Work Text:
Izuku Midoriya had never been the kind of person to hang out easily.
His anxiety could be the only excuse to blame, due to his overthinking, he would see his life pass him by like the memories he could have created around a campfire with his friends during the summer holidays. However, it was only after graduating that the freckled man allowed himself risks, guiding him gradually toward the destiny that was intended for him. The evenings of celebration after each significant event in his life and that of his loved ones were an opportunity to change his mind.
In their youth, the shadows had crossed those streets more than once, often returning with the influence of alcohol, alone or accompanied by an unknown whom they would forget the next day. More crimes were committed in those nightclubs than in the streets of the city if the cases of deception and senseless fighting were taken into account in the list. Izuku had nothing exciting in his life: a job capable of making him pay his monthly income, friends at his side, and a boyfriend who seemed to satisfy him in all aspects of their relationship.
Unfortunately, doubts have been growing in recent months. This constant attention steals those sweet words had attracted the curiosity of the young man, guiding him to a sad discovery. Without further ado, that same evening, Izuku had confronted the man trying to have the final word of the story...to Terrminer with a raised voice, ordering him not to return to his life. After minutes of tears that seemed endless, Izuku decided to regain control. If his asshole ex seemed to be having fun somewhere else, why couldn’t he taste that risk for one night?
From the moment his shadow had entered the box, he no longer thought for himself. The only reason that had guided him in this risk-taking was the desire for revenge. His body swears only by his emotions, his broken heart cursing a name he wanted to forget and his mouth spreading beautiful lies to strangers. That night, he didn’t count the number of drinks he had and also accepted the first person who hit on him. The rest of the night stayed in blurry memories for him, but he woke up in a stranger’s bed and left in the early morning.
The freckled man hated himself for being this vulnerable, without realizing how the hangover wouldn’t be the only consequence of his actions. If he tried to fix his life for the next months, he caught himself being surprised at his first-morning sickness. The answer was under his eyes when the pregnancy test revealed itself as positive, changing the path of his life in an unexpected turn. Don’t get him wrong, the freckled man had always been the kind of person who could be a great parent, but this unplanned pregnancy was scarring him.
He only learned to accept how he wasn’t distant anymore from the idea of raising another human, despite the financial consequences that this would require and overtime in his current job. It had never been an easy thing for a male omega to face a complete situation like this one without any mate or alpha by his side, but Izuku was fine by himself. He had his loved one’s love from the start to the moment he reached the labor room.
It happened in a few minutes, but all his worries faded away the moment he held his newborn. The rumors about the authenticity of this moment were founded because the bond between the sweaty omega and the crying pup was immediate. The tiny girl was his carbon copy, almost like he was seeing the smaller version of himself in his eyes. He didn’t realize he was tearing up until a nurse brought him a towel to wipe the sweat off his forehead, knowing that both had to rest and regain strength.
That day Hina Midoriya changed his fate.
Izuku wasn’t the man in his adulthood going to parties and returning late at home. From now on, he would stay the caring dad who had a reason to return home earlier. He knew emerald eyes would always welcome him with a baby’s laugh, and they would rest together at the end of the day like it was written on paper. Hina wasn’t an easy pup, but the omega still loved her endlessly, even when the bags under his eyes became bigger to the point of scaring his loved ones and colleagues from work.
It wasn’t a surprise if Izuku devoted himself to Hina’s happiness. This little girl was radiant, energetic, and always excited about the world. She grew up by taking the omega’s personality, being vulnerable around her dad, and caring about her friends in the playground. Raising a child by himself had been the hardest thing in his life, authorizing himself moments of vulnerability when no one was around. Still, he couldn’t help but be pleased of the tiny newborn who turned into a magical princess with the years.
At some point, a better offer appeared in his career and he accepted it. The price for this opportunity was to leave the country, letting his past be a forgotten memory, but he wasn’t alone…not anymore. Hina was a smart pup, she always figured out things about her dad that even Izuku himself didn’t know yet. Her chubby hands would often cup the freckled cheek, asking if the omega was all right before the tears fell out of Izuku’s eyes.
It might be why Izuku wanted to keep this strong bond between his daughter and him. This was beyond words, and they were both aware of the sacrifices they were making to reach their happiness. Some moments were harder than others, but the morning with Hina sleeping beside Izuku’s arms was worth it.
“-want to go home. You’re daydreaming again, Daddy” Her voice caught the omega’s attention, cutting him out of his thoughts. In a season as hot as summer, one of the only activities nearby was the municipal swimming pool.
Despite her stress from the crowd, Izuku had to overcome those outbursts of panic, while holding the hand of her daughter, who she seemed excited by this exit. Each holiday was similar to each other for 6 years, but this time, their dynamics would change, taking a riskier direction in the choice of their actions.
The scarred hands pinched the small nose, hearing a quick laugh escaping Hina’s lips. “Sorry, sweetheart,” he assured with a soft smile. “I was lost in my mind for a moment, what did you say ?”
“I said I wanted to go home. My stomach is making strange noises and I’m getting tired.” she instinctively arms crossed against her chest in a sign of protestation.
Izuku couldn’t blame her, she was young and her attention was short compared to his, especially with this sunshine being hotter, nearly giving a headache to anyone staying too long under his tricks. It had always been a tradition since Hina was born, to spend most of his time with his daughter to make sure she knew how she was loved…and It’ll be something Izuku will continue for sure, even if he’s an 80-year-old man.
“Alright, let’s clean our stuff and make sure we don’t forget or lose anything. I’m pretty sure there’s a new episode of your favorite show. The last one was a cliffhanger and I would like to know what Mister Fix stole from his neighbors.”
Call him childish but Izuku’s favorite time of the day was returning home and creating a stronger bond with his pup. He never had a paternal figure in his life so he didn’t want to repay the same thing, that’s why he tried his best by raising Hina like Inko raised him: with devoted love.
It could be translated by small gestures like having late-night talks about school activities or even watching Hina’s favorite TV show! Izuku would be more focused on observing the light shining in her eyes than the actual show, but it was heartwarming.
“Then pack our things faster !! I don’t want to miss it, Daddy-” Hina confessed, smiling happily. The small shadow looked at the taller figure packing their stuff and making sure they had everything they’d been looking for. Her chubby hands grabbed the backpack on her shoulders, moving her feet with excitement.
However, Izuku made the mistake of taking a quick peek at the man standing a few meters away. His heart missed a beat, memorizing the golden spiky hair and sunglasses glasses hiding his crimson eyes. The omega didn’t know anything about the alpha, except how he had a name and he was convicted by everyone. At first sight, Katsuki Bakugo might be a few years older than him, with a certain body able to catch the most curious eyes and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see poor souls trying to get his attention.
The blond was focused on his job, and making sure everyone was safe in a swimming pool was harder than it seemed. He had no time to focus on flirting with the extras, because he needed to make some money, and took his role seriously. In his quest for loyalty toward the values he signed on this contract that day, the blond didn’t notice the emerald eyes losing between the numerous gazes and whispered about his presence.
Izuku was in love with this man.
It wasn’t a secret for anyone but he was too afraid to have a decent conversation with this stranger occupying his wildest dreams. There was no way an alpha like Katsuki would be interested in a stupid omega like him. After all, they didn’t know anything about each other and maybe the man he fantasized about could be an asshole…that’s why he would rather keep his dirty dreams for him and bring them to his grave.
“You’re daydreaming again,” chubby fingers grabbed his shorts and caught his attention. Izuku returned to reality, where wide jade eyes glanced at him curiously. “And you’re looking at this man again, is it a friend of yours? Because he’s kinda pretty. I bet he’ll look good with you !!”
Izuku blushed at the realization. It is a well-known fact that children tend to be honest with every thought crossing their mind, even the most direct ones. He was used to it, but being in public was bringing a different atmosphere, almost like his simple presence here was already a shame for his concurrency standing afar. Still…He couldn’t let someone else enter his life, not when it wasn’t serious.
The pup had already asked many questions about her sire in the past, but Izuku had been completely honest with her, explaining how they only met once and he wasn’t aware of her existence. It was probably for the best, even if there were still questions on her lips, but Hina nodded and accepted the truth…why should she chase after this man when she already had enough love with her dad?
“No, I don’t know anything about him unfortunately except a name on my lips….” He affirmed, putting back the latest stuff before closing his bags. “We can go now, sorry for making you wait sweetheart.”
Hina nodded, her hands reaching the scarred one as their two shadows moved away in the crowd. The freckled man would gladly hold the tired figure in his chest, holding the bags in one hand and letting the pup calm herself at his presence. Lost in their thoughts, none noticed how quickly crimson eyes followed their shadows before they left his vision field.
——
Hina would never understand adults.
Until now, her dad always proclaimed “I’ll explain to you later when you’re older enough to understand, I promise”. It was unfair! She was only 6 but she wanted to know what was crossing her dad’s mind every time they went to the swimming pool. Why does Izuku seem so focused on this pretty stranger? If it wasn’t a friend, why the omega was so invested?
She noticed the light shining in the emerald eyes and the strange expression on his absent face when someone was reaching the blond too close. Some of her classmates at school had familiar gazes and during a moment, Hina had the impression of seeing a child admiring an adult…instead, it was a different kind of admiration. She knew what real admiration was because she’d always seen it every time Izuku was around. This one was different, and the pup hated not knowing the answers to her questions.
“Daddy, why are you acting like a stalker who’s searching for his prey ?” Her voice resonated in the public crowd, forcing Izuku to stop daydreaming. Indeed, this slight comment forced everyone around them to give worried gazes. The freckled man was standing beside his daughter, with a blush on his blinking face, and trying to explain how this was just a joke.
“What are you saying- and where did you learn this language, young girl? I thought we forbidden the thriller movies.” He declared, resting against the back of the swimming pool, and felt how his daughter was giving him a funny gaze.
“Sometimes I go to pee and there’s this emission at the TV- but you’re asleep every time so I don’t want to bother you !” The tone in her voice revealed how she was trying to cover her excuse, no matter how protective the omega was.
How could Izuku be mad at a precious girl like her? She was his everything, and aware of that. The bright smile on this blithe face would be enough to highlight the freckled chubby cheeks, showing how happy she was. The scarred hands started to play with the green curls tenderly, admiring how the stars in her eyes were bringing him hope for the future they were trying to build.
“You know I love you more than anything, sweetheart ?” Hina nodded in answer, almost like the answer was obvious. “But sometimes there are things I can’t tell you, even if I want to. It’s an adult thing, but you’ll learn it when the times have come.”
The small girl was unimpressed by the bad excuses leaving her dad’s lips….She saw him lie in a better way.
“From what I’m seeing, you’re acting like my classmates when one of them is in love…”She whispered, before facing the sudden blush on Izuku’s cheeks. Her eyes widened at the realization, and she started to move her little legs in the buoy closer to her dad. “You are in love !!”
Izuku didn’t answer. He hated being caught by his daughter, especially when she was smarter than him sometimes. It wasn’t a secret because the hints were under her eyes since the beginning, but hearing it out loud was different. However, the freckled man couldn’t count on being discreet when Hina was repeating the same thing around a crowd, who was way too curious for their life.
The only answer he could give was a sigh. He knew he wasn’t the only one but still !! Izuku let his body fall on the water, closing his eyes and thinking it could help him to wake up from this bad dream. However, Hina had a different vision of things and started to worry when she saw her dad staying too long underwater. Her chubby hands hit the waves of the swimming pool, starting to call his name and begging him to get up.
The panic in her voice was instant and left the freckled man out of his thoughts. At this moment, Izuku realized how it was a bad idea. When his heart reached the air, his eyes met with teary jade and Hina looked affected. Once again, the omega made mistakes but he knew how to comfort his pup. His scarred hands took her out of the buoy, and let her head rest against his shoulder, hands cupping her back in gentle movements.
“I’m sorry, sweetie,” he whispered, noticing how the pup was holding him closer. “This is just…you need to stop being this smart or you’ll figure things out before me.”
Hina’s heart moved a little, letting the scarred hands wipe her salty tears. Izuku kissed her forehead and cupped her cheeks. She was the most important person in his life, but sometimes she wanted to grow up too fast.
“It’s because you’re a dummy!” She answered, hugging the omega tighter, comforting herself at the familiar scent and heartbeat.
Maybe they should figure this out once they’re at home…
——
Hina was also stubborn.
The 6-year-old girl couldn’t refuse a “no”, especially from a dummy like her dad. At this rhythm, someone else will take Izuku’s place and steal her new papa! This couldn’t be a possibility, not when she wanted to also help her dad to be happy.
There were a lot of thoughts inside this small brain, as her shadow lost herself in the crowd. Today was a sunny day, the background noises filled the public space, giving a perfect opportunity for her to leave. She made sure to leave at the exact moment Izuku was searching for something in his bags. Now Hina realized how she was so small compared to the others! But she had a mission: kick the extras out and reunite the two lovers.
Indeed, the little girl saw this familiar scenario in one of her movies. She could be the fairy in Cinderella, and help her dad to be reunited with his mysterious prince! A smile appeared on her smirky face, enjoying way too much this role of a troublemaker.
A few minutes later, her eyes reached the final destination after endless minutes of hearing strangers complaining about her rudeness. This place seemed so huge and maybe this blond man was just another giant living in the sky like the story she heard- the little girl tried to shout out something but her voice was too small and mixed with the crowd. Hina smiled, started to play fake tears, and called for help like any casual child without bad intentions would do.
Hina was different…she wanted to bring a new papa at home.
The sound of a crying pup reached Katsuki’s ears, forcing him to look down and notice the small shadow of the green curls of its height, despite the meters that separated them. It was nothing new that a child was lost in an environment like this one, but the familiarity of this little one had caught her attention. His eyes got lost a few times toward the two figures entering the public area, the freckled man by his side was probably her dad even if the two looked the same. It was obvious their presence would catch some eyes, but the crimson ones made sure to pay specific attention to their shadows.
There was nothing wrong with watching them because they were just strangers as the others, but something was breathtaking about the freckled man’s beauty. Katsuki was here when the brat cried because she was worried about her dad drowning, but the nerd came right in time to comfort his pup before someone else had to save this idiot.
The blond grumbled, asking one of his colleagues to watch the pool. The pink-haired woman nodded, switching her previous post to let her friend do his job. The taller man put on his knees, to make sure to be at the same height as the pup, before wiping the salty tears falling down her cheeks. Hina kept crying and admiring how her plan was working to perfection.
She was truly a mastermind and her dad would thank her later. Still, in this hope, Hina couldn’t put aside the potential role this hot guy would have in their family soon and he needed to pass a series of tests.
Until now, Katsuki had been reactive enough to notice her presence despite the crowd, so this means he could easily notice when something was wrong with Izuku and her. It was a good start but he even improved her expectations when he voluntarily decided to wipe her tears and wait until she finished.
This man was also patient? If Izuku didn’t want him, Hina would gladly take him. So now, the blond alpha made his proof and proved how he could be a good sire, which sounded great in this projection in her head.
“Oi, kiddo,” his harsh voice echoed in the crowd, making sure to wait until the pup was done crying.
Working with him taught him a few lessons, especially when it was to not rush toward a vulnerable child. In the past, he used to unconsciously more pressure on the crying pup, before saving the situation by comforting them. Katsuki had never been good with children, but this job helped him to understand how they can be either genius or sensitive. “What are you doing here? Did you get lost or someone is bothering you ?”
“Ye…Yes.”
Hina held her swift swim closer and pretended to be afraid. There was one thing the freckled man didn’t know…it was how talented she was to manipulate her emotions at such a young age. Some people would consider this as a hint of manipulation, but what was the risk if the small pup was using it for personal reasons?
“I lost my dad and I don’t know where he is. There’s so many people here and what if he leaves without me- He might be worried and-”
The blond knew how wasting too much time on the salty tears would only make the P.P. more stressed, so he decided to use his secret technique. His callous hands ruffled her messy curls, and a smirk appeared, trying to comfort the pup. noticing how unshared tears reached her freckled cheeks. His policy made sure to bring each child back to their parents when they got lost and it wasn’t the first time he was facing a case like this one, so he was prepared for any eventuality.
“It’s alright, let's find him before you fill the pool with your crocodile tears,” the tone in his voice sounded so comforting, letting Hina know she had won. Indeed, the other omegas who tried to flirt with the blond gave her a cold glare, realizing how they could never beat a child, even in their games. A slight and hidden smile appeared on the pup’s pleading face, revealing how she wasn’t as innocent as she seemed.
“What’s your name, kiddo ?”
“Hina…Hina Midoriya.”.
“Mine is Katsuki Bakugo,” He made sure to calm the pup before holding her in his arms. It took him by surprise to see how the small girl rushed into warmth, but he didn’t ask more questions. After all, she was probably deadly worried about her dad and the faster they found him, the faster they could wipe away those tears. “Nice to meet you.”
Hina’s head rested against the blond’s chest, small hands holding his back and felt the sunshine against the vulnerable skin. Don’t get her wrong, she knew the risks by acting that way, but it was worth taking if this meant returning home with a new papa to make his dad happy. No matter how the freckled man explained how he was happy by her side and it was enough, she needed to see him smile at someone else the way he did with her…because Izuku deserved the best!
Munch to her surprise, this sight was unexpectedly comfortable, the pup was already projecting into their family life she hadn’t made any damage to her plans.
Something was off about this situation. Her chest started to feel strange, almost like a bad thing was happening on the other side of the pool. At this moment, she realized how the supposed perfect alpha didn’t even ask her dad’s name. What if he was bringing her to the wrong person or even worse…he was capturing her like the bad guys in the movies? Hina knew she shouldn’t trust people on their looks and pretty alphas would always trick her into stupid traps, now she would never see her dad again because of her stupidity.
“Wait, why don’t you ask me what my dad looks like ?” Her tiny voice asked, catching the blond’s attention and his eyes meeting her. Under this sight, she realized how the omega was right to fall for someone like him because Katsuki was beautiful. It would be amazing to have him as a member of the family and praise her new dad’s beauty.
Katsuki’s face turned into a natural smirk, ruffling her curls. “Trust me, I already have the answer by looking at you…you two are the same. It’s impossible to not see how you’re his carbon copy, and it’s impressive to see the power of genetics.”
Her head moved a little, whispering a low “genetics ?” before the light refined in her eyes when she realized the meaning of the alpha’s words. Many ideas and questions crossed her mind at this moment but the only thing she could focus on was the potential ending of this encounter. Does this mean this beautiful stranger already knew her dad ?? This was a good sign for her plan and the two of them would fall in love immediately like the movies!
“Please, bring me back to him,” she whispered. This time, she put the messy curls closer to the alpha’s scent, trying to calm herself realizing how she made a mistake. In her goal, the pup also forgot how Izuku’s feelings were in the lines. She felt bad for scarring her dad, especially when he was loving her unconditionally.
“I promise, I will,” assured the blond, feeling how the pup was stressed. Indeed, this would be a perfect occasion to talk with this nerd who caught his eye more than once. The freckled man wasn’t very discreet about his lost gazes, but Katsuki liked this cat-and-mouse game.
—-
A few meters away, a shade of green curls appeared in the vision field. The alpha observed how the pup moved slowly, probably feeling how close he was to her dad. Hina was comfortable in Katsuki’s arms, she could even take a nap if necessary but the worries were eating her from the inside.
Imagine her reaction when her green eyes caught the freckled man talking with someone else. How dare he choose another Papa! This red-haired man was not pretty and caring like Katsuki Bakugo was. Hina loved her dad but he’d ruin her plan for their perfect family!
“-I’m not sure now is the time to flirt because I’ve lost my daughter. Her name is Hina, she’s 6 years old and is my carbon copy. Please, tell me you know where is she…I don’t know what I would’ve done if I lost her-”
“Daddy!” Her voice echoed in the crowd, catching the omega’s eyes. Izuku turned around, revealing his teary eyes followed by a sight of relief on his peering face. The omega was so afraid of losing her, it happened so fast, and still…she was safe.
“Oh my god- thanks you’re alright, sweetheart. I thought I lost you, don’t do that again or you’ll kill me.” The freckled man confessed, observing how the small girl left the stranger’s arms and rushed into his naturally.
At this moment, the two of them held each other tightly, afraid to lose each other, during endless seconds that seemed like minutes. Don’t get him wrong, he knew how Hina was to grow up, but sometimes the omega wished she could stay this little and hug him forever. He didn’t want to face how her tiny hands holding his back would become bigger, with green hair that would probably be cut in her teenage phase….it was too hard to project himself into this future.
For the moment, he was hugging his daughter, feeling how small she was.
“I’m so so so sorry,” Hina mumbled, putting her head against his shoulder. “I didn’t want to scare you but I followed your order and asked the lifeguard to help me !”
Izuku shared a curious glance with his pup, noticing how there was something else behind those jade eyes. He knew his daughter by heart, and she was hiding something. He got the confirmation of his doubts when a harsh voice caught his attention.
“You did a great job at raising her, I know a lot of brats who would’ve run away to get free ice cream. Yours was too focused on finding her parents, the next time make sure your alpha is in the corner. It would be a bad thing if this accident repeat itself, right ?”
Izuku’s face became paler. There was no way the lifeguard was talking to him from all the omegas he had within reach. Still, he had to admit how the blond was prettier than he expected. The things the omega would do to be held by those strong hands, feeling them on his waist and-
“Thanks for your help, you’re a life savior,” the freckled man forced himself to cut his forbidden thoughts. He could feel Hina resting against his chest, with a slight smirk on her lips. “And there’s no alpha actually, just me and my pup against the world.”
“Oh…I’m sorry,” answered the taller man.
Maybe he was lying, because he already figured out this information for a long time due to their chasing game, but this could stay a hidden truth for the moment. He couldn’t jump to a conclusion based on a few stolen glances, especially when there was a potential alpha in their past who chose a different kind of life, away from his family…but none of this was his concern.
At least it was what he tried to pretend because he couldn’t deny how pretty the omega beside him was with his messy green curls, reflecting a different shade of this color owning his gaze. From here, the chubby freckled cheeks caught his attention and his eyes fell a few seconds on the forbidden lips he would love to feel on his one of these days….Enough is enough, Katsku needed to stay professional!
“It’s fine, I don’t need anyone actually,” Izuku lied straight to his face. Of course, he needed someone to love him, but this someone should be the blond. Don’t blame the freckled man for falling in love with someone like Katsuki Bakugo who had everything to fill his wildest dreams. “My daughter is the most important thing to me, even if sometimes she’s chaotic but you know how children are.”
A smirk draws itself on the blond’s leering face to this comment. He knew this statement all too well, but it was still soft to observe the light returning into the jade eyes. The red-haired man who tried to flirt with the omega earlier left a few minutes ago, giving a small victory to the taller alpha.
“The next time your brat is being difficult or gets lost, ask her to see Katsuki Bakugo. It might be a name you two needed to remember.”
Izuku’s eyes widened. How was he so smooth with his flirting and how the omega was supposed to answer? This situation was chaotic in his mind, even if everything seemed fine on the outside. To call himself, he showed his scarred hands and felt how the callous one grabbed them in a welcoming gesture. They were so strong and taller than his-
“Well, if Hina is giving me another cardiac attack, bring her back to Izuku Midoriya.” The omega smiled, being mesmerized by the alpha’s smirk. There was no way his inner omega was already missing the other’s touch, but he stopped every fantasy before going too far.
“It was nice meeting you, freckles,” Katsuki assured, pinching the small girl’s nose. “Same for you, kiddo. Be careful the next time, it would be bad to see a pale gaze on this pretty face your dad has.”
“Thanks mister Bakugo !” Hina smiled, observing the taller figure moving away in the crowd. To not throw flowers at herself, everything was happening perfectly as she planned. Katsuki even flirted in a strange game with her dad, making him a blushing mess.
She had a victory. It was what she was thinking until emerald eyes found hers. This time, Hina could read a small anger in this iris, but even her beauty or acting couldn’t save her from this situation. Izuku was caring and loving, but he could get really scary when he was angry…
“Hina Midoriya,” his voice called, forcing the small girl to hold him close. “Would you mind explaining what you were doing? You didn’t have to scar me like that.”
“Let me explain…” Her chubby fingers played with her dad’s curls, knowing how it would calm the current situation. “I was just trying to help you to get your alpha. He was nice and knew how to comfort me, he could be my new dad !”
Izuku sighed. He couldn’t stay mad at his daughter any longer, not when she didn’t have bad intentions. Hina wanted to help him, it was a natural reaction but it was a mistake to involve a kid in this situation.
“We already talked about that, this is something I need to do on my own. You need to be the sweet and chaotic pup you are instead of giving me a heart attack.” His blithe face softened, scarred hands cupping her cheeks. He loved her so much, this was unreal.
“With my help, you two had a first meeting, even if it was strange. Is that how adults always talk? Because something was off in your conversation but he noticed you !” She say in the plastic chair, explaining what happened when he was gone.
Izuku was too occupied to lose himself in the shining jade eyes, noticing the small hands moving while explaining this story. If it was the definition of happiness, he would’ve written millions of lines in his journey book. They would be all dedicated to Hina, who highlighted his life since the first day.
When the pup finished her story and waited for an answer, Izuku gave up. He covered his daughter with millions of kisses all over her cheeky face, ignoring if it was embarrassing or not, but he was realizing how happy he was. Hina growled, pushing him away before laughing.
“Daddy, stop I can’t breathe-” she confessed, meeting the loving emerald eyes. Her head found the omega’s chest and calmed herself to this tender scent.
“I love you so much, baby,” He declared, holding her closer. He wished this moment would last forever. Later, when the two figures left the swimming pool, they were surprised to see Katsuki smiling at them. If Izuku needed to control his blushing mess, Hina was enjoying how everything was perfect.
——
Izuku didn’t know how he ended up here, but he remembered how this became a regular thing.
The first meeting with the blond alpha occupied his nights and his fantasies, to his daughter’s happiness. The family ended up hanging out at the swimming pool every day, only to be welcomed by Katsuki waving at them. They barely talked because the blond had a complicated job, but from time to time, the alpha would take news of the two.
Hina would be happy to see how the conversation between Izuku and Katsuki was fluent. Why would she need a television show when her dad’s life was more interesting? She loved every new detail about this love story she had seen in fairy tales. In the end, Izuku will be the princess and Katsuki the prince, who worked together with the amazing help of their beloved fairy Hina Midoriya.
At least it would’ve been the perfect ending to this story if fate decided otherwise.
“I said no,” Izuku raised his voice, expressing how angry he was. The last weeks had been good enough for Hina to interfere with this love story, but this time the request was too much, especially when it could cost her life.
“But come on !! It’s the only way-”
“No, I won’t tell you twice. You won’t risk your life or pretend to drown just to make things faster between Kacchan and me.” He argued, trying to calm himself but the eyes widened to his words. “I knew it was a mistake to involve you, but I don’t need any of this. I’m old enough to know what should I do in this situation.”
“I just want to help you! What’s wrong with me trying to show you how much I care about you- you’re always doing so much for me, I need to return the favor.” Hina’s voice shouted in the living room, letting an awkward atmosphere fill the silence.
Her eyes were teary, and her arms crossed over her small chest. Izuku hated to see his daughter crying, but he had authority. He knew the limits but this time it was too much. The small girl could fight endlessly, but Izuku won’t change his mind.
“You can help me by staying out of this story from now. You’ve done enough and I don’t want you to risk your life again for me. I’m the one supposed to protect you, not the opposite…why can’t you understand that ?” Izuku had never been the kind of person to raise his voice, but knowing his pup, Hina wouldn’t let him win. She wanted to have the last words, but it was time to change…no matter if she liked it or not.
“Because I want Daddy’s happiness !!” She shouted, louder than her dad, this time. Sometimes the omega hated how stubborn she was, especially when she was making a scene, thinking she had the idea of the decade without realizing the consequences.
God, the freckled man had the impression of seeing Hina in her teenage phase when she was only 6…
“And I need to protect you, so listen to me and forget about this plan. We’ve done enough, and we’ll see if we were supposed to be soulmates or not. I need to focus on you because you have no idea how-”
“I hate you! You’re a meanie and you cut yourself for your happiness. I hate you so much, Daddy!!” The small girl yelled, her shadow leaving the kitchen before closing her door.
The sound echoed in the entire house, making the ghost haunting those walls shake at the previous scene. Now, Izuku was the only one sitting on the chair, with his scarred hands against his forehead. The loud heartbeat in his chest sounded like a bad melody, while tears fell down his cheeks. He let a few sobs escape his lips, releasing this pain and repeating the last words of their conversation.
/” I hate you so much, Daddy!!”/
Izuku knew his daughter never meant any of her words. The pup was just a child hurt because she was put aside in a plan in which she was seriously involved. Don’t get him wrong, it was nice to share more moments with his pup, but this was his last limit.
“…you have no idea how I’m afraid of losing you,” his lips whispered between a few sobs. If only his daughter would be in the same room to hear his confession. Izuku knew this would be awkward but he was still her dad. The omega knew the pup better than anyone, and this fight would never separate them.
It might be stupid, but his shadow still reached the 6-year-old’s room before sleeping. At this hour, the omega should be reading her bedtime stories but instead, there was a dead silence welcoming him. Izuku sighed, entering the door and putting his knees on the floor. His scarred hands cupped Hina’s back gently, understanding how she wasn’t sleeping but ignored him.
“I’m sorry for yelling at you earlier, sweetheart,” he apologized. “As stupid as it sounds, I’m trying my best to protect you from the danger this world could give you…but you need to think for yourself. I don’t want to focus on my happiness but yours.”
“What’s so different between us? You’re just older and an adult pretending to know everything.” She mumbled, facing the walls.
“Unfortunately I don’t know everything about life or what will happen tomorrow. I just know how to make sure each day is unforgettable and I’ll leave this world without regrets…because you’re my biggest pride.” The omega kissed the pup’s forehead, feeling how she was listening to his speech. “My happiness is being by your side no matter what happens. I’ll fight anyone against our path and who’s hurting you. I don’t want us to be mad at each other, because I still miss my baby…”
“I told you I’m not a baby! I’m 6 now, Daddy-” The small girl mumbled. There was nothing dangerous with this situation, especially after they both fought but, for some reason, her dad always seemed to find the right answer.
“Maybe, but you’ll always stay my baby, no matter if you’re 6 or 20 years old. I’ll love you unconditionally, even if death separates us when our times have come. You’ll always be my favorite hero, and princess to hold in my arms after a long day. I love you so much, sweetheart.”
Hina didn’t answer. She moved her head, reaching the sheet and wiping her recent tears. Don’t blame her for being hurt in the process because she wanted to help! If only she could face her dad and say how much she loves him too….Sometimes it was hard to express herself when she was afraid of hurting the person she loved the most. After all, Hana only wanted to have a family and it would be a natural reaction to reunite the blond alpha and her dad.
Izuku smiled, kissing her forehead and wishing her a goodnight. It wasn’t the first time the pup was distant because of her stubbornness, but he couldn’t blame her. Hana only wanted his happiness and was a child, even if sometimes Izuku’s love wasn’t enough. It would be a natural need to read for the closest paternal figure, especially at this age when the world is shining colors in her eyes.
The footsteps echoed in the room similar to a sad sound playing to the pup’s ears. Her chubby hands grabbed her sheet and decided to erase this pain in her chest by confronting the origin of her worries. There’s no way her daddy will sleep sad tonight because of her mistakes! It happened unexpectedly, but when the omega was about to close the door and turn the small lamp on, Hina’s voice caught his attention.
“Wait !” She added with a small tone, afraid to say something bad again. Izuku turned his back resting against the door, observing the tiny shadow in this huge bed. “I know you’re mad at me but can…Can we go to the swimming pool the next week like we always do?”
“Of course, if it makes you happy, sweetie. I’ll never be mad at you, I'm just trying to protect you. We’ll figure this out right in time but for the moment you need to sleep, alright ?” the green-haired man confessed. She was just a child, worried about her dad and there was nothing wrong with it, but this vulnerable soul lost her journey to make everyone happy.
—-
That night, Izuku couldn’t find sleep.
He was dreaming about a world where he would lose the most important person of his life overnight, regrets would drown him every day. He still remembers the first time he held this newborn in his arms, being worried about not holding her correctly before the midwives reassured him. How could he forget the moment when her eyes opened, revealing a sudden shade of green similar to his, and the sweetest sound escaped her lips? It would be a painful moment for the newborn, but a new chapter in the omega’s life.
Since the day he returned home with his daughter, the omega never left her. Some would say he was overprotective, others caring enough for her needs but only Izuku had the right answer. After all, he was the one who saw this small shadow growing up every day for the past 6 years, making his life into this incredible journey full of tears and smiles. Sometimes it was difficult because he was alone against the world, but Hana was his strength. The pup was his reason to survive every day to be stronger and to make this awed soul proud.
Involving her in this stupid search for attention for a one-sided crush was one of his mistakes. He wasn’t human and perfect, but knowing Hana, maybe it could lead to a potentially happy ending. It was his thoughts until a few hours ago when the pup’s imagination reached the forbidden. There was no way his beloved daughter would risk her life, and Izuku hoped he made things clear.
His shadow reflected on the wall, being highlighted by the moonlight. At this hour, everyone was sleeping and the neighborhood was calm. It’s been years since the freckled man decided to live away from the city, to give a peaceful life to his pup and avoid the mistakes Inko made. Growing up in a city taught him how, sometimes, it was better to stay asleep instead of watching one of your neighbors getting robbed under your eyes.
The freckled man sighed. He needed to change his mind, and this first need was to hydrate himself. The kitchen was a few steps away, and Hana should probably be deeply asleep at this rate. His hands took the sheets away, and silenced footsteps appeared in the empty kitchen. The sound of the water falling in the wash basin followed by the glasses meeting the metal. Izuku groaned at the sudden sound and decided to rest a few minutes with his thoughts.
From now on, the path he drew himself faded away, letting the worry win over his past confidence. The unknown was still waiting for him somehow, ready to hurt his feelings anytime soon. However, it was a fight the freckled man was ready to take if this meant finding his happiness…and it could start by actually making a move on Katsuki instead of waiting for the other to act.
Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice the tiny shadow appearing in the room with him. It took him by surprise, but his eyes turned into worries when Hana was standing under his eyes, awake at 3 am. His body moved on its own, putting his knees on the floor and observing her hands wiping her sleepy eyes.
“Sweetie, what are you doing awake at this hour ?” His voice softened, trying to hide the worst scenarios happening in his mind. Hina had already seen many stressful things for the day. “Did you have a bad dream? Would you mind telling me about it ?”
The pup nodded a “no”, comforting the omega, holding her plushies tighter against her chest. Something was wrong, and Izuku was about to have the answers to his questions.
“I couldn’t sleep because I was feeling bad…” She confessed, putting her head against her dad’s chest. The scarred hands ruffled her back gently, trying to comfort her with a soft scent that usually work. “I was a bad person for making you cry earlier. I didn’t want you to hate me..and I was selfish to think I could sleep in your bed tonight.”
Izuku’s face widened. The only answer he could give was a tighter hug, making sure to show how much he loved Hina’s presence in his life.
“You’re not a bad person, baby. You’ll never be and it’s okay to make mistakes, even adults and heroes are making them. You’re the strongest person I’ve ever seen and I’m so proud of you for telling me about your worries.” He felt how the pup held him closer, listening to his speech. “Noting is considerate selfish when it’s about your comfort. To be honest, I had sleep trouble and I wouldn’t refuse to have you beside me tonight…because I still feel bad for yelling at you, sweetie.”
“I forgive you,” Hina whispered, letting the emerald eyes meet the jade one. Izuku smiled, scarred hands wiping her tears away with a gentle touch. “But are you telling the truth? I’m not a bad person…”
Izuku kissed her forehead, playing with her curls. “I’ve never been so sure about something in my life. Tell me, did I ever lie to you ?”
“Never…” Her fingers held the plushie closer, feeling how she was getting tired. “‘Want to sleep.”
The omega nodded, asking her to close her eyes as she started to sleep against Izuku’s arms. She looks so small from here, and yet, she was already 6…The freckled man made sure to put the sheet correctly, stealing a quick kiss on her forehead and wishing her goodnight. Hina smiled in her sleep, reaching her dad’s warmth as the two of them comforted each other in their worries.
After all, they didn’t need any alpha in their life because they already had each other, and it was enough to survive.
—--
In the early morning, when the world was about to start a new day, some souls would rather rest a little longer in their peace. Indeed, the neighborhood was wide awake for a Tuesday, and it was surprising but their loud conversations weren’t strong enough to wake the two shadows.
The sun went through the moving curtain, the wind slightly ruffling their glancing faces as the two of them were sleeping peacefully. Izuku’s head moved a little, his scarred hands reaching the other side of the bed, only to find a space. His omega instincts awoken, thinking about every worst scenario possible for Hina…only to find her small figure standing away.
From here, Izuku could notice how her right leg was standing outside the sheet, and her left one still inside the comforting warmth. The expression on her cheeks softened, revealing how happy she was in her fantasy dream. The scarred hands took the plushie that rested a few centimeters away, before putting it closer to the pup’s chest. The reaction was immediate, Hina’s chubby hands grabbing the plushie and smiling in her sleep.
Izuku droned, forced to realize how he couldn’t return to sleep. The sun already revealed its shadows against the wall, and the world was ready to face another day while Izuku just planned to rest a little longer in this happiness. Their previous conversation still echoed like a memory in his mind, a soft moment of vulnerability between a dad who tried to give enough love to a child.
Hina might be difficult and stubborn sometimes, but she had a good heart and wanted to make her dad happy. This situation about Katsuki could be put aside temporarily, helping the two of them to focus on their strong bond.
He couldn’t help but smile at the realization. Years ago, he welcomed a small pup in his life, thinking about the compromises and sacrifices, but this was worth it. The entire journey would be better than any success his past self hoped because the bright smile on Hina’s face would be better than any battle he had won until now. His scarred hands ruffled the freckled cheeks, hearing how the girl welcomed this touch.
“‘Morning, sweetie,” whispered Izuku. He knew it’d be a question of minutes before she woke up, but they had all day. They didn’t have a special plan for the day, just resting with each other and reassuring each other about their past conversation yesterday.
The freckled man gave a quick kiss to the pup’s forehead, before putting the sheet against her body and leaving the room in silence.
—
Hina hated to listen to the others because she would always be right.
That day at the swimming pool wouldn’t be an exception, and her curious glance toward the alpha would betray her intention. Hopefully, Katsuki didn’t notice her shadow in the crowd, which followed her plan, the one she secretly planned to finally make a move over those two. Their strange conversation would betray their intention, stolen glances and slight blushes shared in this public space where all eyes were focused on them.
There was no doubt Izuku would be attracted by the taller alpha, and the crimson eyes would reveal how there was more than, just a slight need for friendship between them. Hina was still too young to understand what was happening, but she could recognize the slight and hidden smile on her dad’s appealing face every time they got home.
This time, she will disobey the omega’s orders no matter if Izuku will punish her or not!
The sun was burning her shoulder, and she could feel the emerald eyes on her figure. It would be complicated to make the final step of her plan if Izuku would look at her constantly. She loved her dad but could he think about himself for once and stalk her future step-dad instead?
“What’s going on inside your mind ?” Izuku’s voice cut her from her thoughts. The background noises around them faded away, forcing the girl to look at the worried omega standing under her eyes. “You’ve been acting strange since we reached this place…are you alright? “
“‘Fine”, she mumbled in her beard. The omega’s instinct knew something was wrong, knowing how Hina could hide her game easily. The freckled man found himself tricked into her games more than once in the past.
“Lying to me won’t help your case, young girl…I hope you know that” He tried to make sure the little girl understood the meaning behind the choice of his words even if Hina wasn’t stupid, she needed to be discreet to act.
“Am I being selfish for asking you to take the toy I forgot in the bag? It’s too far and you’re the closest person-”
“I get it,” decreed the freckled man, his hands ruffling the messy curls. “I’ll be back and stay safe on the ledge, you don’t move until I come back, alright ?”
Hina nodded with a smile. She let the omega give her a small kiss on her forehead, but the only answer he got was waster splash with her laugh. This sight was comforting and he knew how he would do anything to protect his daughter, and it’ll only be a few minutes, as long as Hina was in his sight, it’ll be fine, right?
His shadow faded in the crowd, while Hina obeyed. She stays on the ledge as promised and her legs playing with the water. Her eyes took a glance at the blond standing a few meters away, who didn’t notice them. Hina knew what she’d do was wrong, but she needed to do it…because she knew this Katsuki and her dad would fall for each other.
Maybe Izuku will hate her for that, but it was worth trying.
—-
Izuku muttered, blaming himself for taking too many things in their bags. He hated being this far from his daughter, especially in a public space but making things faster would make it worse. Something rose in his chest, his omega instincts forced him to stop his research and check where Hina was.
His heart missed a beat when he realized how the pup left the ledge, as she promised. Many thoughts reached his mind but he started to call her name louder, asking people if they saw her. Unfortunately, none answered positively to his questions, and the entire scene reached the blond’s ears. Indeed, Katsuki already had eyes on Izuku since his family walked through this public space but something was wrong.
His crimson eyes noticed the familiar figure walking, If it wasn’t, running into the crowd to reach the only help he could find. By instinct, the taller man decided to face the vulnerable soul and was surprised when he found the omega with teary eyes. His scarred hands were shaking, he couldn’t say a proper word due to the sob and he started to call for help. At this moment, Katsuki knew something important was happening, so he tried to calm the freckled man to act as fast as they could.
“Kacchan, please help me,” he sobbed, his head feasting against the alpha’s chest unconsciously. His hands grabbed the blond’s back, ignoring if this was a public scene. “I can’t find her, I don’t know where is she and-”
“Take a breath and look at me, freckles,” Katsuki’s voice answered but he knew his worried scent would betray him. “What happened ?”
Izuku’s head moved a bit, noticing the worried crimson eyes looking into his. In another situation, this would’ve been cute but Izuku had someone more important to think.
“I….Hina asked me to search for something in her bag and promised to stay on the ledge while waiting. She told me she would be safe and she did…but when I looked around, she was gone.” He whispered, hoping no one would judge him around, making this situation worse. “Please, you need to bring my daughter back-”
“Someone is drowning, we need help right now” another voice appeared, confirming the worst-case scenario. The jade eyes widened, and his hands held the blond’s back tighter, only to meet the pale gaze in Katsuki’s eyes. Without surprise, he was also impacted by the situation.
The taller man followed the stranger, leading him to the center pool and listening to the information carefully. Beside him was standing the smaller man, with a pale gaze and teary eyes. His hands were shaking, and he was too stunned to speak. The blond needed to act as fast as possible, there was no way he would let the Hina leave this world so early.
“Stay here, I’ll take care of the situation,” he whispered to the freckled man, who was still tearing up. “I’ll save her, but don’t rush the process, each second matters.”
“Save my daughter, please,” He sobbed, letting the callous fingers go and observing the figure moving in the swimming pool.
The crowd was stunned, wondering if they should look or not as the fear could be read in their gazes. It was the nightmare of every parent, not Izuku knew he would rather be focused on the familiar shadow searching for Hina than the other’s gaze. He did nothing wrong! It never happened in the past and she was here when he looked at her earlier- He hated himself for letting something like that happen because he was a bad parent. He should’ve said no or taken it later…now his daughter’s life was on the line.
“Look, he found her !” Another voice echoed in this mess of whispers, catching Izuku’s attention.
The blond was walking through the ledge, holding the unconscious girl, giving chills to the omega. A part of him broke at this sight, realizing that it used to be a part of his nightmares. This couldn’t be real…no, this was a dream and he’ll wake up soon. Unfortunately, the movement of someone reaching his shoulder forced Izuku to wake up. He knew Katsuki told him to stay away, but he couldn’t handle the process.
He couldn’t stay here and watch his daughter being reanimated under his eyes. The look on the other’s face was more than serious, almost like he was also afraid of doing something wrong when it was his job. He already trained it on a few people but nothing will prepare him for this experience in real life.
He still practiced the lessons he learned from his stage, ignoring the pain and worries in each of his actions. If there was in person able to save her life, it was him. Each second matters and his mind was tricking with the worst, thinking about what the omega could feel, knowing it would be traumatic. His callous hands were shaking, and he realized how Hina was still breathing.
“She’s still alive, but I need the nerd to help me in this part of the plan.”
Izuku's body moved on its own, reaching the unconscious pup under his eyes. His hands held the smaller ones, ignoring the blurry vision due to his tears and listening carefully to each of the other’s words.
“The only thing you need to do is talk to her, she’s still breathing and could hear us. Maybe my words won’t be effective and you’re the only one able to make this step. I’ll still practice the first aid gestures, but you need to help me with that.”
Izuku nodded, accepting the mission. It was scarier when he got closer, but he ignored the whispers behind them. The only thing he was focused on would be his daughter.
“I don’t think it’s your time to take this kind of nap, so wake up, sweetheart. I thought we agreed to always be there for each other, and you’re the first one to leave me behind. This is unfair. You know I would kill myself if you’re out of reach and gone, don’t do this to me. I love you so much, stay alive for me…it’s all I’m asking. I don’t want to lose you, please.”
Tears fell on his cheeks, realizing how he was holding the small hands closer. He kissed them, only to feel the bitter taste of the swimming pool products and not her casual scent.
“She’s showing signs of answers, keep going,” Katsuki encouraged him, his voice nearly fading with the blue background.
“I’m so sorry for not being a good parent sometimes but if you wake up, I’ll be better and make you proud. I’ll welcome each of your smiles and laugh like it was the last and make sure to show how my love for you is unconditional. You’re so strong, the strongest person I know, but I need you to beat your fears and join me on the other side. I need you, you can’t leave me behind, baby.”
Izuku knew some of his tears fell on the pup’s cheeks. He didn’t mind, especially when the next silence ended up being the worst of his life. His heart was beating faster, leaving his chest while Katsuki’s gaze met his. The two men were sharing this understanding gaze, full of worries.
A sudden cough echoed, breaking this previous and cold silence. Izuku felt a familiar warmth holding him back, almost like it would be the first thing Hina would do when waking up. The freckled man gasped, while Katsuki observed how Hina would show another sign of life. She would spit out the last drops of water with a curious glance, wondering what happened.
The entire crowd applauded the blond’s success, but indeed, Katsuki was focused on something else. He observed how the freckled man’s skin regained his previous colors again, as he met the jade eyes of his daughter. His body moved on its own, holding the pup closer and feeling how she was hugging him back. None dared to speak, holding each other like they were afraid of losing this moment.
Izuku’s hands moved to feel how it was real. His daughter was safe and in his arms, this hell was over and they would return safely at home tonight. This sounded like a fever dream, but all his fear and pain erased themselves at the pup’s apology.
“I’m so sorry,” she answered in a shaking tone, sobbing into her dad’s shoulder. This was a stupid idea, and she realized it too late. “Please forgive me-”
“Of course, I forgive you, sweetheart,” answered Izuku with a soft tone. “I’m so proud of you for surviving but don’t do this again. I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose you, and I don't want to think about that now you’re back.”
His comforting scent reached the pup’s nose and calmed her. They stayed in each other’s arms for endless minutes, refusing to leave the other. Maybe it was because of this experience, but they both realized how they couldn’t live without each other. From his side, Katsuki made a hidden smile at the reunion. He knew how they would both care about each other, and this was sweet to see how he let them have their happiness back.
“I heard Daddy talking to me !” Hina added with a smile, wiping the tears on the omega’s face. The green-haired man smiled in answer, hugging her and feeling how small she was. However, this made him realize how his daughter was growing too fast and he needed to enjoy more of those moments.
“Really? I meant every word I said to you, baby. I’m so sorry for being a bad parent and letting you get hurt so easily. Will you forgive me ?”
“Of course !! And you’re not a bad parent because you’re the best dad someone could have. I should be the one apologizing for acting that way…” A sudden hand ruffled her curls and caught her attention. Her emerald eyes met the crimson one, and a blush appeared on her cheeks when she realized why he was there.
“You did nothing wrong, you two shouldn’t apologize for what happened. None could expect it, but the most important thing is how you’re safe and you shouldn’t scare your dad again, got it, princess ?” He exclaimed softly, relieved to see her quizzical face gaining color again.
“Thanks for saving me, Mr.Bakugo !!” Hina said, leaving Izuku’s arms to rush into the blond’s one.
This was unexpected, but he shared a curious glance with the freckled man, who nodded back in answer. It was the first time a child would hug him, so he didn’t know what to do…even if the gesture appeared natural. He hugged her back too, and made sure she was alright.
“It was the least I could do but make sure to go to the emergency or a doctor to check if you’re fine, brat,” he whispered while playing with her curls. Hina nodded and reached Izuku’s arms. The omega seemed relaxed, and the three of them knew this would be an unforgettable event.
“I will,” she promised, her head resting against the omega’s chest. She decided to rest a little, especially after the gentle gesture behind her back from her dad.
——
Once the crowd was out of reach and everyone dispersed again, the situation returned to normal, almost like nothing happened. However, something felt wrong…When Katsuki’s shadow was about to mix herself with the others, someone stopped him. Scarred hands reached his wrist, catching his attention as a blush appeared on the freckled cheeks.
“Wait…” Izuku explained, trying to keep his voice calm. No one around them needed to know the topic of their conversation and Hina was sleeping so she was out of reach. “I…I need to thank you for saving my daughter’s life.”
“No need to thank me, freckles,” The golden-haired man exclaimed with a smirk, making the omega’s heart melt at the sight. “Seeing you two safe is better than any returned favors.”
“I’m insisting to give something back, you already have my gratitude and respect for my entire life…but this is not enough. What can I do to thank you properly ?”
Katsuki didn’t answer. Would it be selfish to say it out loud? Maybe it was the moment to express the world that had been haunting his mind since the day he first met Izuku.
“You can return the favor by going on a date with me if that’s what you want,” he smirked, observing how the blush on the freckled cheeks became redder.
”I would love to,” answered the smaller man.
The two of them stared at each other for endless seconds before realizing they were in public. This scene could be embarrassing if the taller man wasn’t writing his number on the other’s phone, before planning their actual date and sharing a bright smile.
A few minutes later, Katsuki reached his post and kept working, knowing he couldn’t wait for the next Friday. However, Izuku decided to rest a little longer on the chair, his fingers rubbing the pup’s back gently as she loved her head slowly. A strange smile appeared on her cheeky face, and it was enough to give Izuku the answers he wanted.
“My plan worked,” she whispered and felt how the omega rolled in eyes in exasperation.
“We’ll talk about this at home, little monster. Don’t scare me like that again, I could’ve asked him on a date by myself without being traumatized, you know ?”
“No, you couldn’t…” she laughed, and Izuku kissed her forehead. He should be mad at her for doing such a thing, but he nearly lost his pup so…. he could be mad later.
——
Years later
“- it was my goal at the beginning to stay away, but I ended up drowning. So it was technically half planned if you’re asking me !” Hina explained, sitting on the couch while observing the stunned crimson eyes.
Many years have passed since this tragic accident, but their lives drastically changed. The 6-year-old who tricked her dad was now an adult who always joked about how this story reunited her parents. Indeed, after the first date, despite Izuku’s worries, the approach was surprisingly natural. It became increasingly obvious that the blond’s eyes were disappearing more and more into the shadow of the man with the green hair.
A few curious eyes could glimpse the smile at the corners of the omega's face and Hana caught up in this strange game, wondered when the two would get together. But despite this constant game of seduction in public, her account of their intimacy showed, in every sense of the word, that the connection was real.
Hina’s curiosity did not make things any easier, but meals at home became more and more inviting, with Katsuki’s familiar presence during dinner and occasionally the morning after. The couple decided to do things right, they would have strategized to prepare Hana for this new life change.
It started with family meals before moving on to public outings where a bond was made between the lifeguard and the little girl he had rescued that day. Hina remembered the exact moment when Izuku and Katsuki had settled things officially, hinting that the blond would be staying under their roof more than one night this time. The answer was obvious, and the little girl had jumped into the couple's arms when the news was announced.
She was not naïve and knew her parents' secret very well, but she preferred to see her father’s hidden smile and play the comedy.
Since that day, the relationship between Katsuki and Hina has developed naturally and has accompanied them through all phases of their lives, even the most difficult ones. Over time, a really strong bond developed, fortunately for Izuku, who could not help but realize how lucky he was.
Katsuki wasn’t her biological father, but she would consider him the same because his presence in her life changed for the better. He had watched her grow up, becoming the best sire someone could have.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” he shouted, his curse louder than the TV in the background.
That single response made Hina laugh and she heard a familiar shadow appear in the living room. From the familiar scent, someone was unhappy, and the bags under the omega’s eyes could prove his sensibility, especially when his nights were shortened in the last months.
“Stop cursing, kacchan,” his voice corrected, glancing at the two standing on the couch.
It was a late Saturday night and the entire neighborhood was in town to celebrate their new mayor, but the Midoriya-Bakugo decided to take this moment for themselves. They had never been the kind of people to hang out with their neighbors, despite how nice they were. This night could be the occasion to be closer again, especially when Hina’s visits have been rare since she entered university.
Sometimes, he found himself missing the light in her innocent eyes, marveling at everything and nothing. Still, today he could find his comfort in the twin’s red ruby eyes, revealing how the blond’s genetics were much stronger than the couple expected. The only hint of Izuku’s presence was the freckles on their cheeks, even if this turned out to be an inner joke between the mated couple.
Miu and Ren were considered as miracle, considering how the fertility rate for male omega decreased after each birth. It was first for Katsuki, and the emotion was at its height for every member of the family, including their parents.
From their first encounters, Mitsuki and Masaru had directly adored Izuku and his granddaughter, as brilliant as he was in his speeches and inspirations. If doubts and hesitations were present in the actions of the blond, the feeling of déjà vu mixed with renewal was the dominant sensation in the heart of Izuku. Each story was different, and if Hana had allowed them to meet and change the course of their lives, the twins would be able to write their destiny.
“The twins are asleep, I’m pretty sure they couldn’t even understand what a curse is,” Katsuki rolled his eyes in answer, catching the familiar shadow leaving the kitchen to reach closer to the couch.
Hina’s figure moved a little, making room for the cover resting on his legs until now. This gesture was welcomed with a smile in the corner of Izuku’s cheeks and his scarred hands of the omega towards the long green curls. The callous hands unconsciously grabbed the free one, intervening their hands together under the cover, feeling each other’s wedding ring resting on their used hands.
“Maybe but if you keep saying bad words, they’ll make history by using a curse as a first word instead of daddy or papa.” He laughed, stealing a quick kiss on his husband’s lips.
Indeed, this comment wasn’t without sense, knowing the rule they established after Miu and Ren’s birth. The presence of Katsuki in their lives could bring them many laughs and smiles, but sometimes some curses would be lost between the walls of this house. When Hina started to use them more often and pretended to be inspired by her papa, Izuku lost his mind. Hopefully, the situation was solved quickly due to the natural charming skills of his mate, leading to changing each other’s mind with something else.
This time, Izuku made sure and repeated enough during his pregnancy, that his beloved pups wouldn’t be the reflection of their loud (and charming) sire.
The television was now used as background noise, as Hana was picking which movie to watch next. Their favorite time of the day would be to act like they were young again, even for a few hours, and relive the start of their relationship. Don’t get them wrong, the couple had everything to be happy now, especially with the Hina and twins who made them the happier and proudest parents this town had known.
Their love and support as parents were unconditional, in every step of their lives, but this family life sometimes cost them more than just a few broken promises. How many times did Izuku promise to bring his husband on a date, before falling asleep in the bed and still welcomed by comforting arms around his chest?
Katsuki could never be mad at him, especially when the nerd made all of this possible. However, they wouldn’t refuse some nights with each other, cuddling like two teenagers sharing their first relationship. Hina had been facing their endless admiration for years, and used to be bothered by those gestures when she was younger…but now she would enjoy the sight.
Izuku’s head would unconsciously put his head on the blond’s shoulder, being welcomed by comforting hands around him and bringing him closer.
“Did you know about that ?” Katsuki whispered to the omega’s ears, spreading chills to the other.
The only hint of answer the blond had was an exchanged gaze between his daughter and husband, confirming his doubts. He should’ve known better what was expecting him, mainly with a basic question like this one…but the alpha was still surprised to be the last one to know.
“About that…I knew Hana was planning something and we had a serious conversation that night. As stubborn as she is, almost like she had your genes, the accident happened because she decided otherwise. I promise I was against it and still am now because she nearly died, but she reunited us in our fate somehow. I also should probably thank her for helping to make the first move…” he explained like nothing happened, staring at the pale gaze on the blond’s blinking face.
“I see and when did you plan to tell me? To my knowledge, I was also concerned in this case because I saved her life. I thought you promised to not lie in your vows but your pretty eyes seem to hide a lot of truth. Is there anything else I need to know ?” His callous hands left the scarred one and met the surprised gazes on their faces.
At first sight, it was like they were waiting to see his reaction because it was a secret they’d kept for too long. The blond took the cover away, ignoring his husband’s comment and Hina’s chuckles in the background.
Lost in his thoughts, a familiar warmth stopped him in his current, forcing him to turn around to get a plan for the situation. He was obviously in disfavor, but a part of him was still reassured to see that all those times he had fantasized about a life with this stranger who had caught his attention, had become a reality. There were good sides and bad sides, but their corner smile could erase any worries that had crossed his mind before.
“Kacchan, come back-” his voice tried to stop him but his laugh betrayed his intention. “I swear, we were planning on telling when you were ready, it’s not a big deal, come on…”
“Sure, when I’ll be 90 and you’ll laugh about my misery,” he objected. “I’ll be asleep if you’re looking for me unless you’re planning something against me again and I’m not informed.”
Izuku sighed, realizing how Hina and he had gone too far. Katsuki was right, they should’ve considered his feelings and confessed earlier. The truth is…Izuku planned to have a heart talk and explain everything, but he simply forgot. Now he was facing a fourth child who would take refuge in their common room while sulking.
A part of him felt hurt at the idea that his mate’s trust was broken because of this one secret…it had never been a part of his plan, especially when Katsuki made him discover how it was to be truly loved. Maybe the omega should forgive himself in a better way than words, and the twins could spend tomorrow night with their grandparents. Knowing the blond, it would be the kind of reaction he could have, but Katsuki wasn’t mad.
Izuku’s eyes caught the jade eyes, looking at him with worry. Hina was still the tiny newborn he held in his arms in the labor room, and turned out to be the prettiest woman.
His admiration for the person this strong person became was beyond words, for his devotion and love came from the heart. This feeling was shared by Katsuki more than once, and the young woman knew how much she was supported in each of her choices, even the most decisive ones.
“He needs time, you were mad at me the first time, remember ?” She confessed, resting her head against the omega’s shoulder. She might be an adult but sometimes she was still the small pup who nearly lost her dad that day due to her stupidity.
“I’ll talk to him,” assured Izuku. “I just hope the twins won’t be like you used to be as a child, because I’m not sure I’ll handle them.”
Today, he could project himself into a comforting future with his wonderful daughter, caring mate, and husband, followed by the amazing twins he got from their long relationship. Maybe what happened that day at the swimming pool was traumatizing, but they worked on it in therapy and today it led them to this happiness.
Izuku wouldn’t change anything about what happened after he got this date with Katsuki. If only his younger self knew the journey that was expecting him…
