What do they have that I don't

Summary:

Hugo Strange reads about the latest fight between Joker and Batman, and feelings of despair rises within him.

Notes:

I was inspired to write some BatStrange after watching a video on YouTube about underrated Batman villains, and I thought a pairing like this just writes itself, then I noticed there wasn't that much, so I thought "maybe I can at least get the ball rolling."

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Dr. Hugo Strange was often the villain ignored by Batman, especially compared to the more colorful and larger than life villains.

One night, Hugo was in his home after his usual experiments at Arkham Asylum, when he noticed the newspaper by his door, he picked it up and saw the headline.

“BATMAN DEFEATS JOKER AGAIN!”

He tried to read the article, but had trouble through the tears, he crumpled the newspaper and threw it aside.

“If it isn’t Joker, it’s Penguin, if it isn’t Penguin, it’s that annoying egotistical Riddler or some other villain.”

Hugo let out a scream, as he dug his fingers into his head.

“It’s not fair, I fought him before he fought that stupid clown, I even know who Batman really is.”

He fell onto the floor and cried.

“What do they have that I don’t? I’m as much of a threat to him, why doesn’t he fight me?”

He turned and looked at the night sky and saw the bat signal silhouetted on the clouds.

“Why doesn’t he notice me like he notices them?”

He decided to walk to his bed, and held the cape he stole from Batman.

"One day, you'll notice me again Bruce, and maybe you'll finally see I'm the one meant for you."

Notes:

This isn't canon to the Seahorse Blood saga, but that might be something I'll do down the line and a new series I'm working on (Maybe.)

This also isn't canon to "My Beautiful Robyn."
