Bookmark Notes:
The only man in front of him not tense with the effort of comprehension is Mister Hickey. He does not feign one jot of interest in arithmetic, but Irving suspects he is feigning a lack of ability to engage with these basic sums. He clearly has a shrewd mind. He asks a lot of questions. For the theological ones, Irving did not much like their bent.
