Work Text:

The night was wild, and adrenaline was rushing through Marnie’s veins as she drummed along to whatever riffs Piers was slamming from his guitar. They were nearing the end of their set now, with only two songs left to play, and the crowd was going insane.

Tossing one of her drumsticks into the air, Marnie caught it smoothly with a flourish; she was a skilled drummer (one of her few hidden talents), and the crowd was impressed. She watched Piers closely to make sure she wasn't missing any cues.

As they came to the end of their next to last song, Piers shouldered his guitar and reached for the mic, capturing the crowd’s attention. “How’s everybody doin’ tonight?” When the stadium erupted with screams, he grinned. “Thanks so much for comin’ out!” He paused for another second until the crowd became quiet again. “I'd like to give a big shoutout to my lil sister, Marnie, for playin’ with me tonight! She's a rockin’ drummer, yeah?”

The crowd whooped loudly at that, and Marnie fought back a blush.

“But besides all that, Marn over here is Spikemuth’s newest Gym Leader!” Piers announced with a grin. “So make sure you guys keep an eye out! She's gonna be a way better Gym Leader than I ever was.” He pumped a fist in the air. “This last song is dedicated to my baby sister. Marn, you've made me prouder than I ever thought I could be over the past few years. I can't wait to see where life takes you, but know that your big brother’s always here, waitin’ to hear from you and cheerin' you on. Love ya.”

As Piers launched into his final song, Marnie became overwhelmed with emotion, drumsticks clattering against the stage as she listened. The song wasn't too long, but each riff and chord Piers played and every note he sang hit different, especially while knowing that it was all written with her in mind.

Once he reached the end of his song, Piers announced that he was planning to go on an international tour within the next year and thanked everyone who heard him play that night. Then, he said goodnight and sent the crowd off, pulling Marnie backstage.

“Heya, Marn,” Piers greeted, ruffling her hair. “Way to go, kid. That show was well played.”

Marnie looked up at him, bottom lip trembling, before she threw her arms around his waist. “I don't wanna see you go, but your playin’ deserves to be heard around the world.”

Gently stroking her hair and hugging her tight, Piers promised, “I'll call whenever you want, and I know that you'll be havin' loads of fun while leadin’ the Gym.” He smiled. “I meant what I said about cheerin’ you on and waitin’ to hear from you, Marn.”

“I think I'll be okay on my own,” Marnie admitted slowly, arms still wrapped around her brother. “As long as you promise to be only a call away.”

Piers patted her back. “Promise.”
