Work Text:
Izuku remembers this day like yesterday, how he woke up in an unknown place full of myths. It was the same myths he believed as a child and, for some reason, were here. The mermaid, dragons, and even witches were something familiar, and for a moment, Izuku thought it was a good dream.
It took him months to realize the dream was real. The injuries on his body and the village were too realistic to be something created from his mind. He wanted to return home before he made mistakes…but on his way, he met some friends and started enjoying life here.
It’s been years since Izuku was transported Into this fantasy world. It was supposed to be a casual day where he would go to the marketplace. He walked too fast on his way and touched a stranger’s shoulder.
“I'm sorry, I didn’t see you-”
Izuku turned around, ready to apologize to the stranger, before feeling his heart stop. His eyes looked at the man in front of him. He was tall, with beautiful blond hair, piercing iris-red eyes, and a breathtaking gaze. His body was full of scars, probably a soldier coming from the war.
It took them one second, but the time stopped, and it was only them, straight in the eyes. Izuku never believed in love at first sight until today, especially lost in this mysterious world of secrets to discover. Katsuki found himself mesmerized by the stranger by his side. He never saw anyone like him before, and yet, for some reason, he knew something was particular with him. The blond broke the silence between them.
” Who are you?” He asked. If a gaze could kill, izuku would already be dead. Izuku came to his senses, not letting himself walk on by a random *hot* stranger.
Izuku had to lie; if he wanted to survive, it was his only option. After all, he can’t say, “I’m from another world, and I was transported here for years without any reason. I don’t want to go home because I was attached to this place and especially now I’ve met someone like you.”….absolutely not.
“Oh,” Izuku glanced around, but none of his friends were there to help him. “My mother moved here months ago.”
“I never saw you here before because I wouldn’t forget someone pretty like you, sweetheart.”
Izuku rolled his eyes; even if the other’s flirt affected him, he would’ve played the unreachable person because it was his only way out. “Are you flirting with every guy you meet? Because I’m sure, your wife must be disappointed to have a husband like you.”
The blond smiled, and Izuku’s heart missed a beat. Who gave him the right to be this hot? It was a crime against humanity and his heart.
“Sorry to disappoint you. I don’t need anyone, but it can change if you tell me more about you.”
“My name is Izuku, Izuku midoriya.”
“Nice to meet you, freckles. I’m the king of this kingdom, katsuki bakugo.”
“Kin…king ?! ” Izuku was stunned. He thought he was talking with a stranger until now to face the king since the beginning ?! Oh no, he felt ashamed now. At this point, he could find any country and move away.
His eyes glanced around him, and indeed, there were four persons next to him: an average man with dark hair, another with yellow hairs like lightning, a girl with pink skin and pink chewing gum, and a beefy boy with red hair in spades.
“I’m so sorry, your majesty, I thought you-”
Katsuki smirked, “There’s no majesty here. Everyone calls me katsuki…unless you want me to call you by another name”
Izuku blushed, ignoring how the deep voice was making him red, and hopefully, the awkward situation ended up being solved by one of the blond’s friends.
“Kats !” Kirishima sighed. “Sorry to disturb your flirt with the freckled guy you just met but let me remind you how there are still people waiting for a meeting.”
“Shut up, shitty hair !” The blond answered, making Izuku sketch a hidden smile.
“Dude….” Kaminari said, “You ran away.”
“Tch, whatever” he rolled his eyes, only to find the green emerald eyes looking at him with surprise. In a hesitant moment, once the extras were out of sight, he decided to make the first move. Izuku’s eyes widened when he saw how the king started to take his hands and kiss his knuckles, making him blush harder. “Sorry, unfortunately, I still have shit to do, but maybe we could meet again, freckled ?”
“Alright,” Izuku decided to play his game. After all, it was a one-time thing, and they would never meet again, right? “But you need to find me first.”
On those words, the blond left with a smile. Izuku sighed, he didn’t know what he just did, and all eyes were on him. If only he knew how this single decision changed his entire life.
Indeed, Katsuki was the one to find him first. Multiple times, they both tried to set an actual meeting where they could take time to learn more about each other and not about the flirty king and awkward freckled man. Their conversations only lasted a few minutes, but Izuku realized he had lost himself in this game. Now, every time the blond complimented him or whispered something to his ear, his heart missed a beat and nearly stopped. Their relationship worked with time, trust, tears, laughs, and smiles, but they knew it was too late. It was love at first sight, and they both broke the boundaries, shaking one innocent kiss during a weak moment and being addicted to each other.
The two strangers who now became lovers were about to reach an essential step in their life….they were getting married.
Their wedding was unique, and everything was perfect: the music, the atmosphere, the tradition, the clothes, and the person standing by their side on the altar. They both said “I do" during a summer afternoon, under the stars and the fresh evening air that had come to tickle their faces with katsuki's hands on izuku's cheeks, coming closer to him and kissing him tenderly, taking advantage of the moment to appreciate the sweetness and tenderness of those pupils who did not want to let go.
Izuku knew he had a reason to stay now. In the past he was trying to reach home as soon as possible, now he wanted to stay. He had nothing to believe in his world but in this place. He had a place he could finally call “Home.”
The green emerald eyes turned around to meet his husband’s face, the one he said “yes” for eternal life and the stranger flirting with him at first.
“There’s a lot of things I want to say, but there’s only one I could express.” His hands cupped the blond’s cheeks, and he smiled. “Thank you. Thank you for making me the happiest man., kacchan. You are now a part of my life until the end.”
———
Izuku had everything to be happy, a lovely husband and supportive friends; the population loved him, and everyone, including the kids, loved him. Every time it was the same thing; their face revealed a bright smile during his meeting at the hospital before hearing the freckled man’s comforting words. At this point, he was an inspiration and a model for everyone; even Katsuki’s friends were surprised to see how he found someone so sweet.
He could only answer with a “Shut up, idiots” and glance at the familiar sight. He knew he had found the one when he saw the green eyes looking at him tenderly while hugging a few children. If the home had a name, it’d be Izuku Midoriya.
But fate decided otherwise.
Unfortunately, reality always catches up with us, and we cannot avoid it. At this moment, izuku understood it was time to return to his reality and world. He doesn’t want to leave this world, this place, this happiness, and especially kacchan.
Symptoms started appearing the previous days, and Izuku saw his body slowly degrade. Time was running out.
Izuku enjoyed each moment, each laugh, each smile, and he wanted his husband’s soft touches and words every night, hearing the casual and still comforting “goodnight Deku.” His chest kept reminding him that all of this was temporary, and it was a question of time before he would be gone forever. The world didn’t need to know; they needed to remember the caring and welcoming part of him. That’s why he was always in a good mood and never changed his habits, thinking no one would notice.
Indeed, someone notices it. Katsuki knew something was terrible. He was worried about the freckled man, all those years together, and he could read into him as a book. Katsuki knew when Izuku was making a fake smile or hiding his tears…which was what he was doing now.
The dinner was colder than usual, almost like time had stopped in this place, and no one dared to speak. At this point, the pain in Izuku’s chest was unbearable, so he had to keep his tears; he couldn’t cry here. He always had a moment for himself; every night before sleeping, he waited for his husband to come, and it was the right moment to express himself. When the country’s economy occupied Katsuki, Izuku was tearing up and thinking about how unfair this was. He had no answer about how he came here or why, but returning to his world without Katsuki didn’t make sense now.
Only a few minutes later, the blond reached their room and saw it. He wanted to surprise him and come to bed earlier; taking care of the man he loved was important to him, and his heart broke when he saw him—Izuku’s teary eyes and how he was surprised to find the blond so early.
Katsuki’s body moved on its own. At this moment, he could only think of reaching his lover and holding him. He changed a lot since his meeting with the freckled man, which was for the best; Izuku made him a better man and needed to give him a run for his money.
Still in shock, Izuku let himself do when the blond wrapped his arms around him, hugging him as tight as possible to reassure him. His head found his chest, his scarred hands holding his neck like he was scared to let him go. The tears couldn’t stop; the sobs could almost cover the pain in his chest to know that all of this would be gone soon.
“Deku,” the blond’s hands came to cup his freckled cheeks. Izuku’s hand left the other’s back to be intertwined with the other. “What happened? You look like shit the entire dinner, and you’re distant recently. Don’t lie to me, and I know there’s something I can d-”
“It’s time, kacchan. I have to go.”
Katsuki’s face turned pale, unable to describe the thoughts that came to his mind. They promised to be here for each other, never separated by anything and his time. They were wrong when their enemy was something stronger than everything they faced until now because it was the time.
Katsuki knew Izuku’s story, the truth about his reality, and he had to lie to stay alive. The freckled man told him on their wedding night, and the blond understood and supported him, but today would have wished that all of this was a lie. I hoped that his happiness would not disappear before the eyes of minute to minute, unable to do anything about it, the laws of nature were too strong, and we couldn't challenge them, even in our despair.
“Idiot,” the blond whispered with a shaking voice, holding the other like there was no tomorrow. “Why you never tell me you were dying? If I knew, maybe I would-”
“It’s alright, kacchan,” Izuku comforted him with a tiny smile. “I didn’t want to worry you; I would be a bad husband if I created more trouble for the king.”
Katsuki put him closer, letting the other’s head find his chest and listen to each heartbeat.
“Fuck” Katsuki confessed, to the point of nearly breaking down. “What did I tell you? You’ll never be a bother, freckles.”
Izuku, still against his chest, put his hands behind his back and squeezed him as tight as he could, unable to let go, to let go of his source of happiness. He was the person who had made him happy so far, and until now, at the end of this adventure, he said to himself that if he let go, everything would suddenly disappear, and he still wanted to enjoy those moments with him. He still had so much to live, to share, kisses and hugs to catch up on, unique moments and laughter because Denki had tried to cook the meat again but burnt part of the roof, so much.
No, Izuku doesn’t want any of this. He could fight until the end for himself, kacchan, and their happiness.
He could stay until the end to resist. To survive in this world with Katsuki’s help
to ruffle his green hair, support him, make him laugh, cheer him up, count all the freckles on his face, kiss him every morning, and say “love you” when he is proud of him.
After a few minutes, the two got up and looked each other straight in the eyes without a word. One gaze was enough to understand their pain, sadness, and recognition.
“Deku”
Izuku wiped away a few remaining tears and listened to his husband’s shaking voice. His hands were reaching out as his hands stroked his soft, freckled cheeks.
“Kacchan”
Izuku wanted to continue, but Katsuki cut him off. “Listen, I don't know what we did to fate and why he acts like shit, but I know one thing, uncertainty in our misfortune brought us together. We were able to find each other and live our story.
It was the best year of my life. You gave me so much hope, and before you arrived, it might be silly, but I never thought I’d find happiness one day; you appeared that day and changed my life. I regret nothing until now, I enjoyed every moment we spent together, and you don’t have to be fake here, especially in front of me. I love you the way you are, and I would change that for nothing. Nothing in the world will make me change my mind, and even if something gets in our way, we will always find each other no matter what,” finished Katsuki while creating a soft kiss on his forehead.
Izuku, who was calm, breathed and enjoyed every second with him. He came closer to katsuki and whispered in his ear, “Thanks, kacchan. Thanks for everything, everything you gave me, even moments that I will never forget” he took a break. “I love you, and I will always love you.”
After this conversation, they were both lying on the bed together, cuddling each other, making a soft kiss on his face and his neck, hugging him tightly, and they both fell asleep in each other arms; with their warmth and close, they saw Izuku crying hot tears. Katsuki moved closer and wrapped his arms around him, hugging him as tight as possible to reassure him.
“Goodnight, deku”
Izuku opened his eyes the next day and noticed he was crying. His eyes recognized the familiar room, the sale one he left years ago, and much to his disappointment… it was his room in Tokyo. Finally, he was back at “home”; the dream was over.
“Izuku honey, your breakfast is ready!” Inko called him, and the freckled man knew nothing would be the same again.
Somewhere, a legend circulated in Katsuki’s kingdom. Apparently, after the sudden disappearance of his husband Izuku, the blond kept a memory, a particular object of his beloved. Some people even said on full moon evenings that the king leaned over his balcony to admire the stars and said the exact words every year: “Happy wedding anniversary Deku.”
—
After a long work day, Izuku came home tired and fell asleep.
He opens his eyes slowly and finds a familiar world he knows well. Without thinking, he runs into the village, asking the population if they know where Katsuki is, and he finds him.
He saw him a little further away, in a lost garden with flowers everywhere. He can’t explain, but it was Izuku’s favorite, and each year Katsuki used to offer them for their wedding anniversary to prove his love.
Izuku was stunned. How many times has it been since he left this world? Way too long to count. People were surprised to find him again, but there was only one person he wanted to see, the same one he couldn’t help but think about every day since they were separated.
“Kacchan,” his voice broke into a sob.
His heart was beating so fast it could almost leave his chest because the overwhelming joy was too much for one person. When their eyes met, time stopped, and they both had a deja vu.
“Deku?” Katsuki asked with a small and broken voice. The blond’s heart stopped when he heard the familiar voice he listened to every night in his dream. “Are you- shit, It’s you? You’re not an illusion?”
Without thinking, Izuku’s body moved on its own, running toward the blond and sweeping everything in its path to achieving its objective: Katsuki.
The freckled man jumps into his arms, which makes the other fall on his back. In the field, the wind reached his face, feeling how real it was. Katsuki glanced at him in admiration, and Izuku, with tears in his eyes, bent over him.
“Kacchan, I missed you so much.” He whispered between two sobs, feeling the warmth he had missed all this time.
“Wait- how and-“
Izuku laughed, realizing he missed the blond’s voice. “It didn’t matter, now I’m back, and I’ll stay.”
Katsuki was stunned, he had so many questions, but one reached his mind. “How…how could you be so sure you’re gonna stay ?”
The freckled man smiled. His scarred hands, which have more scars now, cupped his husband’s cheeks. “Because I know how to reach you. If meeting you is a fever dream, then I’m ready to fall asleep my entire life.“
Katsuki felt the wet tears on his back but won’t complain. Instead, he hugged him softly, and they both cried; katsuki said to himself no matter what happened, they always found each other.
“Welcome home, freckles.”
[End]
