only corrected you! And use honorifics, you brat.”

“You let me call you ‘Taetae’ yesterday, why do I have to be formal now?”

“I’m mad at you right now.”

“Hyung!”

Yoongi groaned. The vampire thumped his head against the wall. “I will shove you both in Seokjin’s cauldron.”

“Our voices will just echo more there,” Jungkook chirped without missing a beat.

“Not if I fucking seal it shut.”

“Language, Hyung.”

“You cursed not even three full minutes ago, brat—“

“Yeah, but—“

“Jeon Jungkook, stop terrorizing your hyungs or I will call your brother,” Namjoon sighed, glaring lightheartedly at the youngest.

Jungkook pouted. “I’m not terrorizing.”

Taehyung poked his puffed-up cheek. “You are just a little.”

“Am not!”

Yoongi shook his head, spinning on his heel and heading back down the hallway. “I hate both of you.”

“You love us!” Taehyung called after him.

Rolling his eyes, Namjoon ducked back into Seokjin’s room, leaving the two of them alone.

They sat in silence for a solid minute or so. Taehyung watched Jungkook fiddle with the joystick of his controller, pouting at being scolded.

He patted the younger’s knee. “Have you ate?”

“No.” Jungkook shook his head.

The witch tapped his nose, climbing to his feet. “You play, and I’ll make food.”

“Don’t burn the kitchen down, please.”

Excuse you,” Taehyung scoffed and flicked the back of his head. “At least I wasn’t the literal weasel that made of a mess of the spice cabinet. Seokjin-hyung sneezed for days.”

Jungkook whined. “I couldn’t get out, Hyung!”

Taehyung stopped his search through the pantry and fixed the younger with a blank stare.

“Taehyungie,” he corrected softly.

Jungkook immediately perked up. If he looked a little relieved, Taehyung didn’t call him out on it. “Taehyungie.”

Taehyung turned back to the shelves, shaking his head but unable to help his smile.

Maknaes.
